Depends on the genre.

I'm kinda tired of the dark gritty "mature" games though.

That one was aimed at you Sony! Sure, I played Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, Syphon Filter, Vigilante 8 and Metal Gear Solid but I also played Spyro, Crash, Klonoa and Ape Escape.

Do something about this Sony!

The Sly Collection and Little Big Planet is a good start :)

I don't know. That's why I have both a PC and a Wii. Perhaps it's because I subconsciously like the art direction of games for the Wii even though I prefer overall the realism of games for the PC.

I like when games try to go with a realistic direction, some so it very well like Uncharted and Alan Wake, if it's on the Wii though it usually falls short with trying to go with a realistic artistic direction.

It depends. Some games looks better with a realistic art direction:

Metro 2033

While others looks better with a stylized art-direction.

The Settlers 7

GOd of war 3 Uncharted 2 Basically every game on the ps3.3DSOG

I literally laughed out loud. If anything, its Crysis and STALKER that have the art direction. UC and GoW were made to be uber-realistic, and weren't just realistic as a result of the technology.

When it comes to my position... I generally tend to enjoy games more when they have a specific styIe they are going after, and not just trying to be "uber-realistic" (in the sense they are made to be realistic, but end up not being realistic in a technical sense, but a highly overdone artistic sense... like Gears of War). Examples being DKCR, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia [2008], Shadow of the Colossus, etc. etc.

Sometimes I wonder if people that obsess over very styIised graphics (Okami, Kirby etc) are able to appreciate the beauty of real life.

I like realistic graphics in games targeting realism and artsy graphics in games targeting fantasy. Pretty obvious eh? :P

ps. I like how this thread put some hermits in denial

i like realism more because im 27 going on 28, and cartoonish art direction isnt really appealing to me anymore, it was from and anime standpoint when i was into anime but now im more into the emersive realistic looks of games now...
