[QUOTE="shadow8585"] The launch consoles were not made with the highest quality and had faulty drives (you know it is launch console because it advertises Call of Duty 2 on the back). The newer consoles with Gears of War advertised on the back of the boxes are improved in all aspects (compared mine to my friends launch console). Mines runs quiter and put out less heat in the same room, running the same amount of time both in the vertical position in a Gears system link party too.
Another reason why Xbox 360s are breaking is the Nyko Intercooler. For those of you not familliar of how it runs, you plug the 360 power supply into the intercooler and you plug the intercooler into the back of the Xbox 360. This drains power from the Xbox 360 which over time kills the console because certain parts are not getting the proper power. They also melted to the back of the Xbox 360 and burned out the port where you plug the power supply into. Sadly, at least 500,000 Nyko Intercoolers have been sold.
Obviously some systems just have their own problems (dust or poor manufacturing), but consoles that have died from those freak accident problems are very limited. If you buy a console with Gears of War advertised on the back to prove its newly manufactured and keep it well ventilated, you will not have a probelm.
Redfingers
The percentages are so high that I disagree with any interpretation that doesn't assume widespread design failures that are inherent in nearly every Xbox 360 or the Xbox 360 being prone to specific defects.
I've read the Nyko Intercooler is, in fact, innoculous and the rumors of it affecting death are essentially fabricated.
The Xbox 360 Elite model still has the same drives, the same GPU, the same CPU, the same heatsinks....the same everything. They haven't fixed launch issues.
"Freak accident problems." That is an outright lie and a fabrication. I found three threads today filled with people claiming their 2nd or fourth console. Don't give me that nonsense. "Freak accident!" These accidents happen on a ridiculous basis, and there must be a substantial reason behind that.Â
The reason behind that is using surge protectors, Nyko Intercoolers and lack of ventilation. That makes up 95% of the console break downs. The other 5% is freak accidents that can't be avoided due to the law of probability (not ever console has a 100% success rate...).Â
POINT OF THREAD: IF EVERY XBOX 360 OWNER DID NOT USE A NYKO INTERCOOLER, DID NOT PLUG INTO A SURGE PROTECTOR AND KEPT THEIR SYSTEM AND POWER BRICK WELL VENTILATED, THE FAILURE RATE WOULD BE A LOT LOWER. MANY OF THE PROBLEMS ARE BROUGHT ON THE CUSTOMERS BY THEIR OWN LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. THEY TREAT THIS NEXT GEN SYSTEM LIKE IT IS A GAMECUBE OR SOMETHING THAT DID NOT REQUIRE THE SLIGHTEST CARE OR CONSIDERATION...Â
