Seriously, i mean seriously, are americans such fatasses taht we need to have fun to exercise and lose weight, i mean come on. Seriously. I work out at least 5 days a week, ( cause i used to be fat and im afraid of anything fat now, like micheal moore).

Americans should learn how to exercise more and not utilize the wii fit, i doubt the training that the wii fit will give you will be anywhere close to an actual fitness program will. And i cant believe sheep are actually hyping this sometimes. And the press is totally eating this up like crazy. Talk about gimmicks, i mean come on.

My advice, take diet pills and workout and to build muscles, take steroids (but dont OD) and after a while of doing that, just go back to regular exercise.

Seriously the wii fit will not help fix obesity, its a cheap marketing ploy expoliting fatasses, fatasses need to take diet pills and work out for real, this is more of a rant, im sorry.

I believe it that many inviduals can't exactly get off their butt to exercise even if they know they are out of fit or generally overweight. It hard to motivate something like that, maybe you could call WiiFit a mood point, something that could plunge them in a healthy continuation of life. It may not be dramatic, but this hybrid of game and exercise could slowly get them to want to exercise more often, not only on the WiiFit. Thats a possibility. Also, another thought occurs, it could present those already vet. exerciser to seek something new to continue this ways, something they can enjoy as well being new and good for their purpose. These are just a few possibilities for the Wiifit. Could even those who tried exercising, and got lost, get themselves back in. Who knows.. Something different, a hybrid of possible fun and exercise.

Because Wii-Fit simulates stuff you can do more easily, and cheaper in real life. Its also more fun to go out jogging or to play soccer with friends than balancing on a board.

Agreed. I've beenworking outsince I started lacrosse and now I do football too. I can't stand the thought of using a $70 video game to "work out" when Icould do some real training for free.

Not sure why you bumped this old topic, but since we're at it again...

As for the people who lack the motivation to actually get up and make a life style change, do you really think WiiFit is the holy grail of motivational workouts and will truly revolutionize their life?

The causes of obesity are more than just not working out, and the last time I checked the WiiFit doesn't come with a fruit dispenser or vitamin tablets.

Wait, have you actually played Wii Fit yet? Furthermore, what if people want to play Wii Fit instead of working out five times a week? Aren't people allowed to make choices of their own and use their money as they please?

Besides, Wii Fit is nothing compared to what Microsoft did with the 360. They rushed the console to earn a quick buck off fans and potential consumers before the PS3 would come out.

I think this applies to console releases too:

So are you going to let people make choices of their own and let them use their money as they please in regards to Wii Fit without criticising them? After all, Wii Fit certainly doesn't deserve to be scorned upon on the same level as the 360, especially since it is one game and not a whole console.

Anyways, that is why I compared the two. Why make such a big deal of Wii Fit, one simple game not even geared towards the likes of you, when the 360, a console, and thus far bigger than just one simple game, has a problem that is far worse?

I'm under the impression that WiiFit is a minigame compilation with training excercises included. It's a video game made to help you. And yes, Nintendo is capitalizing off Americans being fat and lazy.Overthrow

Excuse me but not all Americans are fat ok. If anything we should start worrying about getting to scrawny since so many are trying out starvation and becoming anerexsic.

But anyway, on topic, WiiFit shouldn't be seen as a videogame in my opinion, I guess it just gives a little motivation although I doubt it'll produce great results.

You are comparing apples to oranges it seems to me. Xbox 360 has technical problems, Wii Fit has appeal problems.

Appeal problems? Only to the hardcore. Nobody is forcing them to buy it so I don't see the problem. Nintendo obviously wants to make money, just like Microsoft did with the 360, except that in Microsoft's case, it was an actual problem, namely a technical one, and not something as petty as if it appeals to me or not. If it doesn't, then I simply won't buy it. Problem solved.

Not everyone's an exercise freak. People that are lazy will look for easy solutions or fun solutions, such as casually playing sports, going on popular fad diets, or exercise machines when they don't need to do all that.

Real exercise isn't that hard people, unless you're an absolute couch potato. Just make something up like, "Do 100 sit ups everytime a chick in a bikini is on the TV". Either that, or go outside.

Did you watch any of the videos? You are doing the same thing as a regular exercise, only with a screen to look at.

And seriosly, get real, if anyone actually expects to lose weight with those exercises in Wii Fit.....

What terrible advice.

It's important to have fun when you're doing anything, especially working out. People who do something that is not fun will tend to not want to do it, or just stop doing it.

Think of the bright side of things: we get a larger pool of hot women with things like this.

Wow that is terrible advice. First off, why waste money on diet pills that usually do very little to actually help. Working out is a good tip, but taking steroids is terrible advice.

Steroids can be dangerous if you have no clue what you are doing. You can easily develop a blood clot and if it is not caught early enough you can die from it.

Why not just workout real hard. Sure you won't get the results steriods can get you but you can get somewhat close if you are willing to work hard enough.

I think it's a cool idea. People who point out that you can do all of this if you buy a hoola hoop, yoga videos, etc. need to see that not only does Wii Fit do these things, but it also does a couple of things.

First, it keeps track of all the activities you've done and has a log of it. It's sort of like Wii Sports where you can do the daily training and a log is kept of it. So a person can actually see progress as the game records all the exercising a person does.

Secondly, if Wii Fit was previously Wii Health, it was reported that Nintendo wanted to see about making a deal with hospitals or some health insitution. The deal was to keep track and analyze the heart and condition of a person and using the wifi to send the information. It was something like this and it's a free service that can be beneficial to many people.

And lastly, at least for me, I see Wii Fit as a complement to my work out. I go to the gym and lift weights and all of that, but having this could actually prove to help me out in addition to what I do. So this would definitely be great.

no i haven't played wiifit but i do know alot about exercising. wiifit is just wii sports with more stretching. seriously look at it from an exercising point of view nothing you do in wiifit is aerobic ,anerobic, helpful in muscular in endurance/strength which means you don't loss weight or build up muscles now if it can't do either of those where exactly is the "fit" in wiifit.

You know, here in SW people argue all day as to whether the Wii is a gimmick itself. That's fine.

But the fact that anyone actually argues that this is anything more than a gimmick is rather disturbing.

I mean, first, from what I've seen, there is little to no real, actual exercise. The only one was pushups, and that's not going to be any more fun if you're playing a game. Nothing else is related to exercise outside of yoga, but their particular yoga is for flexibility and balance, not strength. So there's no benefit to doing this "program."

So while I agree with people who say exercising has to be fun, you actually have to follow that staement. EXERCISING should be fun...Wii Fit is not exercise.

Even those who cite it as a supplemental thing to your regular workout would be well cautioned not to buy in. BMI is a piss poor indicator of health. So the only actual reason to buy it is because you think Wii Fit looks fun as a game, not as an exercise regimen. I don't think I've heard anyone say that it looks fun as a game.

Honestly, if you're looking to shed some weight and use videogames, here's my suggestion.

1. Get a good scale and an electronic bodyfat analyzer. While it may not be perfect, it will be consistent (which is what you're looking for). Measure at the same time (such as first thing in the morning, before breakfast and a shower) once ever two weeks. If you do it daily, you will go insane.

2. If you have PS2/Xbox, go buy DDR and a dance mat. If you have a Wii, go buy weighted bracelets (not sure what they're called- they'll strap to your wrists and ankles at about a few pounds each). Then go play an intense session of Wii Sports. When I say intense, play it like it was a real think. So you need to be standing and acting like you're actually doing the sport (move the coffee tables). You don't need to run yourself in Tennis, but when you're waiting, act like it's a serious game and you need to pounce, which will keep your legs doing little jumps. You get the idea.

3. Do that 4 days a week and follow a healthy diet. I don't recommend any pills except a good multivitamin. If you're not sure what a healthy diet consists of, send me a PM.

I really...honestly don't see what its purpose is except to capitalise on people who honestly believe that getting Wii Fit would help them shed fat and weight effectively. I should probably mention that a goal like shedding 10kgs in a month or 2 is lot harder to achieve if you're not being serious about it and anyone who is serious about losing weight and buys Wii Fit for it is...for the lack of a better word, an idiot.

As it has been said, DDR is cheaper on the PS2 as well, and it's main selling point is dancing to music and have fun, not losing weight, which is just one benefit of playing. Wii Fit on the other hand seeks to help people keep fit with assumably fun activities, which is the other way round and feels like a forced concept.

I go to a gym very often, I'm fit enough and I have a friend who sheds weight so fast after a long break from the gym he could make millions of women envious. It makes no sense to me why anyone would logically invest in Wii Fit unless they just don't know any better.

PS: Please note this is my take on the Wii Fit only. Not bashing the Wii and other Wii games in general.

Wiifit will fix people's belly exactely the same way as brain training is fixing their mental age... how can you tell Nintendo that you feel they are offending your intelligence when so many people are proving them right?
