They gave MGS4 an 8/10...however here are some(theres a lot more) other odd scores they have given in the past:
Halo 1: 8/10
Halo 2: 8/10
Gears: 8/10
Resistance: 6/10
NG2: 7/10
MGS3: 8/10
GRiD: 9/10

They also gave NG2 70 which I though was a tad harsh. The reviewer alsp went on for a few odd paragraph rant about how NG2 was too hard for him.
i'm not defending MGS4 but the reviewer was an admitted hater lol and it still scored an 8
chikenfriedrice
Is that really true? I didn't read the review, but I was shocked to see an 8, then I went see their other reviews, and they just seem to do things diferently lol.

Lol excatly. He knows he'd be severly owned if he gave it any lower.
They are casuals.
They rated Boom Blox higher than Gears and MGS 4.
Uncharted is a good game as well but they rated it a 9/10 signifying it is a better game than Gears which recieved an 8/10.
Eurogamer are jokes and usually try to catch attention by rating truly hyped lower than what they deserve just to see fanboys spin it out of control.

LOL...Yeah no one has ever heard of Eurogamer.. Come on you can come up with better reasons than that
I have, and they're not very consistent with reviews and are way too subjective. They have the credibility of a blog imo.
If you read the review on N4g.com the sites gives pretty good reasons for the 8/10, long and boring cutscenes for one. The sticking point of the review is that this game will not convert new fans like myseft but rather satisfy existing fans.marshall_law_
Like..Halo 3 or Grand Theft Auto 4? They got 10s :|

yeah read the 1st paragraph and he pretty much says that lol but still gave it an 8 so for MGS fans this game should be awesome

Lol yes, he made it more obvious by saying MGS4 was a love it or hate it series. And at the end of the review he wrote "We love you Snake. Don't come back". lol wat?

At least you stated what you think is a good reason for the bad score. The other reason that they are just trying to give a game a bad score for 5 minutes of fame. Come on
Regarding your thread... There's a sticky saying "KEEP IT HERE!"What does "Keep it here" mean?

WOOW what would happen if gamespot gave MGS4 an 8.5?Medic_B
It wouldn't surprise me at all. I'd still buy it and still laugh at haters who hate it just because its on the PS3.
I'f you don't like it cus it's not you're type of game, that's fine.

Its like they spend the entire time praising the game, then at the very end...oh btw it is a "frustrating and fractured" game...8.0.

Well that's pretty obvious, that'd be like saying that anyone going to see the end of a trilogy of movies should be prepared to have already watched the first two otherwise you won't get drawn in and it'll be confusing!
I enjoyed the read. It seems like if you really, really enjoyed MGS3, you will love MGS4. Now I thought MGS3 tried a little too hard to be Teh MGS!, had an unnecessary amount of cutscenes for a relatively poor (and poorly told) story and overall was just too full of itself. Now despite all that, MGS3 is fun and undeniably a good game, and giving it less than 8/10 seems unfair - I think thats whats behind this Review.
I'm guessing the reviewer had more fun with worse rated games, and that he liked MGS but got sick of the way it evolved with later installments, yet still tried to be objective enough and give credit to good gameplay elements and high production value.
It's tough being a reviewer, methinks. Even if you think MGS4 sucks, and you would personally rate it 6 or 7, nobody would take your review seriously. Man, how I hate hype.

Dude that was EPIC. xD CAN'T WAIT FOR MGS4!!!!! It's going to be so friggin good xD
One thing I noticed is that he didn't let hype control him. I think reviewers of MGS4 need to be those that aren't avid fanboys. They need to let people that don't play MGS or have only played though once or twice review MGS4. It seemed like the other reviews released so far were fanboy gushings. I'm getting the game, but damn.MadExponent
Pff, you should probably let a fan of a game rate it than not a fan as most games are aimed at their fans rather than not.

Ya the game is Metal Gear Solid 4 lol. It's rediculous to put someone who doesn't like the series reviewing it.

out of all of the games that you listed, how in the world did GRID get a 9/10?

Or even a fan of the game type.. he seems to be on alot of MMO, cant realy find that many games he has reviewed.
WoW - 10
Mario Kart - 8
some pirate game I didn't bother reading....
If you can find others link them for me please (trying to find out why this guy's word holds so much weight)
I don't see how an 8 is a bad score.
The original MGS was an 8 in here too.
Willy105
*shrug* AAA Gamerankings BUT..it had like a 4/10 from several sources on GR Oo
It's a marmite game.

I agree, i was foolish enough to read this review and clearly the reviewer wears his arse as a helmet
Now i believe not to judge a game before you play it (for alll i know it could be crap) but the reviewer almost seemed to hate it because it was too good.
"There's almost too much going on. With a see-sawing episodic rhythm that visits some starkly different locations and play styles, a wealth of incidental and hidden detail, more gameplay mechanics than you can fully explore in a single playthrough - and above all, an epic, elegiac, arcane storyline that seeks to tie up every last loose thread and honour the passing of a classic videogame hero - Metal Gear Solid 4 is, in most senses, the biggest Metal Gear yet. But the best? Maybe not. If the super-slick thriller of the first Metal Gear Solid remains Kojima's masterpiece, then this operatic monster is his magnum opus."
"Even keen students of Metal Gear lore are going to struggle to follow this tangled tale. Laden with sentimental sermons and metaphors for the evils of war, struggling under the weight of the resolving the plots of four previous games and the personal destinies of characters as diverse as Raiden, Meryl, Naomi, Vamp and Eva, it is in all honesty a mess. Motivation and consistency fall by the wayside and by the end it's totally unclear who is on which side, or what's at stake."
"Design-wise, MGS4 is mostly a refinement of what's gone before. The new gadgets are superb, the weapons are expertly realised and much easier to get hold of, and there are always plenty of options, even if stealth is still usually the best of them. Hand-to-hand combat feels more natural."
"Only the new Stress and Psyche meters don't really gel with the flow of play; we suspect they come into their own in the highest difficulty settings, but at that level, Metal Gear Solid 4 is an exercise in teeth-grinding masochism for specialists only."
"You expect the boss battles to take a starring role in Metal Gear Solid, and the encounters with the Beauty and the Beast team of psychotic femmes fatales in robot animal suits don't disappoint - how could they? All different, all very well-staged, all with a slightly disturbing and mournful edge. But in this case it's actually the early parts of the game's chapters that leave your jaw hanging open with their audacity and invention; it's the Gekko confrontations that strike fear into your heart; it's the visually staggering on-rails set-pieces that provide the biggest bang per buck."
"You're sorry to see Snake go. But should you be? Guns of the Patriots is a frustrating, fractured game that turns Metal Gear Solid's world upside down several times over, but never changes it. It just burrows deeper into what fans love and detractors hate than ever before, and it will make few converts. It's a crying shame, given how many genuinely classic gaming moments there are here, given the countless exquisite creative touches, but Metal Gear Solid 4 is its own worst enemy. You could not ask for a funnier, cleverer, more ambitious or inspired or over-the-top conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series, but it's definitely time to move on.
We love you, Snake. Don't come back."
ok heres how i see his review. It seems to me he is trying to tell us he dosnt like the game (i know 8 is still a good score but its clear he is trying to tell us the game is crap ("We love you, Snake. Don't come back.")) because :
1. the game has too many new features
2. the games plot is too deep
3. there is more than one way to play the game (even tho stealth is usually the best option)
4. the game mechanics have been polished too much
5. the game is too hard on the most difficult setting
But hell heres the part that really takes the cake
" how do you review a new Metal Gear Solid? Do you assess it on its own terms, ones that its legion of fans will understand? Do you play the sceptic, and take Hideo Kojma and his team to task for their stubborn refusal to catch up with what the rest of the world expects of a videogame? "
WTF, does the world expect the same thing over and over again, what do unexpected things scare the world, do clever things make to world confused and infuriated. CMON this review and its reviewer are complete and utter jokes.
BTW i also took the liberty of reading the halo 3 (their holy grail of video games) review. I will not post quotes as this post is long enough as it is but it praises the game for
1. Having a simple story that even the most dim witted individual could umderstand
2. providing a simply gameplay style that dosnt require a brain (point the gun at the enemy and shoot while following a one way path)
3. being pretty much the same as halo 2
I know the games were reviewed by 2 different people but they both seem to share the same mindset.
But that being said who knows mabey gamespot might share Eurogamer's view and if that is so lets hope the developers listen to the gamers instead of the reviewers because if they model their games off what these jackasses want the gaming industry is in a whole lot of trouble
 Holy ****, their review is totally biased. Why do sites let Morons review games, seriously....how did people like him get jobs to review games. They prefer simple-minded games....thats no reason to dock points from a great game. Someone needs to cut his boulz off.
what a surprise. Cows taking offence because a reviewer did not like a game thet they've never played
If he thinks that the game is bloated, the plot is convuluted and the game is not different enough from previous installments then that's his right
He's a better source of information than desperate fanboys like you
