At GDC two major things were announced PSHome and LBP PSHome - no innovations whatsoever... already done by games like animal crossing or sims - its not as free as cows claim.. second life is a good example.. people are spending 1,5 million dollars of microtransaction a day playing it. you will have to buy a house.. buy clothes.. buy furniture.. go and play Animal crossing DS or Sims2 - the basic functionalities are downloading and achievements, streaming movies, matchmaking , online lobby, chatting, retro games download.. - so its online sims with xbox live functionalities and not even as free as the cows claim... LBP - looks like a solid game.. could hit AAA status could fail like Loco roco in a critics point of view and a financial point of view - comes out in 2008.. which is ages away nothing groundbreaking.. killzone is also rumored to look leaps away from the E3 2005 trailers all i see is broken promises (killzone) and some copied concepts with one good game that saves the whole announcement from oblivion

The KZ demo was to show off the devtools, not the game.

Very poor thread. You don't have to buy anything in HOME. If you do decide to buy things ...  it is because you love love love that aspect of it.

just seems like they are trying to over-complicate the way people interact with each other. I would prefer to jus run the game then invite my friend and not turn on the console start up home find my friend, go to some place so we can play together and then run the game and then find a server which is how im assuming its going to work. I find it very hard to believe the hype surrounding home, its by no means at all innovative and the funny thing being you have to purchase clothes and furniture etc.. what a joke. They are pulling your leg and doing a very good job at it.

You don't ever have to go through Home. You can message your friends or play an online game without entering Home, and you don't have to buy any clothes or furniture , lol.

So what is the point of home again?D4rkfire

Playstation Home is essentially a living world inside your console. It's probably a flawed analogy but think of it as Second Life meets the PS3.

The apartment, and there are lots of different types, look very realistic and can be customized with real-world furniture, wallpaper, picture frames that show images from your harddrive, even televisions that stream your own original video content.

The idea, it seems, is that your apartment will become the nexus of your Playstation 3 experience. It is where you can listen to music, look at pictures, watch video, invite your friends over to talk and even go into multiplayer games together to play as a group.

"This could become your clan heaquarters," Harrison said. "From within home you can launch multiplayer games directly. You can then come back into home afterward and talk about it."

Next Harrison showed a more sophisticated apartment. This one had several levels, an outdoor deck and a much nicer design.

Home will also have other public spaces, like the Home Cinema, a sort of virtual movie theater complete with a large front lobby and separate screening rooms.

It's also possible for companies or publishers to create their own spaces. For instance Electronic Arts could create a space that shows off their current and upcoming games in a virtual world that looks more like a mall than a store.

Just when you think Sony is down they come fighting back with something like this.

I'm still a little shocked with the announcement. It just builds off Myspace which is already so successful...it's really quite smart. Makes you remember why Sony has won the last 2 gens.

I'm not real big on the PS3 but lems shouldn't be boasting XBL. PC gamers have had similar networks for free years before XBL came along.

True, but the system wasn't built around online play like the PS3 and 360.

i am baffled how cows can get excited by any sh*** sony puts out...

nintendo makes animal crossing and mario.. OMG TEH KIDDIE CRAP

sony makes clones . OMG INNOVATION GOTY AND CONSOLE KING CONFIRMED

I say let the cows be happy for their microtransaction version of Animal Crossing. While they are blowing their money giving their avatar a pink afro, we'll be spending our hard-earned dough on games.

You shouldn't make false statements. You don't have to pay a cent for this FREE feature.
If people want to pay for gold that is up to them because they don't have any alternative to play online. I would have to pay for live because they force me to but people can do what they want.

if nintendo made this, the whole internet will be like "innovation", "nintendo owns", but because its Sony, people are still hating.

FACT: hating on something that is FREE, is pure Jealousy and Envy.

LBP - looks like a solid game.. could hit AAA status could fail like Loco roco in a critics point of view and a financial point of view - comes out in 2008.. which is ages away nothing groundbreaking.. killzone is also rumored to look leaps away from the E3 2005 trailers all i see is broken promises (killzone) and some copied concepts with one good game that saves the whole announcement from oblivionfarnham

No, no broken promises, just idiotic sony fanboys that think PS3 is a better machine because .... it comes later ... and costs more

Fact is 360 has the games, the graphics and the online PERFECT, PS3 has nothing yet, and for 1-2 years more, this GDC was THE huge dissapointment, not one new game announced, a real disaster for PS3

I beg to differ really, i can't see anything inthat ...virtual home (or Wii Mii crap for that matter), nor can i see anything good about that stupid 2D game, it has no soul in it, might be fun for ... 10 minutes

I see no GAMES, like Mass Effect or Lost Odyssey, where are games like those ? Waitstation just proved that it only has gimmick offerings for 1-2 more years, not for me thanks

I buy Shivering Isles in 27 March, Mass effect in May, and Bioshock, Lost Odyssey and blue Dragon in September, then i will have to wait for Eternal Sonata, Infinite undisocvery and Fable 2, Halo 3, Too Human, all actually COMING, not in 2 years like FF13 or White Knight we see nothing of yet

Fact is 360 has the games, the graphics and the online PERFECT, PS3 has nothing yet, and for 1-2 years more, this GDC was THE huge dissapointment, not one new game announced, a real disaster for PS3

Yeah...considering that everyone's been discussing Home since the GDC. Good going.

because MS decided to make no announcements and show masseffect, Lost odyssey , Blue dragon and fable 2 while Sony needed GDC desperately to promote PS3.. looks like they failed.. Cows are rejoicing all overit but noone cares outside of that i mean cows are rejoicing over motorstorm and resistance so..

Do you often dream dreams like these when you talk to other people? Please do yourself a favor and look up a dictionary for the words "fact", "opinion", and "delusion". The last word applying very much to yourself.

It's not a game genius, it's an online service like Live and Mii.

No. Home is truly not that big of a deal. I mean, yes it is nice, but it doesn't substitute or function better than XBL (sorry dudes) and it doesn't put Sony suddenly on top of the world. It's a cool (unreleased, so maybe it won't be so cool when it comes out) feature. That's it. Not a Mandate of Heaven sent directly to the PS3 to rule as empire of the console world.

im just getting tired of bold statements you cows make

how can you evaluate a SERVICE by only looking at the PROMISES

Xbox Live looked great on paper when they first announced it...

but it had many many problems that were fixed over the years.. now its a good service ...

you think Home will own Xbox Live on day one..?

i dont think so

you think XBL will stay just the same..?

i dont think so

MS has an advantage.. they can easily expand their service and fix it since they are taking money from subscribers..

This is why your endless praising of the PSHome has no credibility. It is not an online service, and neither are Miis. For Nintendo, friend codes are their online service (which is endlessly crappier) and Miis aren't even in the picture at this point in time. We have no idea what role they will play in Nintendo's online games, since they don't have any. PSHome is not an online service, PSN is the online service. PSHome adds some new features and works over the online service, but it still lacks the basic easy-to-use interface and functionality of XBL. In addition to that, it will still suffer from the issues PSN has until PSN itself is fixed.

True, but I stand by the fact that it doesn't replace XBL, because they just are not the same thing. It could, in theory, offer better functionality but what has been shown doesn't entirely indicate that. XBL is a fully integrated service in your 360, not something you have to open and run, something you have constant access to. And that's what the PSN is for the PS3. PSHome is a supplement, addition, whatever you want to call it.

they have three online services Miis - exchange avatars virtual console - download games voting channel - submit vote and look at statistics i can see them making a couple of interesting low fi channels like the voting channel

Why were people owned? How does this actually make games more fun? I'm not hating on PSHome, because I think its a good idea.

Which still makes it the online service.....I've not even begun to talk of my opinion on the PSHome so what is this "endless praising" you talk of? You're like Yellow_Rose in that you assume things.

Ahh, I put the bold on to much of your statement. I was mainly talking about the latter part. All I'm saying is that we don't know if it will be worse, equal, or better then Live.

I thnk TC makes some valid points. This is SW and everything is taken to an extreme, but first home is not out yet and we ALL are not sure how it will be implemented. Will it work immediately or will Sony have to iron out some bugs. Also, it is cool, but I would rather have some quality games. Having said all of this, I am looking forward to home and what Sony has to offer. I think the overwhelming reaction to home is because Sony has been getting beat up pretty bad lately. On this point, Sonly only has themselves to blame. Sony's PR dept. should learn the concept of under promise over deliver. They have promised a whole lot with home, can this be delivered? Time will only tell.
