bioshock and Mass effect because both offer more than pretty graphics, most people tend to hype ps3 games based on screenschots and now they are flopping cause of gameplay. Bioshock--the gameplay, story and setting. Mass Effect, the story, setting, and conversation system.
Bioshock - engaging atmosphere, fun gameplay that provides more choices in getting past an enemy than the typical run-and-gun FPS, great graphics, great soundtrack
Mass Effect - its a bioware game and looks to be a great rpg/shooter crossbreed
Super Mario Galaxy - its been called the true sequel to Super Mario 64 and has had lots of positive previews
halo, cause microsoft will probibly pay them 2
ill root for mass effect though made by bioware who is located in my hometown :)Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Im curious. On the list below take out any games you think are GOTY contenders and tell me why you think so. Honestly I think this is a good way to weed out fanboyism. This is a great list but theres no way SSBB or Rachet and Clank are game of the year contenders. There going to be great games but not the best of the year. I'd say my favorite game of the years going to be Halo 3, but game of the year will go to BioShock (but not on GS) and Mass Effect. But if Crysis plays as good as it looks it could win. And if your going to but Rachet and Clank you might as well put Assasins Creed, Call of Duty 4, and Company of Heros Opposing Fronts.

LoZ: Phantom Hourglass:
One of the highest praised franchise, a new control scheme that's both innovative and actually works extremely well, the great artstyle from Wind Waker, the same great dungeons/puzzles the serie is known for.
Super Mario Galaxy:
Once again, a quality franchise, believe will take the platforming genre to new levels with the whole space/planets/gravity theme, possibility of some innovative stuff thx to the wiimote, great variety of environments, colorful look pleasing to the eye with great artstyle.
Hard to say, BioShock is the only one thats been reviewed, and it was kind of on the low end(not that 9.0 is at all bad, but given the competition it may not be enough) with a number of slightly significant marks against it.
MP3 could be up there depending on how much they love the control scheme/VA/planet hopping and wrap up to the Prime series.
SMG from all accounts looks like one of the front runners, from amazing previews, graphics and art, matching SM64 is content and even innovation/freshness without any of the technical issues that N64 titles suffered.
Mass Effect is also one of the biggest contenders given its scope, content and versitility. If everything thats been said and promised comes true and there arent major technical issues it could be a lock.
SSBB really depends on the depth of its online and adventure modes. If Sakurai and his boys can provide a lengthy, well told and balanced story mode along with a solid online mode not short on features and battle modes it could really be a surprise heavy weight.
Halo 3 rests on its single player and co-op mode. Can they finish the fight and really fulfill all their promises and live up to the hype.
Those are the titles I see having the best chance. I personally wanna see SSBB take it just because its a complete beauty oozing with more fan service than any game I have seen before, and would love to see the series get the recognition it deserves. But if I had to put money on it I would say its between SMG, Mass Effect, MP3 and BioShock.

Mass Effect- Bioware 'nuff said.
Bioshock- Best game since Deus Ex.
Metroid Prime 3- Other two titles (especially MP1) were great, looks like it will be the first Wii game to really make good use of the Wiimote.
Halo 3- Should be an epic finale to one of the best series out there.
Super Mario Galaxy- Great previews, again it should make great use of the Wiimote.
Crysis- Insane graphics and physics, only question is the gameplay.

Oh yeah forgot about Crysis, oh yeah that game could be the PC's GOTY. Bioshock also GOTY material, Mass Effect possibly, Halo3 maybe (think it's overhyped). Mario could take it if they really have some great play.
My question is what is the PS3 offering for a GOTY this year?

The rest of these games have nothing defining, Bioshock for the PC, for me was a huge disappointment. Better luck next time. And please don't be childish. Bioshock for the PC at least has more glitches than STALKER, no multiplayer, and absolutely no variety in enemies. The weapon upgrades feel useless and the AI on Hard was terrible. I know, I am going to get flak for this, but Halo 3 is never going to be defining. Its Halo 2 with glam and glitter and a lot more casual gameplay. God I am sick of hearing about which Console is best. You all will never win. Everyone has their pros and cons and debating about them leads nowhere. Oh no, the Xbox has a high failure rate. Oh no, the PS3 has no good games. Oh no, the Wii is to childish. Grow up and act smart. Now on to more popular discussion...

SSB was one of my favorite games growing up plying on the N64. I even got it for the Cube it was a lot of fun and brought back memories. But to put it as the best game of 2007 is a bit much. When you compare it to a benchmark game like Bioshock which doeseverythingso perfectly andreally sets a new standard of what can be in a game. How does it compare? What makes it different from SSBM? Arent they alsousing the Wii classic controlerfor itand not the Wiimote?xXHackettXx
SSBB uses the Wii-mote, Wii-mote/Nunchuck, GC controller and Classic Controller. It has Final Smashes, more characters, more stages, the biggest ensemble of musicians, Assist Trophies, stickers, more items and more to come. The game is going to have a fully realized story mode and some degree of online play. Nintendo and Sakurai arent holding a thing back in development for it. I dont think its rash to say its getting more funding and support than any other Nintendo title ever has.
Compared to BioShock, which is an outstanding game, in the eyes of GS it has not done everything perfectly when it comes to enemy variations, difficulty and balancing. Its still one of the top contenders, but I dont see anything it does wildly better than that of SSBB in terms of production values and quality, which is really as far as you can go comparing the two. I dont think it has a huge chance of getting GOTY but its certainly not out of the running.

Good post. I still dont think it will win game of the year but it should be up there as a contender. Its just is not the big leap forward that I got when I played Bioshock, but I guess will just have to wait for SSBB to come out.You know what. I play lots of good games. i play Half Life 2 still, I know its that good. I have all the systems and a good pc. I just don't like many of the games this gen. I feel like I am paying a premium for crap. Hitched gameplay, no design, stolen ideas. All gaming is or has become is a monopoly. I pretty much understand this now. Soon, Gaming will turn into what happened to the DVD business. There only be one console, just different manufacturers. I can see it know. 10 Variations of one system, each with its own 'perks' so to say. I only play older games because I feel like heart, soul, and hard earned sweat went into each of them to make them great games. I am still waiting for my Half Life of this generation and all I see are a bunch of developers and publishers making variations of the same game. What happened to the good ol days of developers making their own engines and striving to make great games. Now, all the work is done for the developers as they license a game engine. They still can't make the same kind of games they used too because they have limited knowledge on how to use an engine they didn't build themselves. Just look at the Silicon Knight suit againt Epic. It makes sense. Epic made a high priced game engine and didn't include a frickin manual with it. Silicon Knights had a 'foreign product' to work with. They tried and tried and couldn't make it work, so they made their own engine. Too Human looks liek its shaping up to be very good. Infact, the graphics look neat and much more colorful and the framrate issues have been addressed.
After that, all I am saying is, I don't like too many games unless the company developing the game has made its own engine and is truly commited to making a great game. Look at Half Life, Halo 1, Gears of War, CoH, Crysis, GTA series, etc etc.
Im curious. On the list below take out any games you think are GOTY contenders and tell me why you think so. Honestly I think this is a good way to weed out fanboyism.
Bioshock Atmosphere. Great sound, graphics, interesting gameplay. Played demo, not full game.
Metroid Prime 3 Same FPA gameplay from past Metroid Primes, Wii remote shooting.
Halo 3 Online play, basically whatever else is good about Halo
Super Smash Bros Brawl Most likely online play, good gameplay with more features, new single-player mode.
Mass Effect Gameplay, including complex conversation system.
Super Mario Galaxy Said to be very fun and a true successor to Super Mario 64. Also impressive-looking for a Wii game.
Little Big Planet Semi-2D platforming gameplay with 4 characters at a time, customization. This game made me smile.
Unreal 3 Online play, as Unreal is known for. Makers also promise good single-player mode (read article in OXM).
Crysis This one's mostly hyped for its graphics, but what I've heardabout gameplay is sort of impressive.
Uncharted Nice-looking-and-hopefully-playing adventure game.
Rachet&Clank I've always liked R&C's shooter/platformer gameplay and humor. This one's returning to its platforming roots, apparently.

I'm guessing they'll all be pretty good (actually, Bioshock is already out). I'm most anticipating SMG and, for next year, LBP (which, again, won't be up for 2007 GOTY), even though I don't own a PS3.

But reviewers just seem to HIGHLY underate games built around multi-player. I'd say either Halo 3 or Mario Galaxy have the best chances.
