Rare urges core gamers to try Kinect News

I know I'll be trying it out since I plan on buying the 360 S Kinect bundle though I think I just may have the most fun watching others play the games. I'll decide just how good this thing is when I try it for myself. :P

Rare's Kinect development director Nick Burton has encouraged core gamers to try Microsoft's new controller technology rather than dismissing it out of hand.

"All I can say to the core is go and have a go. It doesn't even have to be necessarily Kinect Sports. Go and have a go on Kinect, period," Burton told Eurogamer in an interview published today.

Like Chris Lewis last week, Burton said Rare had expected a bit of negative feedback on Kinect when the wraps first came off, but said playing with it first hand would change people's minds.

"Until people play Kinect, and they play it for more than a couple of seconds, which is unfortunately practically what you get in the trade shows... But you know hardly anybody's getting a chance to play it," he said.

"It's one of those things you've got to have what I call your Kinect moment, when you realise... And we see this, we saw it at gamescom and E3, people go, 'Oh, it's way better than I expected. It's way more high fidelity than I expected.'

"But when you're looking at a video on the internet and you're reading the write-ups, it's very difficult to get, well I think it's probably impossible to get that feeling."

Burton also said he believes that hardcore gamers will be all over it once the 10th November launch rolls around, whatever they may be saying to the contrary on forums - and he expects Kinect Sports to be a hotbed for them.

"You watch the Live leaderboards when these things come out," he said. "There will be people... We'll be there going, 'How the hell have they gone that fast?' or 'How have they got that big score?' That will be the hardcore doing that."

Don't want to see MS go 100 % that route but me thinks Nintendo is pretty pleased even though many core gamers aren't. :P

I would probably consider myself a 'core' gamer and I love my Wii. Muramasa: the demon blade, sin and punishment: star successor, no more heroes, and so on. I'll be snaggin metroid the other m soon too! I just use my gamecube controller whenever I can.

come september, I'll be getting my halo reach bundle. However, I don't think I'll ever purchase the kinect. Just as I won't be purchasing the move. both will be trash imo.

Sometimes the cards are kept closer to the vest then you think though sure, you may be correct but I just think Rare has got to have a couple of umm, core games they been working on.. I dunno, perhaps wishful thinking.

man i miss the old Rare. kameo was great but other then that they have been pretty awful. i doubt anything could get me to play kinect. i can't believe microsoft when from the hardcore system of choice to a joke over night. i will not be surprised if the kinect kills the 360 brand off entirely. if it does microsoft has only themselves to blame.

I don't know that they do have a couple non Kinect games to announce I'm sure hoping a bunch but even so, they have an interest in Kinect and their Kinect games being successful so Kenect & non Kinect games are not mutually exclusive for them where marketing is concerned.

The only thing Rare said was TRY IT before judging. Very sensible. I'm not surprised those comments are being met with hostility on these Sony boards.

What does he mean have a go?, it's not like it has core games and we're just dismissing them. There's not a single game made with the core in mind. It's just not designed for us. **** MS and Rare. They're talking donkey dick.

people are afraid that they will actually like it thats the problem. I am getting it for the Kinect Hub and using it as a entertainment device overall, gaming is an added plus. I know I i will like it because Im a tech type of guy and I love new things in the market.

Sorry, but I pefer to buy my things when their is tangible things I want, not Promises of stuff in the future. kinects entire strategy for Core gamers is to promise them support in the future.
