http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/694581/Can-Wii-Be-A-Primary-Gaming-System.html

No.

Even as a Nintendo fanboy, I personally feel that the Wii isnt an appropreate primary gaming system for the hardcore gamer. Iblogged (http://www.gamespot.com/users/mrjam0/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25559618)a similar topic sometime ago about how Wii only owners complain about certain third party titles not coming to Wii (RE5 was a big debate), and the universal crave for the next installment in a major Nintendo franchise. Even these gamers feel that their system is seemingly inadiquete. And for this, I purchased both of the other two consoles.

"Wii is just too different."In the linked topic above, former NintendoPower managing editor,Scott Pelland, listed some well recievedthird party titles such as: No More Heroes, Boom Blox, Tiger Woods, and Guitar Hero World Tour. " Games like Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart. The only problem about these titles is that with the exception of NMH and Zelda, most of these games arent exactly "hardcore". They're more like what Reggie likes to call "bridge games". Games that can be appreciate by both thehardcore and the casual. I'll admit to using the word problem too loosely asthat really isnt an issue, but it is a turn off to a lot of gamers. But back to themain point; one of my reasons for thinking that Wii can't really be usedas a primary system for more experienced players is that we, having played games for mostlikely well overa decade, have matured with the indusrty. As a result, we would much prefer titles that have evolved into something deeper, more engaging than games of old. Metal Gear Solid 4, Mass Effect, Fallout 3,Call of Duty... these are just a few examples of the sophisication that has matured and evolved with us over the past 10 years. Wii games just dont offer that experience, and compared to the aformentioned titles, its impossible. It's not just the violence and the gore, its the dynamics and the multi-leveled game design that goes into it.As of right now, Wii's library offers little of that. Its overwhelming casual appeal has forced their marketingto skew more into that direction to increase revenue. As a result, casualized games have flooded the shelves, greatly tippingthe ratio in their favor.

I've grown to appreciate some of the games on Wii (owning as much Wii games as 360, andmore than my PS3), and looking on the horizon, games likeThe Conduit are highly anticipated. So there seems to be a shift back to what Nintendo's original motto was: "games for EVERYONE." But as of right now, there just isnt enough. The way i look at Wii right now is that its an awesome stand-by system, not so much a great primary one.

I have all the systems, and out of all of them I play the wii the most. The one I play the least is the 360 because it mainly has shooters and nerd games, so that leaves me only a few shooters like halo. The PS3 I play about once a week because it at least has more variety in games. Wii I play the most because.....its games are addicting and each have variety so it doesn't feel like i'm playing the same game over again everytime.

I am a longtime poster here, and I have all the system's since launch.

Nintendo took last year off after they released SSBB, and since they make the best games, that really drove me to playing 360/PS3 more.

I play the Wii less than I did my GC last gen, it's nuts.

EVERY HARDCORE Nintendo fan (You know the type, they had a N64 and refused to by a PSOne, had a GC and refused to buy a PS2/Xbox) that I personally know has bought a Wii at launch.

They loved their Wii, whenever ANYONE came over, always demonstrated something new about the Wii.

Well, all of them have now bought a PS3, 360, or upgraded their PC. They were fine with just a GC last gen, and an N64 the gen before.

If you ask them WHY? Oh, they say all kinds of things, like they still love Nintendo, they needed a BluRay player, or that they just want to play exclusives, but the NINTENDO Diehard loyalist just in denial.

The truth is, they are hardcore gamers, and Nintendo isn't filling their appetite like they used to, and they as Nintendo fans have a VERY hard time accepting this.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME in my entire GAMING life that there IS NOT A SINGLE 1st PARTY Nintendo game that I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY, that I hype to all my friends. Nintendo is different.

This thread... my goodness! All it takes to be a primary system is for one to play it more often than the others. So yes, it IS physically possible for the Wii to be a primary gaming system. This thread is now over.

Also, just to mention, I didn't get the other two systems and my wii because i was getting bored with it, i got them so I could get any exclusives that would come out. The one I'm still the most happy with getting is the wii.

The Wii is my most played console. So I'd say it was my primary one out of the 360, Wii, and PS3.

I covered that in my post, but you have a PS2 to keep your Wii Company, so you aren't as extreme as you would like to believe.

It takes A LOT of work, or they may just be new NONGamers...

It takes work to enjoy a video game platform? Are you kidding me? We aren't talking about the 3DO here, this is a big name system with plenty of games. The amount of sheer unneccesary elitism it takes to make the complaint that enjoying the Wii takes work is beyond me.

well of course TECHNICALLY (im not really yelling) it can be. hell, the majority of wii consumors only own a Wii. but im talking about us more experienced gamers. like solidTy said, a lot of love and dedication. mike 885 said that he plays the wii more, and that's good for him. i wish i could be satisfied by just the wii. but unfortunately im not. and most gamers can agree.

You are rocking out on a PC and a 360, so you wouldn't be the person that could defend that point.

I want to hear from a Wii only gamer, on these boards. Those are the hardcore.

Really now? If anything I have more experience then. I enjoyed de Blob on the Wii more than Grears of War, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and even Crysis. Yes, I said it. I enjoyed de Blob more than Crysis. I guess that means I'm killing gaming, right?

You just need to find the right games dude. Most people say there are no games on it, but when you look you can find about at the least 30 exclusives the other two systems don't have, mainly because few people have heard of them or they're just really old.

The Wii is my primary gaming system and I'm doing fine. I only had a PS2 last gen, and I played that significantly less, actually. So I don't know if it's because I've been playing Wii games AND Gamecube games, but I don't really see myself getting another console anytime soon. If I buy another console it'll be a PS3, if the price ever drops, but then there's still only four games I want for it.

That's kinda how it is for me except price for the systems wasn't a problem, and it was more than just 4, like about 10.

It had it's flaws, that's for sure. But I thought it was a lot of fun and had a great personality. It made me want another Jet Set game

nostalgia.

Are you serious? Are you claiming that the only reason I liked de blob was because of nostalgia? :| Now, you are just trolling.

easy easy. i ment the name jet set gives me nostalgia. plus, theres nothing wrong with playing a game for nostalgia.

[QUOTE="mrjam0"] whoa slow down there man. you directing that comment to the wrong person. my library of wii games consist of: pikmin madworld galaxy (my personal fav along with MGS4) zack and wiki NMH okami SSBB metroid prime Zelda Wii fit Mk wii and scarface those are just the ones that i kept. dont worry, i know what im talking about unlike those who mindlessly bash on wii. i just tend to invest more time in my other consoles.mrjam0

No I meant about how you said you wish you could enjoy your wii more, so i was saying how you just need the right games and a lot of people to play them with you.

you make a good point there. most of my friends r 360 and ps3 fanboys. so im either on live or psn. mostly live

ya, exactly, if most of your friends had wiis also and had the right games and stuff, they'd probably be sending you messages all the time and stuff and you'd be playing tons of games online.

I want to hear from a Wii only gamer, on these boards. Those are the hardcore.

SolidTy

The only consoles I own (not just current gen) are wii and GBA SP. I have a PSone at my parent's house, but I haven't lived there in 4 years. My old fat ps2 broke a few years ago, and my xbox broke in the beginning of this year, and I haven't replaced either. I play games about 2 hours average on a weekday, and about a total of 7 hours total over an average weekend. I'd play more, but I'm too busy with school. I am totally satisfied with my wii. I currently own more games than I have time to beat (check my "now playing" games list). There are tons of wii games that I still want to buy as well. I'm having a lot of fun playing wii. Of course I would like another console (who wouldn't?!) but the wii is keeping my gaming needs fully satisfied. Wii is my only system and its a blast. I prefer the wii's unique library and nintendo's first party titles, making wii a good primary system for my tastes.

The Wii used to be my primary system....But I play all three so much as of late that I don't really think I have one anymore.

I agree with you too. Some of my favorite games this gen consist of oddball titles like Endless Ocean, Blastworks, Wario-Ware and Boom Blocks, the likes of which I just don't see on other systems.

Yes, as long as you have the exact taste that fits all the better games the Wii offers.

At it's current state, for me no.

But if they had some games that appealed to me come out for the system then sure, why not.

Most notably, looking forward to the FF game.
