Ive done the first few missions, but so far its boring me to death. Herding cattle, outdated shooting mechanics, cliche western story and setting... Does it get better? For system wars purposes, is this just another lame story driven console game?

The general view is that it gets better...
The thing is, I felt the way you do now, near the middle it picks up, then ultimately just gets old again leaving me not even wanting to finish it. I hardly ever have a problem finishing a game so I personally found the game not worth playing overall. Rental at least though.
It DOES have a slow start.... But, it's an amazing game!Ive done the first few missions, but so far its boring me to death. Pretty much the same for me, it started out slow but once I got the lasso it started to pick up.I liked it a lot. Do you have the lasso yet? That is when it picked up for me.

Yeah...bit of a slow start...when I played it, I was wondering why everyone loved it so much...but keep playing and it'll get better...but the story, I think, is a big reason people like it...
When your working for that lady its a bit boring since your just hearding cows and shooting animals. It gets much better though. Sure was more fun then GTA4 and had a better conclusion to. At least to me.
better than the ballad of gay tony? When your working for that lady its a bit boring since your just hearding cows and shooting animals. It gets much better though. Sure was more fun then GTA4 and had a better conclusion to. At least to me.

[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]better than the ballad of gay tony? GTA IV was better than the Ballad... Luis was such a hypocrite. Wouldint know. Im just talking about the main GTA4 game not the expansions.
I haven't picked it up due to how awful I found Grand Theft Auto 4. AnaleFaustIt is far better than GTA4 (not that I found GTA to be a bad game).
It took to 25hrs and 16 mins to complete the game at 90%How long does it take to beat the games storyline?

15-20 hours maybe? Sounds about right. Depends on how many times you die fumbling with the bad controls really. How long does it take to beat the games storyline?

I plan on pursuing my masochistic adventures by renting this game (I beat games I think I will dislike), but for all I know I might enjoy it.
Too bad people run in and steal the game whenever Blockbuster gets a copy. :c
i love the Old West so i love RDR, i love hunting, doing the random help missions...and the bonnie missions are more of a tutorial as someone stated. the gun fights get alot better...getting new outfits, honestly it takes some patience to pick up pace...
Well I'm going to be honest with you, there is a lot of over hype on these boards for this game. It's boring it has some good moments but they are far outweighed by the fact that just like GTA you just do basically the same missions over and over but in different settings. I will admit it does pick up some once you get the lasso like other people have mentioned, but it gets repetitive really quickly.
Basically if you really enjoy GTA you'll enjoy this game, if you bore with games that repeat over and over then you won't like this game.

It doesn't really get better. I stopped playing it when I got to Mexico because the gameplay is basically like, go here, kill this guy, come back, talk to this guy, etc.
[QUOTE="coasterguy65"]sounds like it should have been rated lower. Actually i don't know if what he said is true. Me, for example. I didn't like GTA4 but i love RDR. And there are people here who didn't like RDR and love GTA4. I believed it got the score it deserved. Play it for yourself if you like it. You know something strong in its genre, but maybe has bugs or slow parts... 9.0 and higher is supposed to be for something that transcends the genre, like mario.Well I'm going to be honest with you, there is a lot of over hype on these boards for this game. Starts off very slow and gets a just little better and stays that way. The entire game was relatively pointless and boring for the most part. Missions and people you meet are more pointless and random than ever. Youll still love the scenery later on in the game. It really draws you in and makes you feel like youre there or want to be there. Has some humorous irony at times. Dont go in with high expectations because you will be disappointed and the game will come to an abrupt stop and you will be like WTF just happened?

Well going by that logic, All of the Halo games should have scored in the 8.0 range. Don't worry about what other people think since you have the game already. You play it and you make your own opinion.
It is an absolutely brilliant game. It captures basically everything that a game about the Old West should be about. If you don't like it, then the game's not for you. I personally am loving all the banal tasks, they are exactly what I've been yearning for in games. Its just another slice of life, not some "epic adventure" to "save the world from destruction." Its just some guy out to save his family and learning to be a better person in the process.
Its a unique game with a perfect atmosphere. I know earlier today when I first got into Mexico, and that tune with vocals started playing, and the sun started setting, and I could see for miles and miles and miles... it just sent shivers down my spine. It was one of those "holy crap, nature's beautiful" moments.

I felt the same way at first cause the tutorial phase is pretty long. It becomes an excellent game pretty fast after that though.
