Rather than getting a 3DS or PSP NGP I think I'll just wait for the next iPhone.

Or maybe the one after that, but basically why bother getting either of these devices when it's pretty obvious that probably in the iPhone 6 at the very latest there will be a 3D screen, it is inevitable, and the iPhone already does everything else the other machines are touting perfectly well already, and more besides and more to come too (like using it as an NFC based credit card for example).

The only thing the iPhone doesn't do as well as these machines, and won't in the near future because it really can't by virtue of it's very nature and design, is obviously the fully dedicated gaming controls, but once they add haptic feedback into the device, which will surely come soon too, it's not going to be as big an issue any more and games like Dead Space on iPhone 4 already show us just how close it can get to a full-on console/portable experience even with it's touch screen only interface.

Nope, as cool as I guess the 3DS and PSP NGP are I just don't see them offering anything the iPhone doesn't already or won't in the near future and certainly within the lifetime of both the 3DS and PSP NGP anyway.

Why on Earth would Apple bother with an autostereoscopic screen? Who wants that on their smartphone?

The PSP2 outspecs the iPhone 5.

It's obvious it's coming to all these mobile devices in the near future, probably in the next iterations for many of them and at latest the one after that, and a few companies have already shown off models with the technology incorporate in them. Do you not keep up with the news?

the problem for me with both the 3DS and PSP2 is they are just to big to be truly portable and take with you everywhere. my iphone my not have the range of quality games that the DS has. but i have enough great games to suit my portable gaming needs and its ALWAYS in my pocket.

are you in hopes they will add buttons or dont you care for that stuff?

Thats my main complain actually, seeing as the Iphone allready has enough games, its just a pain to play them with limited control options.

The screen is already pretty much identical to the 3DS and PSP NGP (somewhere between the two I believe and certainly far higher resolution than the 3DS for example).

The controls will also improve soon enough when Apple adds haptic feedback to the screen, which is inevitable.

Apple will introduce roughly 4 iPhone new models within the lifetime of the 3DS and PSP NGP.

Just addinghaptic feedback will be enough to compensate mostly for the lack of physical buttons and control sticks etc imo.

A 3Dfolding OLED screen with haptic feedback would give them a machine that pretty much does every single thing the other machines do now and mostly just as well too, since the bottom half of the screen could basically act as one big touch control panel with haptic feedback to help differentiate the virtual buttons etc.

It's all coming very soon and likely even in an iPhone model that will come out well within the lifetime of both the 3DS and PSP NGP.

Maybe not that one single game but in principle yes. I mean Dead Space on iPhone shows that soon enough it's going to be hard to tell the difference between the library on the iPhone and machines like the 360 or PS3 and PSP NGP etc.

Me too.

The fact I might be able to use/replace it as a credit card to make direct payments for goods in places like Tesco etc is enough to get me excited, because it means one less thing to carry around with me, let alone all the other stuff it might bring, possibly even gaming related.

are you comparing deadspace on iphone to deadspace on ps3/360 !? well like most people does (except hermits i guess), i purchase a system for its games, and not cause of the technology of it. ps sorry to bring in hermits to the discussion but you really sound like one of those "it plays best on PC" hermits with the "iPhone can do it too meantaliy". when what counts are the games. imo. certainly.

i got myself an iphone 4 and i havent touched my DS since (only bought it for pokemon anyway lol)

i can play quick games like canabalt, angry birds, plants vs zombies, space invaders, whatever

or i can play games that have a little more depth to them like GTA CTW, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy I+II, Infinity Blade, and a host of other RPGs

Or I could play Real Racing 2 (tilt controls omg), BFBC2, Resident Evil 4, Lego Harry Potter, The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition (I+II), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, robot Unicorn Attack... the list goes on

and i don't have to carry around any cartridges. honestly there is a limit to how many devices i want in my pockets, and that quota is filled by the iphone. gaming? tick. phone? tick. web browsing? tick. email? tick. media player? tick.

the iphone beats other portable gaming devices so hard its not funny

He's wrong because there really aren't much better all-round (in every area) mobile devices out there at all. Despite what people who own an HTC or whatever might try and have us believe the overall experience with those devices, from actual physical design to the user interface and services etc, just don't touch the iPhone 4 for example. You are smart imo.

Seriously, it really is.

I want one single device in my pocket and nothing else (I hate carrying lots of crap around).

The iPhone is coming closest to being that single device.

Also, it's as safe as any credit card because it works almost identically...and you've got to assume that stuff will be incorporated into this one device at some point too.

I'll just go get a link for you...

thats actually my main issue with the buttonless gameplay

even if the haptic feedback is awesome, and solves some of the issues. If they add a bigger screen and a smaller screen within when playing games so you dont need to cover the main screen with your thumbs when playing, it would be awesome.

OR if its possible to use the haptic feedback to somehow create invisible buttons outside the screen. And simply use like Small drawn symbols as indications to where the buttons are.

if you gig a lot like myself..Iphone 4 is the last thing you want in your pocket i know to helli wouldnt want to take itto see A Day to remember tomorrow night:) especially if your at gigs at least 3 times a week.

I dont like the whole phone's adopting touch screen i find them finiky, annoying and just flat out crap on for a few functions.

And last but not least my experiences and life most likely differ drastically from yours.

how so? touch screens make some functions dramatically simpler. its the difference between just having a keyboard and having a mouse as well

hahahaha, the majority of iPhone games are still basically flash games or games that look nice but are super short or limited. The NGP is like a PS3 in your pocket, its going to have apps and stuff, I don't need another phone, so I'm good in that regard. The NGP will devour the next iPhone, spit it out, and then eat it up again in terms of gaming. If you don't care about gaming so much, get off a gaming site. If dead space, an old game, is enough to get you hyped more for the iPhone then games like uncharted, killzone, metal gear, etc. Then go for it. :D

While I agree to an extent, this is too soon-- we have an NGP sticky.
