Reasons why the PS3 will NOT be a failure.

(Please note that these are mme personal opinons, and is no way shape or form fanbbyoism. So dont scrutinize me, you System War Jackels!)

Here is my reasons why the PS3 will not be a failure and will not "die".

1. Games: Yes we all knows the story. "ZOMG DMC4 on 360!" But ypour forgetting theres franchises thst are coming to the PS3 that you will never see on the 360. (Ratchet and clank, Tekken, Killzone, Jak and daxter, SOCOM, FF games (excluding 11), and every first party game. PS2 had soooo many killer franchises that will more or less transfer over to this gen.

2. Blu-Ray built in: note that this only applies if you care for HD videos. PS3 is one of th echepest blu-ray players out there. and it also plays games to boot. So when Blu-Ray wins, people are going to look for the cheapest way to get blu-ray (again, people who care about it) Imagine there surprise when they find out there Blu-Ray player plays games. I for one dont think Blu-ray is necessary for this gen, but its great for movies. If anything, sony could sell the PS3 for blu-ray alone. (which wouldnt be good for there gaming division, because you need people to buy games.)

3. Six Axis potential: now this is a bit of a confusing matter to me. Why would sony pimp this tilt thing if half there games dont even use it or when they use it, they hardly utilize it. Luckly, games like Lair and War Hawk should make EXCELLENT use of the six axis. THe potential is there.

4. THere is going to be a price drop: I laugh my arse off at people on system wars that say, "Its 600 dollars! Fission Mailed SONY!" There is going to be a price drop people. Once the console gets around 400 (maybe 500) we may see PS2 owners coming to the PS3. So please dont be foolish enough to think its going to be 600 dollars forever.

1. all consoles have great franchises. but unless ps3's sales pick up i don't see them staying on ps3 for long.

3. it's really only good for that one type of play. much more of a gimmick than the wiimote.

4. just wait. well i don't see sales picking up that much at 500. isn't it around that much in japan? they still have the 20 gig one in amazon japan (so i assume other places have it too) for around $400 us.

2 mistakes with your post

Its not getting a 200 dollar price drop. Ill bet on that. As for 100 price drop its still 500 bucks. when 360 will obviousaly have a price drop and be 200/300/and 400 for the Elite. so the big price drop wont be so huge this year IMO.jg4xchamp

I doubt there will be a price drop for the 360 anytime soon. first they said themselves they aren't going to, second this is looking to be the first time the xbox name has ever made money so why would they thrust themselves back into the red for the 6th straight year.

2 mistakes with your post

Sixaxis is just a gimmick. Tilt can be integrated into games for a few things, but it lacks a rest state - eliminating input on any given axis requires a conscious effort. On a joystick, you just stop pushing in that direction, but with tilt, you actually have to hold still. It's like driving a car with too much power steering - there's no feedback.lowe0

This is a lie, I'm afraid. Have you tried driving in Motorstorm using the Sixaxis controls? You don't just float. I actually found that in this particular game, there was too large of a "rest area" where the car would just sit still, requiring you to jolt it to either side to steer.

Still, calling a feature a gimmick when it drives the control schemes of two major games for the platform is a little over the top. Factor Five cited it as the reason they preferred the PS3 platform while Warhawk says its a great feature. We've heard from Factor Five and lots of previews/hands on that the motion controls are ultimately superior to any joystick/gamepad option.

LMAO, he made a thread about this last week.

I really didnt intend for this to be a PS3 vs 360 thread. I was just stating what I think the consoles streanths are.

2. PS3 is really batting 2 pitchers at once. It has the Movie industry its trying to conquer as well as the gaming. Its a Win/lose situation..not a Win/win. Right now, it makes for a better BD player than gaming device especially since the competition is outselling it atleast 2 to 1.
3. There aren't many games that utilize this feature like they could. It is in many ways like the eyetoy where they had to release games specifically for it, not as a feature in a game itself. There really isn't a reason to utilize it with it being so limited compared to the Wii-mote, I'm not sure why the rushed this as a feature trying to combat Ninty or their leagal issues with Immersion.
4.The better experience can be found on X360 but at a cheaper price, why would they wait on PS3's price to drop?

Did you not read my second post. I am in no way or form comparing it to the 360. So please dont take it upon yourself to make it so. I am merely stating what I think the PS3s main streangths are. Do not turn this into a "oh, but the 360 has this better than the PS3" type of thread. I dont care about the 360 in this thread.

Well written and a sound theory, but there is one major problem......This would have been applicable if posted shortly after E3 06!!! The reality is the PS3 is doing horribly in all markets (as of today!!) and until Sony makes some major overhauls either to the system, marketing or other, the PS3 will continue down its path of failure.

Many people on these boards will say "give the system some time", well the reality again is....Sony is running out of time. E3 07 will be a good indicator whether or not Sony will have a competitive system this gen, or a niche system dropped from the spotlight but considered a collectable by console enthusiasts...

In all honesty thats the pickle Sony has gotten itself into with the PS3, they are currently in a make-or-break situation and its usually a formula for failure. Sony can have a good/decent show at E3 07, but decent is not enough to change their position this gen....Sony needs to have a flawless performance this year to turn things around. Not that it is impossible to do, just extremely difficult!!! While MS and Ninty can have normal performances at E3, (a little Halo here, a little Mario there) Sony will have to come out in a full rage of software, features, innovations, and shocking announcements to have a successful E3....Unfortunately that doesnt seem possible given the current condition of Sony and the PS3.
