Remedy are on the lookout for people for a new triple A project. My bet is that it will indeed be the sequel to Anal Wake.

Why? They had already done a prototype in 2011, they had a lot of scrapped ideas, some of them they reinvented for Quantum Break as well as Sam Lake had already drawn out where he'd like to continue the story. They already have the Quantum Break engine so now the development time would've been greatly reduced.

If that was the case, then what would you like to improve in the sequel?

I wouldn't mind a change of perspective so that Alan is a guy who is to be found and we assume the role of some FBI officer.

I would also love if adventure segments during the daytime would be a lot longer and feature a lot more interaction so that we could really feel steeped in the surrounding world and its lore.

This could make the game truly unique and set it apart from generic blockbusters.

Alternatively, there could be a lot more episodes.

I want it to be like a proper whole season of a series.

What is more, I'd like it to feature combat that is about wits and intelligence and not so much pure shooting. To make enemies so weird and enigmatic that you'd have to treat them like puzzles.

I also wish this time they implemented a dynamic weather system and find some cool ways to turn all those forces of nature against you.

But that's just me, what about you?

The best part about Alan Wake was the story and atmosphere. So honestly, if the gameplay was identical, I wouldn't care one bit.

Alan Wake being the title character, narrator, and seemingly writer of the story, makes it, in my mind, essential that he be the player character.

Sam Lake already confirmed a while back that Alan Wake 2 is in development.

Anal Wake? I hope that's not a Freudian slip, because that game sounds amazing! Color me interested, I'll keep my brown eye on this one!

Made me chuckle.

That reminds me of the time when I was storming the trenches, where running from the enemy, I found myself smashing through the backdoors of shop on the seaport (spearfishing for starfish). Just then, they came though, going in the tradesmen entrance.

For safety, I left through a window and took refuge at a local church, where I met with a Catholic priest in the rectory.

Ah memories. These days, I work at a sausage packing factory, but I will always remember those times, which leads me to the time I introduced myself to Margaret, who I met drilling for Chocolate (I was a huge Chocolate Factory fan).

Alan Wake 2 was bound to happen, but MS didn't see the commercial potential for it and rather wanted a new IP from Remedy.

Perhaps they are now surprised by the 'hype' surrounding a AW2 ? I mean at least Spencer listens to the community unlike that previous doofus who was head of Xbox gaming devision.

Another example of this was an employee demanding AOE 2 on Steam, and MS not seeing the business potential in that... Now flash forward to a few years later and we see new expansions for AOE2 and AOM popping up all of a sudden.

I think I'm onto something here...

Alan Wake has sold like 3.1 million units....

That 2010 release, and later bundled with 360s, and late port Feb. 2012 PC version sold some units (many for $1-$3 on discount) looking back now in 2016.

Steamspy: 1,577,045 ± 32,606

Which puts 360 around 1.3-1.5 million sold, 900,000 of that from the Alan Wake holiday bundle.

While steamspy does not track the DRM free copies from sites like GOG we can *infer that the sales breakdown between the 360 and PC is pretty close to 40/60 with PC most likely in the lead with those DRM free copies. Surprised to see the console game sell ~1.3-1.5 million though. It was bundled with a console for a decent amount of time which definitely helped it (close to 1 million were just from the holiday bundle).

*Added clarification on the ~1.3-1.5 million on 360.

Sure, no way to track those numbers so I had to simply note it and guess that Steam made up the majority of the PC sales. There was an unconfirmed report from before the PC release (found it) of Alan Wake that the 360 version was close to 1..3-1.5 million "sold". Doesn't confirm anything since for some reason they just won't come right out and break it down but I felt it was close enough. The report did go on to mention that 900,000 of those sales were from the holiday bundle that the game was included in.

lolcharts puts the game on 360 at 1.3 million.

Hopefully if they do make a second one it's at least partially open world. I'd love to explore the town and the surrounding area during the day at least.

Why the insults?

Why do facts bother you when you speak so much nonsense on this forum without data?

I find your approach, which is misinformation and constantly being owned and corrected by dozens of posters to be far more annoying beyond belief. The potential of spreading misinformation in the hopes people see things in your misguided way.

You failed to acknowledge anything on topic or anything I stated. Instead, you went full ad hominem, which tells me my reply to you was perfect. You posted about Alan Wake sales as did I. Then you got mega upset. No need for that.

It's funny, regarding my real life? Just goes to show how you little you know about a wide range of topics. You can add psychology to the list. I feel you describe yourself because I would imagine your friends would call out your BS all the time, or maybe they just talk about you since they don't want to hurt your feelings. You seem very emotional about gaming.

You aren't going to like this, but I'm the life of the party dude. :P

You have a piss poor attitude when discussing vidya games. Quite depressing. I own two copies of Alan Wake and I've been a Remedy fan before many people in SW even knew who they were.

I just simply commented about Alan Wake, but I could have just quoted you and told you to "shut up" and "Cancer" instead of replying about Alan Wake. It's easy to post insults when confronted with evidence.

The 360 version of AW sold around the 1.3-1.5 million sold after six years, 900,000 of those sales are from the Alan Wake holiday bundle!

When considering making an Alan Wake 2 and selling it for $60 a pop, certainly publishers are going to take notice of the game's performance, especially considering the tail end of the sales were discounted PC sales.

Think about it. Alan Wake 2 was something they already had story and plans for, they just lacked the budget.

So perhaps MS gave them a load of money now to make it ?

MS seems to be all about backing projects these days !

But yeah, old MS didn't even Alan Wake on PC or a simultaneous release.

See, Alan Wake is hot business these days!

Phil Spencer is reading all this internet hype, and already plans to give more cash to Remedy.

Time is a variable. The game sold across two platforms at a discount over the course of 6 years.

More copies sold on the late port PC version, over the 360 version. Furthermore, they were sold at massive discount, something to consider when a company is considering releasing a AW2 $60 sequel.

Nearly one million of those copies sold via a 360 bundle (900,000), which means 400,000ish copies sold on 360 over a long, long period of time. That's not encouraging news.

The user was pointing out the game struggled in sales ON XBOX, and that user wasn't wrong, but he did obviously embellish. Your response spoke of units sold but addressing his Xbox comment, you posted PC + Xbox sales to bolster the Xbox potential sales:

Alan Wake has sold like 3.1 million units....

I simply pointed out how well the Xbox version actually fared since you failed to properly address his point. Instead, you provided misinformation/incomplete information (your are known for that) either because A.) you didn't understand the sales contained were on both PC AND Xbox 360 or B.) you did understand, but you hoped no one would call you out on the BS.

I think after I posted and you insulted me for no reason, it's clear you were hoping your misinformation (the insinuation that the 360 version sold 3 million+ units was incorrect) would stick.

Can the gameplay not be mediocre this time? Can it have some level of variation this time?

If they know what's good for them they'll make it for PS4 as well haha. Bundle with Alan Wake 1 ( easy PC version port)

I forgot to mention that Alan wake while a disappointment is still one of my favourite narratives in gaming. The gameplay while repetitive was still fun. To get the true experience play it on the hardest difficulty and perfect the dodge move. You will enjoy it much more and every fight will feel like a survival struggle and the atmosphere changes to let's just get this done to I must run for my life type of thing. Very difficult but fun too. Love the game overall.

Ooh, shut up, eh? That's not polite.

Why so upset? lol. You don't like being challenged when you post BS? I just pointed out the title released in 2010 and it's 2016. i posted some data. No bigs.

It goes to show what kind of person you are. Clean up your act, kiddo.

BTW: I'm 6'4", I do decent when in a fight, and I work out/train every week; no need to worry, I hold my own, lol. You should worry about yourself. A lot of people don't take kindly to people that they view as liars. Be careful out there.

Back on topic:

The 360 version of AW sold around the 1.3-1.5 million, 900,000 of that from the Alan Wake holiday bundle.

What evidence? You've only confirmed what I originally said and added your useless and completely irrelevant information in tow...

Congratulations on absolutely nothing and trying to be a know it all, top marks...

The game moved over 3 million units, the end.

P.S. Since you're so up your own ass about facts, here's one, it says 900,000 sales were attributed to digital copies, not 900,000 copies from bundles.

Bu...bu..bu..but

That reminds me of another user, no longer here, who got very sour when presented with gaming information...going so far as to threaten users at times. He left shortly before NyaDamageControl joined.

Is it just a hillbilly mentality or what?

Lots of butthurt in this thread. I think we should all start typing in bold just so people know we are special.

I've been posting in bold since before Y2K, and certainly since day one of my account created in 2005. It's now 2016.

It has nothing to do with people thinking anyone's special. If you are referring to the other users, they were trying to troll using tactics I've seen since 2005. They don't have a lot original ideas, I suppose.

It's always obvious when people get upset they start to attack others. There is no need for it.

You are right though, NyaDamage Control is well known for showing how upset he gets when he is owned and exposed with factual information.

This thread was no exception.

Let's get back on topic.

Remedy is hiring for a new project.

I'm not getting my hopes up anytime soon. It's like when you hear NASA launched a rocket for an ambitious mission and it's like "great, someone tap me on the shoulder in a few years when it gets to where it's going". Surely it'll be exciting when it comes out, but until that day.

I kind of wish have stuck with the downloadable XBLA game formula they used for American Nightmare, a short and sweet game based on his writing, since he basically did like Twilight Zone writing they could have really taken his stories anywhere, done anything.

Anyhow, while I'm excited, and am confident they'll do a good job, commercially it's really not that viable of a series, considering that it'll be a good decade between games, many of the fans of the first game probably moved on from gaming all together and a fresh new wave of gamers probably have no idea what it is.

This is definitely true...for sure. Did he learn his lesson with a new account or maybe it's just how some other people are brought up.

"When confronted with facts the prove you are wrong, sonny boy, punch them or threaten violence!" It's just strange coincidence perhaps.
