Intellectual Property[QUOTE="KingTuttle"][QUOTE="angryfodder"]Sorry, but what does IP stand for in gaming terms? I'm hearing it used more and more these days.angryfodder
I'm still a bit in the dark....why the term IP? Why not just "game"
But if we are talking about old/dead games that i'd like to see come back, probably Road rash. I'm think moto GT graphics and handling on cool road stages and baseball bats
It's easier to classify a bunch of games together...for instance the Metal Gear IP or the Mario IP etc. It's easier than saying Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2, Super Mario Brothers 3, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy..etc. But it can define 1 game too so it's not a rule...I don't know man it's an industry term.Intellectual Property[QUOTE="KingTuttle"][QUOTE="angryfodder"]Sorry, but what does IP stand for in gaming terms? This link explains Intellectual PropertiesIt is from Wikipedia but it still explains it better then I ever could.
It's easy to see the Fable style in this game don't you think? Or should I say...it's easy to see DK style in Fable games.Dungeon Keeper.

Something I'm angry about is these awesome franchises being done on the PSP and not the Console. I love Syphon Filter and Parasite Eve but bring em back to the Console.Antikyth3raI'm thinking that some of my old time favorites would be better off being made on either hand helds or as downloadable games for Arcade so they can retain some of their original spirit...but I know what you mean.
DK is the pantheon room strategy. We want a sequel worthy of it's omnicoolness!clembo1990Does Molyneux still own the IP? I would freak out with joy if he made a sequel but Im sure he has moved on and forgotten about his masterpiece...
*EDIT*
It appears EA own the IP for DK...which means it will never see a true sequel. However, some Chinese company wants to use the IP for a freakin MMORPG....good grief.
oh i know what joint ops was :) played pretty much every novalogic title since they started making games. check out the Wiki for Angel Falls. 200 players per online match. Massive maps. Land / Air / Sea vehicles. 3picuri3
Thanks for the link. Angel Falls has some potential after all. I am disapointed it will be multi-platform but I guess I don't mind so long as the PC version gets a fair amount of attention.

A game is too generic that can cover anything from video games to board games, to games play on T.V. etc, etc, etc, and it also doesn't have ownership properties. Ie, a game can be owned and played by anyone. A game of tag can't be "owned" because it's so generic and played just about by every kid that no one can claim a right on it.
But an "Intellectual Property" is different. It signify a company, or even a person has claimed all the rights and benefits from that property, he, she or it owns it. If you want to use it, you have to pay some form of indemity (usually money) for the rights to use it. I.e. video games are made by companies, they spend millions in producing it, making it and promoting it. Once made, it belongs to no one but the company. If gamers wants to play it, they must pay an "indemity" of $50-$60 for the "rights" to play it on their consoles or PC. Thus, said company can claim the game as its "Intellectual Property" because they own the rights to the game.
