Reckoning is the first original IP RPG in 12 years to top the UK charts

38 Studios and EA'sKingdoms of Amalur: Reckoningtook the top spot in the UK software sales charts in its launch weekend.

For the week ended February 11, and according to data from tracking firm Chart-Track,Kingdoms of Amaluris the first original IP RPG to top the charts sincePokemon Redback in 2000.

Last week's number one,Final Fantasy XIII-2, was forced down to number two with a 54 percent drop in sales week-over-week, while newcomerThe Darkness IIentered the charts at number three.

The majority of the titles in the top 10 saw a drop in sales week-over-week, withMetal Gear Solid HD Collectionsales down 49 percent,FIFA 12sales down 19 percent, andBattlefield 3sales down 29 percent.

Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Gamesre-entered the charts at number 10, thanks to the release of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

Below are Chart-Track's all-platforms sales charts, which include unit sales of all versions of a given title, and the individual platform charts, which treat individual SKUs separately.

The Xbox 360 version ofKingdoms of Amalur: Reckoningtook number one in Chart-Track's individual formats top 10 chart, while the PS3 version only managed to snag ninth position.

The Darkness II, the other new entry into the chart last week, took second position with its Xbox 360 version.

It's clear 360 gamers have more appreciation for new IP's regardless if they're exclusive or not. :twisted:

Anyway, good to see the games selling well.

Its doing good compared to other games, but in the middle of February is that really a huge feat? I'd like to see actual numbers.

I'm glad it has sold well. I think it looks pretty generic but I might get it for PS3 if it goes down to $20 soon.

Good to hear, game is very good. ALso nice to see Darkness2 on there to. People are sleeping on REckoning and Darkness2 imo! They see the 7.5 and 7/10 scores and act like thats a bad score, try the games! Both good games in there own right!

The generic slam annoys me a little. People seem to use it like a safe word, to protect themselves from ridicule. It's not ground breaking by any means but it's no more generic then Dragon Age or Skyrim. Skyrim slips by on the dragons and the dragons alone because it's horrid combat can't sustain it; nor can it's robotic (Still. New engine my ass.) characters.

A few tweaks and additions and Amalur could be one of the greats so hopefully this means another game.

For those holding off because of the generic comments I wouldn't worry about it. At it's core Amalur does what most RPG's are forgetting to do these days: be a fun game. They are too caught up in being cinematic - see mass effect and it's stripped down third person shooter game-play- where the combat is only there as a filler between annoying action set pieces.

Holding off for a price cut on a game you're not sure about is of course a good idea. However, don't assume you know what Amalur is all about before you have played it. If you are looking for a fun video game and not a lame attempt at a fantasy simulation or action movie, Amalur is fantastic.

Totally deserved top spot.. And really, fantasy games all kind of pull from the same basic pool of stuff, maybe just make some of the races more or less human, add a different kind of elf or dwarf, give mana a different name, etc. I don't see this as a bad thing, and while Amalur certainly rips off some gameplay from other RPGs, the combat more than makes up for it. If you haven't done so, go get this game, you'll be doing yourself a favor and helping to ensure there will be more games in the series!

Indeed, FF13 and FF13-2 are the worst games on the planet, so they definatly stand out from the rest
