Racing? I'm pretty sure PC won the racing GOTY of 2006. Nice try bud. Do consoles have simulators? TBS? Adventure? No. All that comes out for fighting and platformer games are crappy rehashes. I bet most people would take an AAA FPS over an AAA fighting game.

I think it's mostly hardware.  You really either have to have deep pockets or know what you're doing for pc gaming (most hermits in SW have deep pockets)

My reason is pretty much I don't want to have to upgrade my system.  The consoles give you a good couple years of gaming, and you don't need to buy new graphics cards for them or anything.

Plus, I prefer the console controller.  The genres I most enjoy are action games, shooting games, and platformers, and the console controller works pretty well for those.

in order to be a "Games for Windows" game (ie every game released on Vista and beyond), it must support the 360 controller.

I find PC gaming too expensive (especially thanks to Vista). I also hate M/KB controls. If the Games for Windows initiative really gets gamepad support into every game (and actually usable), then I might consider it.

True but console FPS games are tailored for the speed of an analog and PC FPS games are tailored for the speed of a mouse. Using a gamepad on a PC FPS generally will be less fluid than using one on a console, even the 360 controller.

I think most people who find the KB&M controls uncomfortable are the ones who never tried to get used to it, or have a impractical gaming KB&M.

No, not on consoles. Games like Soul Cal, Tekken, Psychonaunts, Mario anything, Ratchet andClank, Jak and tons more will always sell more than those genres on consoles.

I use to play pc games. But i stopped when xbox came out. I just don't like the pc experience. The keyboard gives me cramps. There was always some patch or or update i had to deal with. I got caught up in the whole video card, hardware upgrade thing a few years ago and it was a complete waste of money for me. With consoles, i can just concentrate on the games. With the pc i was fuddling around with settings and patches more than i was playing the game.

This forum is a horrendous poll to base the industry on. It's only good for finding out a concencus of the people who frequent GameSpot. Actually I will do a poll but FPS will be left off. So what, RTS vs Platformers and Fighters?

MMORPGs? Simulators? Adventures? PC dominates these genres as well you know, and even if in your opinion "they don't particularly play well" (and you're saying this about things like WoW, The Sims, Flight Simulator), doesn't mean they don't exist, or aren't a legitimate reason for owning a PC. As for your comment about racers, the 2006 GOTY was on PC (yes I know it's a dead horse, but if you keep bringing up PCs have no racers (it has GTR, Need for Speed, F1, Nascar, Grand Prix in spades). The only genres it's really weak in are sports, fighters and platformers. As these genres are usually criticised as the lightest, I don't see the problem.

So the people who have 300 hour saves in FF games, have 5000 matches played of Halo 2 online and have beaten Ninja Gaidens' Master Ninja Mode are casuals? Rash generalizations anyone?

Ah, i love this argument. How convienent is it to hook up your pc to your hdtv out in your living room? You have to monopolize the pc for games on your tv , nobody can use the pc while you are hogging it to play UT2004 . You have to have the right videocard that can output properly to your television. You have to have room on your coffee table for a keyboard and mouse. you have to have optical output from your sound card to run to your receiver. Yeah...no thanks. And the cost of getting my pc to come close to the equivalent of my 360 or ps3 would cost more than the two consoles combined....NOT WORTH IT.

This is the only reason why I enjoy console gaming more. I just cant afford to "beef up my rig" right now so I generally only play RTS's and Valve shooters on my computer.

For me it was the opposite. I started out on consoles. Then went to PC and consoles. Then went to consoles only. Then I just couldn't get into console gaming and went back to PC only gaming. Then I bought a 360, had it for a while, then I just lost my interest for it and sold it. The only console system I own now is a GC with Mario Strikers and SSBM. Might buy a Wii later on though. PC's games just have soo much more depth and longetivity IMO.

[QUOTE="voxware00"]i have a usb controller
you can also get an adapter for your controller......
oh .. and you can hook up your pc to your tv
so really.. pc does everything console does
devs just dont support it as well
Videodogg
Ah, i love this argument. How convienent is it to hook up your pc to your hdtv out in your living room? You have to monopolize the pc for games on your tv , nobody can use the pc while you are hogging it to play UT2004 . You have to have the right videocard that can output properly to your television. You have to have room on your coffee table for a keyboard and mouse. you have to have optical output from your sound card to run to your receiver. Yeah...no thanks. And the cost of getting my pc to come close to the equivalent of my 360 or ps3 would cost more than the two consoles combined....NOT WORTH IT.

er..you can't use the TV while you'r eusing a console either.

The three genres you listed were Racers, Platformers and Fighting games. There are a few flaws in your argument. For Racing, the PC had the best Racing game last year, and so far the only AAA racer this gen. As for the other two genres, they have been rather stagnant. Platformers haven't had anything noteworthy since Psychonauts, which was on PC, and has been re-released on Steam for the PC. As for Fighting games, many of the best ones last year were retro games that were downloadable via XBLA or VC, or GT, even. >_>

Do a poll here on SW of this. I bet platformers and fighters will be at a low percentage.....
Spartan070
This forum is a horrendous poll to base the industry on. It's only good for finding out a concencus of the people who frequent GameSpot. Actually I will do a poll but FPS will be left off. So what, RTS vs Platformers and Fighters?

Why would you only put RTS's, platformers, and fighters in the poll? I know that GS's forums don't represent the entire population, but they do usually represt the hardcore gaming section of it pretty well.

Accually the reason I dont like PC games very much is....

PC doesnt allow multiplayer on one screen
PC you have to install games, download patches, updates, for games
PC you have to worry about having updates to video cards, ect.
PC you have to download "talking programs" and learn how to use them
Consoles make playing games...easy, fun and able to play multiplayer on one screen......
And yes...I have played a couple PC games religously for 3 years, so I know about PC games....

The only reasosn i see for console gamers to be console gamers is pricing. PC Gaming at the high end is a very expensive hobby, that and you have to keep a good posture and sit in a comfortable chair. PCs have the better of the consoles when it comes to innovation (Introversion) graphical quality (PCs have had High Def games for years) and brute force processing power. A gaming rig today will out perform both of the Next Gen graphics focused consoles and its no great stretch of the imagination to see that console hardware riffs of the back of PC evolution. And only retain graphical advantage until the next PC hardware cycle, if that. (Hell this generation PCs started of on equal footing with the new DX10 Graphics Cards and Quad Core Intel Extremes.) Lets face facts people, your 'consoles' are hamstrung high end PCs that sit in the living room. So with that out of the way we come down to games and console exclusive titles. And the PC and Console markets provide for very different consumer bases. Games that work on consoles, in a social, party environment don't work on PCs. Sports Titles, Beat-em-ups, Party Games. All of the take advantage of the consoles ability for immediate multiplayer competition. PCs on the other hand offer a much more singular gaming experiance. Its the difference between listening to a record with your mates and listening and appreciating a record on your own. Both approuches have there advantages, and both approuches pump out some incrdible, engaging games. I'm a PC Gamer but i don't deny the quality of the titles that come out purely for the console market. Nor do I hide my appreciation for solid hardware and software design behind juvenile devisions within the hobby.. I wouldn't be a gamer if I did....i'd be a fanboy.
