How could the sales of Little Big Planet be a disappointment? In America alone, it sold over 600,000 units in a little over two months. That's impressive for a NEW family friendly IP!
In comparison, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts sold less than 150,000 units in America. While it wasn't in stores as long, I still think that it's a little weak. It's possibly a combination of it not being a true 3D platformer, and because I think that the Xbox 360 market is over saturated with other genres that get over advertised.
Anyway, I haven't played Little Big Planet yet. I'd like to though, it has an innate warmth about it, and that main theme music is just so cool. I bought my first PSP last week (the PSP 3000), so hopefully the rumors of a Little Big Planet for the PSP will be accurate. I think that a good name for the PSP version would be BIG Little Planet. :D
