Yes, sales numbers are good for the company, but in no way should it affect our gaming. Real gamers shouldn't care about the numbers, they should care about the good games, and a good time. I have spoken

More sales will mean more dev support.
Your point is true, but there's nothing wrong with wanting more sales for the console you own.

I understand that more sales for the console you own = better games on that console, I'm speaking purely from my stand point, I own all 3 consoles so I can enjoy the best of all worlds, numbers have no affect on what I'm playing and what I'm loving.

I don't think that's entirely true. The DS is not getting that much of support and the Wii looks the same so far.

Draon Quest, the biggest series ever in Japan, is coming to DS now when we all thought it would land on the PS3. That's what more sales does.

One game... even the GameCube got its Resident Evil's or Metal Gear Solid's.
Every time I read the phrase "real gamers", I throw up in my mouth a little.Iyethar
Why? Truthfully, I see a lot more "gamers" complaining/comparing sales numbers and whining about graphics. Good games are good games, regardless the platform, what do the sales numbers have to do with anything? I know, I'll probably get a few more responses more sales = more games. For example, PS3, yeah it's new and all, but it hasn't sold that much, however it's still getting plenty of good games this year, and I'm sure devs will continue to support it. Like I said good games are good games.

Bad analogy. The only RE truly exclusive for GCN was announced as a PS2 multiplat before it released, and the MGS title was a remake of a PS1 game. DQIX is just a little bit different than that.

It's a sign of sloppy thinking, that's why. You're trying to divide the world into two parts and declare the part that you're in is better.

I'm not trying to say I'm better, I'm just saying I think it's rediculous for people to call themselves "gamers" when most of the time they're out and about whining about graphics and sales. Sheep are a prime example, yes I have a Wii, but there's nothing fun for ME to play on it at the moment so regardless of sales, when there's nothing for me to play, it really just doesn't matter.

The same argument can be used for the PS3, I've seen plenty of negativity towards the PS3 about its library.

It starts with one game who knows where it could lead or end up. Final Fantasy VII was that one game that PS1 got that turned the tide of the war. The console with the largest install base always gets the most 3rd Party support and that is fact. Its only a matter of time.

True. Same for PS3.[QUOTE="E_x_i_l_e"][QUOTE="Eltroz"]More sales = more developer intrest= more games = happy gamer taker42
The question is.. do more games necessarily mean better games? I think not
How about more games = more chances of better games. That's what happened for PS2 anyway. That is true, but overall, I'd much rather the devs work hard on games and produce quality over quantity.

3rd party support is one thing, but for example Sony AND Nintendo have good first party games, and I only play Nintendo consoles for their first parties.

First, you don't know any details about how these people you refer to are spending their time, other than that part of it is spent discussing sales or graphics.
Second, your personal gaming preferences and the subject of sales do not intersect. A person may share your gaming preferences and yet have a strong interest in console sales, or they may have completely different gaming preferences yet share your apathy towards sales.
I respect your apathy towards sales. I see no need for you to have any interest in them. However, when you declare yourself to be more of a gamer than those who do show an interest in sales, you are talking out of your ass.
I don't mean to say that I'm more of a gamer than those who care about sales, but those who use sales as bragging rights is just rediculous and by what I see in System Wars, some of these people are spending more time on that topic rather than playing games on the console that they choose to brag about. There's no problem with showing interest in sales, but when it affects the games you play or the console you choose to purchase it's just flat out dumb.

If you didn't mean to say it, you shouldn't have said it. That ship sailed when you typed "Real gamers".
Again, you don't know how these people budget their time. And you don't know that they are making purchase decisions based on sales numbers. Those are both straw men.
The one point you might have is in the use of sales as bragging rights. Unfortunately for that point, this is the System Wars forum. Sales are one way of keeping score of who is winning. "Wars" implies conflict, and sales are a means to measure the progress of that conflict.
If you want better discussion about games, go to General Games Discussion or game-specific forums.

No shipped sailed when I typed "Real Gamers", really, if people let sales numbers affect what games they buy, and the console they purchase, they aren't real gamers. You should go with what you really like, not what people say is better, or what numbers say is better. I realize this is System Wars, the numbers can keep score of who's winning, that's one thing. Obviously the companies are going against each other to come out on top. These wars are between the companies, the games are for the GAMERS. Using numbers to say a console is better than another is stupid. Yeah, one's selling better than another? so what, it's all personal opinion. If anything, comparing consoles' games is more logical to decide the "better" console.
I'm basing this off of what I'm reading on System Wars. I also know, MANY people in real life that I socialize with that made decisions based off numbers alone.

Stop it. You're digging yourself in deeper. Who are you to say who is and is not a gamer?
You should go with what you really like, not what people say is better, or what numbers say is better.E_x_i_l_e
Amazingly enough, most people do make decisions in accordance with their personal preferences. You'll find very few people selecting the option that they believe is inferior, no matter what the subject of decision.
I realize this is System Wars, the numbers can keep score of who's winning, that's one thing. Obviously the companies are going against each other to come out on top.E_x_i_l_e
Ah, so it was an intentional insult. You went to a place where you were guaranteed to find people who both care about sales figures and identify themselves as gamers, and told them that they weren't gamers. Classy.
These wars are between the companies, the games are for the GAMERS. Using numbers to say a console is better than another is stupid. Yeah, one's selling better than another? so what, it's all personal opinion. If anything, comparing consoles' games is more logical to decide the "better" console.E_x_i_l_e
"Better" is a matter of opinion and so is not really up for proper debate. However, it is very logical and reasonable to use sales figures to declare that one console is more successful or popular than another. This is a natural topic of interest for this forum.
I'm basing what I'm reading on System Wars. I also know, MANY people in real life that I socialize with that made decisions based off numbers alone.E_x_i_l_e
Would you tell them to their faces that they're not real gamers?
