or so it seems
now get your ass to work and release some good games.

Perhaps. If being a shell of your fomer self counts as being "alive." :P There could be a chance they'll release must have software for Natal but I'm not counting on it.
Rare has never been more alive creating what.1 AAA and 4 AA's this gen and that puts them in a league that only a handful of other devs that can boast the same. :P
Anyway I love what they are saying ( except I want a new Conker !! ) and can't wait until the veil is lifted at E3. :D

I'm old enough to Remember when Rare made good games. Nobody would even know or care about Rare these days if they weren't one of the few 360 first party developers.

Yeah Rare have made some awesome games this gen, but I'm hoping for something new at E3. Viva Pinata was a really good game.RavensmashIt sure was a great game and so wasn't Kameo. Their games this gen are actually better than anything they've done previously. People got to get off the nostalgia wagon stat.
People need to get over this. Yes Rare on the N64 was the most ridiculously amazing run of games ever. That doesn't mean their (comparitively) fewer and less good games are automatically junk! Banjo Kameo and the two Viva games are awesome. Not "defining game of the platform" good, like Banjo Kazooie or Perfect Dark, but still really good!I'm old enough to Remember when Rare made good games. Nobody would even know or care about Rare these days if they weren't one of the few 360 first party developers.

Still pumping out lots of great games. 1 AAA and 4AA this gen.[QUOTE="SilentlyMad"][QUOTE="skektek"]

I don't know... While I do love their older games from Snake, Rattle and Roll to Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata II is perhaps their single game I've enjoyed the most. I think it would be denial for me to jump on the "ZOMG TRASH DEVELOPER NOT NEERLY AS GUD AS THEY WUR!!!" like is popular these days. Are their games as influential, defining, and popular? Heck no, and I'd be in denial not to admit that. But personally, I don't find their new offerings worse.[QUOTE="skektek"]

Me thinks him not the one in denial. :P :) a lot of these comments (not saying thats the case here) come from those that have never even played a Rare title this gen and just generally hate MS.I have been disappointed with Rare. I think Kameo is a good game and Perfect Dark Zero is fun but they don't release enough titles and spend too much time on games marketed towards kids. I would like to see Perfect Dark 2 or a new Conker game or even a new platformer something the 360 really needs. I have given up on Rare.

Indeed good sir as one needs to completely ignore the facts of this gen Rare... 1 AAA & 4 AA games and yet the dev accomplishing that is unworthy. :?[QUOTE="skektek"]

As I said before; many, many, many devs would be ecstatic with those numbers. :)

Never been more alive? did you miss the Nintendo 64? Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Conkers Bad Fur Day etc, and most of those were AAA remember.Rare has never been more alive creating what.1 AAA and 4 AA's this gen and that puts them in a league that only a handful of other devs that can boast the same. :P

Problem with Rare is all the good developers have left, sure they've had 1 AAA and 4 AA games this gen but to suggest current Rare is better than or equal too N64 Rare is ridiculous.
Banjo Kazooie & Banjo Tooie >>>>>>>>>>>>> Banjo N&B
Goldeneye/Perfect Dark >>>>>>>>>>>> Perfect Dark Zero
Jet Force Gemini/Conker >>>>>>>>> Kameo
I dont even consider Viva Pinata a real game, more like a weird farmville /pokemon fail crossover. Pinata is simply boring by Rares standards. Plus you couldnt say its better than other Rare games like Blast Corps, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong 64 & Killer Instinct
Dont get me wrong, i am a massive fan of Rare and have all their games up to and including their 360 releases but with the staff loses they've had over the years, their best work is clearly behind them. The fact they're working on gimmicky natal games (lets face it motion control games are gimmicks, especially ones without controllers like natal) instead of sequals to proven franchises or at least a proper Banjo game (360 could do with some platformers) says to me they arent any closer to recapturing that Rare magic from the Nintendo days.

Yeah but people call them trash when they are still better than most studios imo. Honestly, name one other studio that has as many hits in as short a time as N64 Rare? They were a freak of nature that gen :DAfter reading the article its probably a good thing they leave their legacy behind them and not reboot old ip's.
Must be the only company in the world that would rather screw around with winning formula (Banjo Kazooie, which many considered better than Mario 64, myself included) by adding some kind of gimmick to it (Nuts & Bolts which as a platformer fails when compared to Mario Galaxy or even Ratchet & clank for that matter) than stick to a winning formula and please its fan base.
I think they wont touch old iP's because they wont be able to match the awesomeness that was mid 90's Rare
My guess is they'll release Perfect Dark 2 as an on rails light gun game for natal (or would that be imaginary finger gun game)and all we can do is watch them kill another franchise, you'll see :P

Me thinks him not the one in denial. :P :) a lot of these comments (not saying thats the case here) come from those that have never even played a Rare title this gen and just generally hate MS. I agree. It seems 95% of the time someone is hating on Rare is a PS3 fan. Which makes no sense considering Rare was a Nintendo dev and now a MS one. I am not saying every case is just blind hate but it seems most of the time is just to hate on MS from a Sony fan.[QUOTE="skektek"]

Me thinks him not the one in denial. :P In comparison to old Rare, New Rare is nothingOut of their 4 real xbox360 games, only one was AAA
Their last 3 games were arcade games and their unannounced game got canned in favor of a Natal game
Their designers keep on leaving the studios, most of the orginial inhouse staff that made rare great has left.
Hell even Stevie Malpass left last year after he designed Nuts and Bolts, he may of not been one of their best designers but he was one of the good ones.
I love Rare, Rare is one of my favorite companies of all time, I follow them like a hawk, but they have fallen from heaven. Not to say new Rare is terrible, they are pretty good but still a shadow of who they once were.
I only hope Microsoft is backing Rare with some budget so this natal game can blow my mind

Then why were games like Kameo 2 , Conker Other Bad Day, and Perfect Dark 2 cancelled by Microsoft in favor of Natal development?
Here is one of MS's best developers and they haven't done jack this gen. I mean lets face it, the games they could be putting could blow away the ones that they have created. I mean come on, KI3 would murder Viva Pinata. I just don't understand what they are doing. :?

Because Natal is that important to MS's strategy, and what better studio within MS's limited stock has the ability to create those oh so cute, family friendly, grandma can play too, mass market, Nintendo Wiiesque party games? Rare. Sadly, it's a waste of an awesome resource. I hate Natal and it hasn't come out yet.[QUOTE="Snugenz"]

The people who are saying Rare lost their way are comparing Rare of today to Rare during n64 days. You are comparing Rare of today to your average dev. Rare used to one of the best. Now they are average.Oh and their AAA? PD0? Don't be bragging about that game. If a game's score is the final word then let's talk about how THPS3 is one of the elite/ supreme gaming masterpieces of all time. There is some margin for error and PD0 is firmly in it.
Rare is a joke now. They were Nintendo's bread and butter on the N64 (and did well on the SNES with Donkey Kong and Killer Instinct), but now they have pretty much dropped off of the face of the earth. The only games they put out are of the "eh, it's pretty good" variety, or occasionally the "ZOMGWTF this is a disgrace to the franchise!" variety (Perfect Dark Zero, Banjo's Nuts). It's pretty clear that very little if any of Rare's original talent still remains at the company, with most having long since departed for greener pastures. It's a shame, because they were once a titan of the industry. Now, they're a disgrace to their former reputation. One thing's for sure though-- Nintendo must have been laughing all the way to the bank when they sold Rare to Microsoft. MS thought they were buying the goose that laid golden eggs, but it turns out that it had already laid its last one on the N64. Nintendo did the smart thing, and MS did the impulsive thing. They seem to have had a bit of a problem with that, because they did the same thing with Silicon Knights and Too Human, and it turned out to be a massive festering turd of a game that almost no-one but the most dedicated of Xbots actually bothered with.Timstuff
When I first heard that Nintendo was selling Rare I was like WTF? Are you stupid? But in retrospect Nintendo must have seen the writing on the wall.
Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean their offerings this generation aren't as fantastic as those in the N64 days. Rare is still a quality developer, that are playing around with many new ideas, actually trying to push the industry forward, instead of just giving fanboys caught up in nostalgia what they think they want.

From the links I read, yes so far.I don't know where this myth came from that Rare made nothing but stellar AAA games back in the day. Rare always made on average "good" games, which they continue to do. They've had a few AAA titles, but that's not surprising considering they've made over 100.
Yeah. Microsoft used them to make Miis... err I mean Live Avatars, and now motion control games for Natal in response to Wii's 1st party motion control games. Very innovative indeed.Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean their offerings this generation aren't as fantastic as those in the N64 days.
