The vice president of Rockstar Games has revealed that the industry giant was warned Red Dead Redemption would be a disaster ahead of its May 2010 launch.

Speaking toGame Informeron the subject of Grand Theft Auto V, Dan Houser also touched base briefly on the critically-acclaimed westerner.

We love Niko and felt he was a very strong lead protagonist for a game, and we were starting to get into John Marston, he said.

We were still being told a western was going to be a disaster, but we thought we were going [to] make something interesting with a strong character that you started to fall in love with.

Red Dead Redemption, of course, went on to prove a massive commercial success for Rockstar, selling 13 million copies as of February 2012 and achieving rave reviews from critics.

A sequel has been rumored for a while now though nothing has ever been confirmed. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details.

Of course people would write it off based on its setting.

I found the game to be excellent and a wetern fit the open world genre really well. Can't wait for Red Dead 3 !!!

RDR is the best thing Rockstar has done in years. GTA4 was the real disaster in my opinion.

One of the best games this gen and definitely my favourite open world game... I just wish they would make a sequel and not do the same thing that EA has done with Mirror's Edge.

I do think the reviews are a bit too glowing but it's a great game

Though at times it dragged on, the story did have some neat moments. I still prefered Grand Theft Auto 4

Made me glad I bought a PS3 despite being dissapointed with most of the big name exclusives. It was damn well written and very atmospheric. I'd buy a sequel in a instant.

I think R* should lay off the drugs. The game was far from a disaster and is probably one of their best games.

Yeah you don't see many Westernsor ancent Asia based games :(. I would really like more games with the old asian architecture, crazy weaponry, dragons and such, chinese lanterns, bamboo, and so on. I love that theme, but it rarely gets used.

This happens with a lot great things and people in life, the world tells them "No it's not possible, it will fail, you will fail", but if you beleive deep down that what your doing is good, that you believe in it, believe in your dream. Then you prove the nay sayers wrong.

Unfortunatley a lot of people don't think for themself and just listen to what the world tells them. They would rather fit in with a crowd of clowns swimming with sharks than to stand tall alone on the boat.

I find it got boring super fast, but wouldn't call it a disaster. I love the setting, the characters, the story, but man that gameplay was as repetitive a gta 4

Awesome game is awesome. I remember back when it won GOTY here and everybody was pissed off and calling it garbage because they thought Mass Effect 2 deserved to win. Mass Effect 2? Better than RDR? :lol:

I like all these people coming in here without reading past the title.

It's like they just want to be heard without caring about the topic at hand.
