First they never named any new console 2 anything.
Second, the Dreamcast and Shenmue were total disasters for the company that never really rated up to anything. Except of course for people on internet gaming forums that can't stop praising them and that for some reason seem think they know what companies should be doing.
It's easy to understand why SEGA doesn't want to know nothing about them.
I can understand no Dreamcast 2, but no Shenmue 3 wtf :cry:SolidGame_basic
As much as I hate to say I can understand no Shenmue 3. The sales just didn't justify the amount of money put into the game even though the series is awesome. I still want a new Shenmue and Jet Grind Radio though too bad they will never happen.
The Shenmue series have some of the best storytelling you will ever see in a videogame. Then i see ppl hype games like MGS4, which in my opinion doesn't have as great a story as Shenmue. The thing with Shenmue is that there are characters that you come to love and care about . The story maybe a bit cliched but the way its presented as well is what also makes it so great, it feels like a real life story, a grounded story which grips the player playing the game more so than the critically- acclaimed MGS4.

I have, and I agree that Shenmue does a better story telling job. Even though I'd give MGS4 a 10, Shenmue and Shenmue 2 both also deserve it.
Shenmue is my favorite game of all time and to know that Sega will likely never make number 3 too finish up seriously makes me sad. I remeber after beating Shenmue 2 like 4 years ago I manically looked for any evidence that Shenmue 3 was being made. Rumors would surface but they'd always end up dead where they began. Shenmue fans, including myself, anxiously await every E3 and every TGS hoping that there is even a hint that they will be making the third and final installment but its the same every year. I am still hopeful though; even if I have to wait to play it on XBOX 1080 or Dreamcast 2 in like 20 years, I will wait patiently to find out what happened after the cave scene.
Oh and the fact that Dreamcast 2 isn't being made really pisses me off too.
[QUOTE="-DrRobotnik-"]Then they should sell off the Shenmue licence to someone who does want to make it!!PandaBear86
EA?
Or Acti-Blizzard.

yea lol, sounds like he hasn't and has just been listening to other peoples opionshaha, you guys make me laugh im not saying MGS4 has a bad story it probably does has the best storytelling in the industry BUT in my opinion Shenmue has a better story because i really care about each character and that its believable, in the MGS games theres alot of characters i could care less about. For e.g. Fatman in MGS2

The story and plot in MGS is so over the top and ridiculous. the characters are interesting without a doubt, but the plot doesn't make one granulatory ounce of sense. It's just so...out there, so unbelievable that it's impossible to be taken seriously. And the way it's told? Ugh, MGS2 was the worst. Suddenly, in the last hour of the game, you're absolutely FLOODED with what info in the worst method possible.
Sure, Shenmue cost money, but I'd rather have 1 good Shemue game, than 50 million different HORRIBLE scoring, HORRIBLE selling Sonic games. They need to get that through their head. At least shenmue would do some good for their reputation.BlueTimber
Yeah, Sega sucks now. It's funny; I never got into Sega or their games (despite having a Genesis and Game Gear) until the Dreamcast, but that system really opened my eyes to how talented they are (and before people start screaming about the Saturn, yes, I know it had a bunch of amazing stuff too), and within one generation, they've done all they could to completely destroy my newfound admiration for them. I wanted to like Sonic for the 360, but it was so badly put together that it was unplayable at certain points, and it seems that they're trying to go the Nintendo/Mario route by putting Sonic in at least one game in every conceivable genre, most of which are horrible. At least the majority of Mario games are well-made, but this new Sega seems to not even really care about quality control.
It's a shame, because with the Dreamcast, Sega showed a lot of dedication towards developing/publishing unique and niche games that you didn't see anywhere else in gaming, and now they're just a watered-down version of Nintendo, mass-producing titles from their mascot and ignoring hardcore gamers everywhere. Shenmue 3 would easily be my most anticipated game of (at least) the last few years, but unfortunately the combination of how overly expensive the first two were (relative to what they grossed) and the fact that Sega is under new ownership essentially means there's no chance in hell I'll ever see my beloved series end.
Then they should sell off the Shenmue licence to someone who does want to make it!!-DrRobotnik-
They should sell it to Bethesda so that they can dumb it down! who cares? Dumb down = more profit! To hell with true quality!
They spent so much making the first 2 games that although the sales were good it didnt recoup what they spent $70m it cost them.
So I would be happy if they used the same engine as the first 2 games but just polished the graphics etc, just so I can find out what happens and how the story ends.
Only that sales *weren't* good. Nor of the game nor of the Dreamcast itself. When the game was released they needed every Dreamcast owner to buy the game two times in order to meet sales expecations. Something that of course was just plain out of the question. They spent so much making the first 2 games that although the sales were good it didnt recoup what they spent $70m it cost them.

They actually already had enough material developed to release at least another Shenmue game. Yet they choose to rather not make the wound any bigger.
The already cancelled Shenmue Online was actually being made with the leftovers from the Shenmue production.
So if they didn't made another game when they already had most of the stuff done, what makes you think they would do one now?

Well, I think a lot of people who want it, understand that if they haven't done anything with it yet, its unlikely they will, but theres nothing wrong with putting a little bit of hope into it. Like how they said "No" for seaman 2 but "no plans" for shenmue 3, its the little things that hope can cling onto.

If SEGA tought the Shenmue franchise was profitable to them at all. We would already had Shenmue IV.
Ryu Ga Gotoku came out in 2005 and it's already on it's third installment. With a fourth one already in production. Whereas Shenmue is dead franchise, and there it will remain.
And this is besides the fact that Ryu Ga Gotoku is better than what Shenmue ever hoped to be.
The simple answer:
Sega doesn't want to lose money on a console or game they have no chance at turning a profit with.
Sega took a HUGE bath with the original Shenmue, it cost over 70million to make and would have required every Dreamcast over to buy it twice in order for them to breakeven, and considering only broke 1.2 million copies it didn't come close.
The second one I cannot imagine did all that much better,
Its a great franchise that gamers simply do not support enough on mass to justify the creation of a sequel.
[QUOTE="DrCoCoPiMp"]Dreamcast was the dam best console ever, DC2 wud've raped all.... too bad for you SegacrunchUK
i know it's disgusting... best console seems to mean worst sales these days
seriously playing shenmue was like playing a really really really great film. they should bring it back
Exactly you could enjoy the game if you were just watching someone play.[QUOTE="110million"]It's simple common sense really.Well, I think a lot of people who want it, understand that if they haven't done anything with it yet, its unlikely they will, but theres nothing wrong with putting a little bit of hope into it. That hurts... not knowing Japanese, I've only played the first Ryu Ga Gotoku, and I did find it to be quite amazing, the second one will be a day one purchase, but it would have to be quite a bit better then the first to make it better then shenmue. I hope Kenzan eventually makes it here too, but as long as they release the third one here eventually, I'll still be happy.
I know what you mean though, I'll still maintain a small bit of hope, for eventual Shenmue sequel, I don't really mind in what format, but I would like to know how it ends, it wasn't like novel quality story, but stopping a story half way is still sort of irritating.
at the very least i want a sonic adventure 3 game, instead of these half-a$$ed wannabesULTIMATEZWARRIO
Well, it seems "Sonic Unleased" is a new Sonic Adventure game. In Japan it is called "Sonic World Adventure" I can't wait for the game.
