Well deserved. Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games, I'm glad it gets the recognition it deserves. I hoped L.A. Noire would do better since it was a really good fun game. Though 4 million isn't that bad but no where near Red Dead Redemption's 11 million.

Red Dead Redemption Ships 11M, LA Noire 4M

Take-Two Interactive Software released the sales figures for their two major titles -- Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire -- as part of the quarterly financial results. Rockstar's crime themed action adventure LA Noire did not achieve the same success as the ever popular Western ****shooter, Red Dead Redemption.

The publisher marked $334.4 million in revenue for Q1 2011 (which ended June 30), down 11% from $375.4 million a year earlier).

In 2010, when the company launchedRedDeadRedemptiongarnered far more attention than Team Bondi's crime-solving treat. In fact, Red Dead Redemption shifted 11 million copies to date, according to the publisher. Meanwhile, LA Noire sold 4 million copies so far, as confirmed by Take-Two's chief executive Strauss Zelnick, who is happy with the figures: "It's a great result," he said.

Good for Rockstar, While L.A Noire and Red Dead Redemption weren't the best of games in my eyes a company like Rockstar deserves this, there games tend to be Well developed with a lot of time and effort. :)

Still a modest sucess, most likely a lot of people were put off by its gameplay mechanics.I know one guy who complained that it had bad graphics and thus it would be a terrible game(every time i hear someone say stuff like that i die a little on the inside).

Umm, not to be a stickler, but you can take the dollar signs out of your post. It's 11 million and 4 million COPIES, not dollars, respectively.

Obviously RDR's sales are more impressive, but it's also been out longer and came to greater critial acclaim. Well deserved sales for both games.

Good stuff. I'm glad L.A. Noire is doing well commercially and I'm even more glad that Rockstar own the IP.

Someone really said that? Wow, why would someone be put off by OK looking graphics? I never got that.

Well RDR does have "teh" multiplayer.:P

Honestly though I loved RDR more. I can see why more people would prefer it to LA Noire.:? Hell I've beaten RDR like 6 times and LA Noire twice...mainly for trophies though.:?

You forgot holding down triangle so your partner can drive you across the MASSIVE MAP so you can "Look over the case notes" by which Cole means "Black Out".:P

Riding your horse through the empty west was more entertaining and strangely...relaxing.:P

Jesus Christ it's copies not dollars. $11 million dollars would send the company broke.

LA Noire deserves it. Team Bondi did an incredible job. I really hope Rockstar doesn't ruin the series.

While not the same number of copies as RDR, 4 million still sounds like a lot (something most games these days are lucky to see 1 million of, in the time span LA Noire was out) and yet... Team Bondi was forced to close? How much exactly did this game cost to make, and how could one go broke from that? :/ 4M x 60 = 240 MILLION... What?

RDR is a great game especially with all the DLC and extras.

I've never played LA Noire but 4 million is still very good.

Well with the voice acting Facial Technology and sound editing I can imagine it must have cost quite a fortune. :)

You're forgetting that the publisher takes a huge chunk of the profits, same with the distributors, etc. They had over 200 employees, say with an average salary of $50, 000 AUD (which is not that much) over let's say 5 years which equates to 50 million paid.

I know that it was using new technology, but I still don't believe it could have cost them over 200 Million to make this games. I know Rockstar games are more on the pricey side of things, but I would imagine this game was probably 80 Million maybe almost near the 100 Million mark at most. I could be totally wrong though, but I'm just saying this because it's sad that a new game like this costs so much and yet it brings so little. Now we can see why devs rely on tried and true games with little risks. :(

I understand it's more complicated than that... But I still am curious to know how much exactly the cost for developing this game went to be. I know it's not cheap, because it has some great quality acting, some new fangled tech for the facial animations, and so forth, yet at the same time... I feel that it should have broken even at the very least with that many sales, right?

They're not closing down they still exists within the production company producing the Mad Max remake. Now will that talent go to waste? Yeah, most likely which is sad to say.

I'm guessing it probably did break eve, except without enough money to finance their next project or something.

While I don't think LA Noire will sell quite as many as RDR, it has only been out for three months, as opposed to RDR's fifteen.

Red Dead Redemption benefits from being very much "Grand Theft Horse". It takes the very familiar GTA feel and style and successfully puts it into a western world.

LA Noire has benefits a lot more from having the Rockstar name and great graphics. I enjoy the game but it really feels when I play it more like Heavy Rain than GTA or RDR. And that is because it IS more like Heavy Rain in the sense the game is all about talking to people and "pushing X to beer bottle" as someone once said.

So while the Rockstar name has helped the game sell a decent amount, the game itself quickly lost interest among the general public and just wasn't the usual Rockstar smash hit.

Rockstar is my favorite developer when it comes to games. They take the time and money to craft rich and amazing experiences full of content, polish, emotion and variety like no other developer while also being one of the few developers that purposefully stray from the mainstream popular concepts to things like Westerns and Noire tales and high school hijinx.
