They don't over score every game. but generally they do over rate compared to the consensus. The discrepancy can't be written off as GS just being a "forgiving site", at about the same rate that they over score 360 exclusives they underscore PS3 exclusives. Its not a night-and-day difference but it is there.skektek

Except, on average, GameSpot underscores both 360 and PS3 exclusives.

Well there were some good games and some weren't up to par with the rest of the list in my opinion, but overall yeah it was a good move by Microsoft to get Rare on its side. Perfect Dark might of gotten a good score here on gamespot, but it was just average in my opinion and the rest were above average which were good for any xbox 360 owners. What I liked most was Kameo for this gen by Rare.-DarthMaul-

When we you guys fully understand why PDZ got a 9.0. It is becuase it was a LAUNCH GAME!!! And it had eceptional online and coop features. Yeah the story was a tad bland. But again It had great features right out of the box for a LAUNCH GAME PEOPLE!!! Oh and by the way some great graphics.

Most people never gave PDZ a chance. They either never played it, or they gave up on the game immediately.

The story was bizarre, but the missions themselves were awesome.  If you haven't played them on the harder difficulty levels, you are really missing out.  It isn't just harder difficulty, but more full and interesting mission objectives.

Still not as great as their Golden Age (N64 days), but close. Perfect Dark Zero was seriously overrated though.

Why are people in this thread accepting this as "ownage"?

Averaging their review scores per generation is very misleading.  Sure, they put out tons of crap in the 8/16 bit era.. but they also put out a handful of games that obliterate anything they've done in the last two gens.. and that's what matters.

We shouldn't be looking at their overall average but rather at their best games per generation - and to a lesser extent, the number of good games.  Their best games on the SNes and N64 are astounding.  They are excellent show cases of game design.  ON the last gen systems and the 360?  they are just good(or even great) games.. they aren't nearly as memorable, groundbreaking, revolutionary, or masterfully designed.  That's why alot of people have a problem with rare recently, they used to poop magic!  some of the best games of their respective generations.  Not so much anymore.

ALso.. you're using gamerankings for nes and snes games?  IN some of those games cases there are only 1 or 2 reviews.. that's hardly convincing evidence of the quality of those games. What makes those review scores so reliable that you can use them to compare with current games(did people even review games properly back then?)?  ANd, haven't we already accepted a long time ago on system wars that scores don't equal a better game. Some of those games are better then those scores imply(or worse in some cases).

With all of that said.. i certainly do not agree with people who think rare is a poor developer.  There games this gen have been pretty good, and imo are a step up from last generation.  PD0 is nothing special, but viva piniata and kameo are both unique games.  They are good developers, they just aren't crapping magic like they used to.

Agreed. All those scores prove is that it is hard to quantify a great game. Rare is still a good developer but that brief flash of 'magic' they had during their twilight N64 days has burned out :(

what's funny is that i completly agree with you, however according to system wars mentality scores are the only thing that matter specially gamerankings (even though i prefer metacritic) so really i'm just using system wars mentality against itself

People have you ever stopped and thought. How it was much easier to say hey these games are GREAT on N64. It's becuase the N64 had only a hand full of good games and yeah mostly RARE!!!. It was becuase the N64 was mostly overshadowed by the greatness of the PS1 both in sales and great games. So it's so much easier for most of you to think so foundly of RARE back then becuase there was not nearly as much else to look at compared to PS1.

Same thing for this gen with RARE. There games are great but it's hardser to look at them becuase WE ALL KNOW THE 360 IS A GREAT GAME PRODUCING MONSTER.

Rare is a terrible developer. Banjo only got an 8.5 because it was scored by the worst reviewer on this site, it's inferior garbage jst like Perfect Dark Zero

Rare's only success this gen has been Viva Pinata. A quality sim that is too complicated for the young audience it is aimed at and too cutesy for the teenage boys who buy 360's.

I wouldnt say they are a terrible developer but I would say they have fallen from greatness this gen. There only really good game is Banjo and thats not saying much seeing as it departed from the formula that made the original banjo loved.

It boggles my mind:? When people say they have fallen? Since when has solid AA's and an AAA been bad:roll: Not to mention a whole lot of people really liked Kameo a solid high AA. Go figure?

The people that dont let reviewers cloud there minds If you have played PD0 you would realize that that game didnt deserve AAA and alot of rare games just dont meet the quality and greatness they had with nintendo.

i have to disagree you have to admit that the quality has dropped dramatically since they left nintendo compare perfect dark zero to goldeneye and perfect dark 64 compare the new banjo to the previous two they've lost much of their magic IMO .. i don't find the new banjo fun at all .. played the XBLA original and it's a million times better, and way more fun

Correct. Although I think we need to be looking at this from a financial standpoint. Now, I could be off slightly but I do believe Nintendo sold Rare to Microsoft for about a 13.4million-gazillion dollars. So far, every single Rare game has flopped hard sales wise. Banjo seems to be the only one getting any traction whatsoever. Let's face it. Nintendo have been laughing for about 7 years now.

PD Zero was GIVEN AWAY. Microsoft held some big promo event in Australia and everyone who attending (about 50,000 people) were GIVEN a copy of the game. It was in bargin bins within 6 months of launch. You cannot trade it into Gamestop/EB stores because they know it's value is nothing. Similar story with Kameo. Now, what part of that involves Microsoft recooping ANY of the money they splashed out to acquire Rare. It was a blank cheque and Nintendo wrote the biggest number they could imagine on it.

50.000 copies is a long way from 1 million, it doesn't matter if the game was in the bargain bins 6 months after launch, even bargain bin deals generate income.

and you still didn't explain viva pinata

Sure, theyre not too shabby, but lets be honest. Do theyre recent titles really compare to what they used to put outÉ (those És would be question marks, my keyboard is playing games with me)

Just look back at the N64 days: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie (TRUE platformers, unlike nuts and bolts) Jet Force Gemini, Conkers Bad Fur Day.

If you ask me they have yet to put out a game that puts them back in the top spots of game developers where they used to be.

Give me Perfect Dark 2 or Jet Force Gemini 2 and make them as great as they were back then.

PDZ 9.0 AAA launch game great game great graphics great coop and online play for a launch game.

PDZ 2 is on it's way and It will most defiantly bring the name back to true glory.

Kameo 8.7 AA Great game with great graphics for an early launch game.

Viva Pinata 1 8.3 2 8.5 Both have been great games and a good new franchise.

Banjo Nuts & Bolts 8.5 AA Taken chances took the franchise in a new direction and it has payed off great game with SPECTACULAR GRAPHICS. Oh and only $39.99 and a free copy of Banjo Kazooie in HD:shock:. Yeah don't get any better. Thanks Rare!!!

With speculation of a new Killer Instinct. WOW yeah and among others and this is even referenced in Banjo.

Bottum line is MS is kicking *** and taking names. And only a true blind fanboy would turn there nose to MS and Rare. By the way the new Live update is PHENOMINAL only haters would say other wise.

Rare is BACK and guess what MS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Them.

lol ms adverticement

PD Zero was GIVEN AWAY. Microsoft held some big promo event in Australia and everyone who attending (about 50,000 people) were GIVEN a copy of the game. It was in bargin bins within 6 months of launch. You cannot trade it into Gamestop/EB stores because they know it's value is nothing. Similar story with Kameo. Now, what part of that involves Microsoft recooping ANY of the money they splashed out to acquire Rare. It was a blank cheque and Nintendo wrote the biggest number they could imagine on it.RABicle

Forgive me but I do not think any of us should take a word of yours as any credit once so ever.

Hello since when has any launch game 2-3 years later been worth SQUAT at an EB or Gamestop. Geeezzzzz:?
