I don't know about Mass Effect. MS published it and when you publish a title you usually retain the rights to it, not the author. As business savy as MS is, I don't know why they'd blunder on major move like that.

I think EA purchased Bio-Ware/Pandemic for Pandemic's library, Bio-Ware's MMO game and because Bio-Ware has a record for making great RPGs, an area that EA is weak in.
