IMO it's more fun than the old ones.
The reason all the hardcore fans love the old ones is because of nostalgia.
It is a very mixed bag for me, I prefered the setting of the first games by far. But the character development was good in newer games.
I just feel that theyre going away from what made the first games so good to me. The good old facioned zombies (and the survival aspect)
RE4 was better than the first four (0, 1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica X) Imo, the series is going in the right direction.IronBassBuh buh teh casualization!

I don't like it at all personally. RE4 was great as an action game but it's not what I expect from a Resident Evil game. It lacked the atmosphere and "horror" factor of the original games. Everything from the new controls and the camera seem to bring something new and and evolutionary to the series while taking away the core RE feeling for me. RE5 will be an improved RE4 and take the game into an even more action oriented direction which is fine because it's Capcom's game but not what I'm looking when I play. I'll still play it for what it is though.FlamestosExactly this.
I agree. I would admit that some parts of RE1scare me (do to the surprise more than any other thing). It was just tension, not truly horror. RE4 may be less tense, but it better designed. Like Dead Space.Lol RE was never scary. :|

True fans of the series won't mind the changes the game needed a new make up..i love all RE games..and i know i will love RE5,simple haters if you don't like the game don't buy but don't make excuses to downplay the game.McdonaIdsGuyOh please, it's like saying true Batman fans wouldn't have mind the changes in Joel Schumacher's two Batman films cause it needed a new make up.
Change is only good when they do it right and that's not the case with RE4

I agree that RE wasn't scary, but it had creepy atmosphere, a mansion with seemingly infinite amount of doors, you actually felt like you were in peril. This outdoors wood hunting crap doesn't cut it. Resident Evil had puzzles (even if some were easy, there were times you'd get stuck and have to think about what you had to do), newer creatures were actually pretty scary/made you nervous and weren't just there for the hell of it. They're bringing back the dogs in RE5 but there's no point when Chris is probably going to have an MP5, Rocket Launcher, and air support which is completely stupid in a RE game. RE5 is more like Gears then it is Resident Evil, and I want Resident Evil, not Gears.Lol RE was never scary. :|

Really? Who say my standards are low? You? Please. Just for the record, RE4 is the 10th best game ever on Gamerankings. By the overall population, it is a great game. Why should I believe my standards are low? Because of you? Don't give yourself hat much importance ;)
And who are those "true gamers" you talk about? I've always thought that a "true gamer" would simply enjoy his games, and let the other people enjoy theirs, and would respect the fact that everyone has different tastes.
I find funny that you call yourself a "true gamer", yet you can't understand something as simple as that ;)
And I've been gaming for more than 15 years, why should I leave? Because you say so? Sorry, your opinion is not that important for me ;)
I like it alot. If it was the same as it used to be everyone would complain that it's just rehashes and what not.bethwoThat is true. Around here change ruins games but not changing is just rehashing. Changing will casualize but not changing decreases innovation. On topic, I like how the original ones present you with being trapped in one spot (old mansion, Police Station) and you progress throughout by gaining access to all the other places, however the gameplay of RE4 is less clunky then the old L2 to aim and up means go no matter what direction you are facing.
The gameplay in the newer ones really is not easier. It is just redesigned to make it a better shooter game.
I hope RE doesnt devolve into a generic shooter and completely lose the atmosphere of the older games. I think RE5 will be the deciding factor as far as thats concerned.......

I don't think giving it fast mechanics is exactly what made it less thrilling but making the enemies less creepy as well as the setting, making your character look like a buffed up commando instead of someone who's trying to survive as well as a less than stellar plot is the problem.
RE4 was a masterwork of a game, but its not Resident Evil. RE5 pushes that even further proving that Capcom seems to be done with survival horror in the RE world.
The main control difference between RE4 and the original RE games is that when you pull up the gun to shoot you now have the free ability to aim. They also moved the camera to the over the shoulder perspective. Beyond this, the control is identical, which is why I also find it laughable when people complain about the original titles and their movement.
Simple put though, no zombies, no claustrophobic rooms, and the heavy emphasis on action have taken the series away from its roots and made itself into a completely new game.

I personally like both types of gameplay equally, REmake was amazing and so was RE4. I would love to see another old fashioned RE game, maybe a remake of RE2 with HD pre-rendered backgrounds... That would look stunning. AdolescentDonYa I owuld too, We need to get REmake on PS3 along with RE 0 along with a 2 and 3 remake?

Any claustrophobia was because of the terrible camera angles which let zombies walk right up on you, and you fought the camera to get it in front of you. That isn't scary, its frustrating.
