As you will see(hopefully) in LBP2, the creation experience and ability to create full games, combining as many genres as possible into one full featured game through LBP's Play, Create, Share mantra. I have reason to believe that a new genre of Play, Create, Share is probably around the corner. Who agrees?

It's not a genre, it's a mantra. Roblox, is a building game, SSBB is a fighting game, LBP is a platformer, Modnation is a racer, and so on. "Play Create and Share" is a marketing tagline. Copyrighted. You can't copyright a genre.

I've been saying that when people said that Little Big Planet 2 will win Platformer of the year. I have been saying Little Big Planet 2 isn't a Platformer since you can create SHMUPs, RPGs, Top down racers, and other genres. Not just levels for a platformer.

Yeah, it's a building game like Roblox. But "Play, Create, Share" is not a genre.

It's hardly new. I remember doing it as far back as Stunts and The Incredible Machine. Wasn't integrated though, you'd have to go out of your way, but still. More recently, but still quite old, Trackmania springs to mind. That had an integrated sharing mechanism. There are probably a lot more games I'm forgetting.

So most PC games belong to a new genre now?

I would agree except this has been happening for years. There is nothing new about it.

Think PC mods.

I agree with this. A platform for games is a different genre all together.

Also to first poster, I didn't mean "Play, Create, Share" has to be the name of the genre, but now that an uprising of games like LBP, Modnation and LBP2 are a foot I believe, the genre of Expanding your game by creating custon levels, and stylesand sharing it with the world, should be considered a genre.

Sure there's a ton of them, but they're not as unique as LBP2 in terms of how free you are to create these things(assuming it lives up to that promise). Heck Toy Story 3 will have a Toybox mode... Doesn't mean I am saying that should be considered a new genre.

PC mods have always and still have tons more flexibility than LBP 1 or 2 will ever hope to accomplish. As far as consoles go, I'll give you that, but people have been creating entire games from the toolkits that PC developers have been providing for at least a decade.

LBP is a platformer, .Willy105

Heres the thing.. LBP is a platformer yes.. But LBP2...eh.. I dont really think so. I mean if you can build and play an RTS or a 3D racing game.. then I really wouldnt call it just a platformer anymore

=\ User generated content. It is not a genre.
