so i rented red steel the other day, and i must say, it has a lot of potential as a franchise. they missed the mark on a lot of things, though.
- 1:1 swordfighting: come on, this is a part of the basic premise for this game. if you're only going to do two things, you should at least do them well. i found that merely shaking the wiimote can kill a guy, and something is severely wrong with that. this leads me to my next suggestion...
- it's called artificial intelligence for a reason: i don't know about you, but if i was getting shot at, i would.... i don't know, look for some cover? at least run?
- no shooting gallery elements:Â the guys freaking pop up at you like the haunted mansion. that has to stop.
- online multiplayer: isn't this supposed to be standard by now?
- i want to slice and dice like a ronco product: i hate those stupid "now we must duel" moments. if you come to a gunfight with nothing but a katana, you deserve to be shot. what i want is an uzi in one hand and a katana in the other and rain lead and steel into the hearts of my adversaries. aaaaw yeah. 8)
this is the kind of stuff i thought the game would be when i first heard of it way back in 200X. i was so dissapointed when i played it and shook my head at the missed opportunities ("rushed" is the word that came to mind when i played the game). if red steel 2 comes out and is what red steel 1 tried to be, it would be AAA for sure.
