Taking out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal and launching a new website pcgamingisnotdead.com today, Razer, the computer peripherials maker, declares that PC gaming is not dead, and tells us that they have a big announcement coming on August 26th.

I am not a Razer fan (more of a Logitech guy), but what does this mean? Are they planning to release some new niche product?

At any rate, I am not holding my breath.

I think Razer did a very good job with the site. But isn't a full page ad in the Wall Street Journal a little bit overkill?

Maybe it's that portable gaming device prototype they showed off a while back? Maybe they're finally bringing it to market.

Anyone that says PC gaming in dead has no idea what there talking about. PC is the system to play if you want stellar graphics and silky smooth game play. Took a break from Rift and started playing Stalker again, nothing like it on consoles.

Phoenix534

I have a subscription to the WSJ and I saw the ad in it today when I picked up my paper from the front door. But, honestly though, I rarely ever look at the ads, and the WSJ's main audience (white collar professionals) probably wouldn't know what Razer is unless they work in the computer peripherals industry.

They did it just to pad the hype some for gamers reading Kotaku. "Oh look, we even took out an ad in the Wall Street Journal (which you probably don't even read) to prove how serious we are!"

Some have been saying this since like 1985. Yet, here the PC is not only developing games but having the most AAA/AA exclusives every year. Ironic that such a thriving platform is considered "dead" by some.

It's called PR. They're obviously releasing some kind of peripheral and are trying to get people to notice. I suppose you can't expect everyone to understand business practices.

Perhaps they'll use the new netbook AMD C-60 or E-450 APUs.

AMD C-60 replaces C-50 in 9 watts space. Existing C-50 moves under C-60.

AMD E-450 replaces E-350 in 18 watts space. ExistingE-350 moves under E-450.

Most of the improvements is towards the GpGPU.

Next stop, AMD Hondo i.e. the next Z APU series.

Of course a PC accessory maker would declare that PC gaming is not dead, that's how they sell their products. Using my own two eyes I can see PC gaming is dead, even with the lies of this company trying to convince me otherwise. For instance, did you notice all the huge Steam sales recently? They were clearing stock, all most like a going out of business sale! Proof that PC gaming, if not completely dead, is mostly dead.

There's no"actual" stock with Valve's Steam DD service.

There's nothing abnormal with Steam's sales pattern.

Considering they brought in an estimated 1 billion US dollar revenue in 2010, and over 200 million US dollars in Q1 2011, I think they're doing just fine

It's not gonna die due to hardware manufacturers ALONE. There are also things like MMO's, competivive gaming which will ALWAYS be superior to console MP gaming. The most sold game of ALL TIME was on PC. PC gaming is alive and well, evolving every year. It's amazing really, how die-hard consolites can be ignorant.

Some consolite told it's dying because the PC doesn't have Block buster exclusives (AKA interactive movie )

Digital distribution services don't have a "stock".

And the PC market alone is greater than all the console and handheld platforms markets combined. Yes, ALL console and handheld platforms, combined together. "Mostly dead" lolwut.

It seems you have missed the pie chart from page 2 of this very thread.

Since 51%>6%, you fail at math. Hard.
