Well im loving the look of the game. THe no blood makes me a little sad,but I can deal. So let me get this straight its basically a reboot? Also did they say or at least hint at a release date?

TheNextOrder

It has virtually nothing in common with the first other than swords and guns. I think I remember hearing it's expected to be out 4th quarter 09. It's already been in development for over 2 years.

Im really dieing for this game. Im actually 1 of the 5 people who liked the first one.

To those whining about cel shading I realise it may not be to everyones taste but please dont assume that it is a lazy option for less technically proficient developers. A perfect example of this would be Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Both, believe it or not, are using the same engine (albeit TP is enhanced) yet even now Wind Waker holds up visually far better than its counterpart on wii and gamecube and will continue to do so while TP looks evermore aged. If the game is able to use its art to create a compelling experiencethat you enjoy then the technique should not matter. Just because a game is cel shaded dosent mean there is any less going on under the hood, if anything it can be more intensive as the developers have less to base their imagery off and must use real creativity. Just look at Eternal Sonata and Prince of Persia for proof that cel shading isnt just for rubbish efforts.

[QUOTE="EmperorZeruel"][QUOTE="IronBass"] Eh... that doesn't make much sense. Cell-Shading is just another type of art direction. Is not necessary easier to programm than realistic graphics (check PoP or Okami).ActicEdge

its easer to do, less polygons, less details. when realism more polygons, more textures, more details. which means more effort

No, its not easy to do cell shading and make it look genuinely good. Few games ever acomplish this. As far as how impressive it makes games look, that's opinion, I find stuff like Muramasa far more impressive than all the generic shooters around regardless of whether they are technically superior. Please don't pass your opinion of deving techniques off as fact becasue youcouldn't be further from the truth.

I agree with ActicEdge. Muramasa's development team is a lot smaller compared to most dev. teams. You don't need high end bump mapping, HDR, textures, ect. to make a game look awesome. World of Goo is also an excellent example of small teams making great looking games.

Personally, I'd choose cel shaded graphics over realistic anyday. Those rendering styles (artistic)hold up longer and are still astheticallly beautiful.

[QUOTE="EmperorZeruel"] well thats the one acception i made, however cellshading ruioned my favorite video game series. Zelda; i havent brought or played zelda since the first time i saw a screnehot for windwaker and thats all because of cellshading..EmperorZeruel

Yes that terrible game that won GOTY totally ruined the series

well zelda 64 is often considered best game of all time., and it had great graphics. to me celshading is just an excuse to be lazy when programing graphics. realism is much harder to accomplish and should be respected for that.

You've never even played Wind Waker (which I think is one of the best in the series, much better than TP) and you're saying that it ruined the series just because it has cell-shading? You're missing out.

Just because KZ2 was good after a bad first installment doesn't mean that Red Steel will be good too. Guerilla really stepped it up with a huge budget and dev cycle that I'm not sure the Red Steel devs will have.

Red Steel 2 has been in development for over 2 years. Red Steel 1 broke over a million in sales on the Wii, and judging by that and what we've seen and heard about Red Steel 2, there's no reason to believe that Ubi has not stepped up their game as well.

So they are about halfway to what Guerilla had, and probably nowhere near the budget. Sales...have nothing to do with my points, and we don't know that the team at Ubi is as talented as the one at Guerilla. I'm not saying it's going to be awful, I'm just saying you can't use KZ2 as proof that Red Steel 2 will be good.

Wind Waker was better than Twilight Princess - In fact it was one of the better Zelda games to come out (the 3D ones).

The two games have similarities in that both of them had dissapointing first outings in terms of quality, but did well in sales spurring the developers to put more into their sequels. I can take one look at the art direction in Red Steel 2 and the fact that they have it locked at 60 fps and tell you that Ubisoft is giving this their best shot, wheraes the art direction and chugging framerate in their first Red Steel was akin to a bad b-level title. Ubisoft is a very capable developer when they want to be.

That probably depends on the hardware and if Open GL supports it natively or not, though I'm not a graphics expert and could be wrong. Cell shading is less hardware intensive too.

Oh, it's certainly less hardwre intensive, but it's harder to create.

The look isn't what I'm so interested in. I just hope they fix the major flaws that the first one apparently had: glitches, gameplay, story/dialogue/voice-acting. I was really keen on it, so hopefully this will turn out better. Since it's using Wi motion plus, and they've had more time to work on this one, I think it may just turn out good. Even if it gets a 7.0 I'll give it a try, especially after Madworld which was great. It does look good though, and maybe the change of direction is a good sign because they're going to the trouble of re-inventing it.

 gotta love the reasoning behind your lack of hype. Obviously, a game based around 1:1 swordfighting would be 100000x better on one of the HD twins..with DUAL STICKS!!!!

No... Have you ever done any 3D modeling or texturing at all in your life? If you have, you clearly aren't very good at it if you think that cel-shading = less effort. Based on your assumption, Disney puts less effort into movies like The Lion King than they did with Bolt.
