Remember Sony Claiming PS3 = Super Computer?

Hehe i remember people saying

"And while marketing speak describes the chip as a "supercomputer" - it remains significantly slower than the slowest computer on the list of the world's top 500 supercomputers."

So my PC can run circles around The Cell dose it makeit number 499 in the top 500 super computers lol

Some one look for the one where it said it would take years before PCs can catch up to PS3 graphic wise lol

I also remember George lucas claiming it could do movie like special effects and could do the stuff they are doing on movies real time hehe what happed?

The PS3 is the most over hyped system that failed to live up to every expectation. That is why the PS3 is one of the most hated and laughed at system this gen. Will this backlash continue through its cycle? Only time will tell. Just wait.

MGS 4 still looks close to what Xbox360 can do what happend?? It was built up to take sales away from Microsoft and they have not proven PS3 to be better then Xbox from what they claimed it would be!!

Developers have had plenty of time to make better games but they still look the same to me

All companies talk their systems up to be the next huge thing in gaming. Its called marketing.SpruceCaboose

The initial plan for the PS3 was to have Two cell processors instead of one and more spus. But Microsoft decided to launch their "defective" console early cutting the last cycle short. Which also forced Sony to cut back on the PS3 specs to get it to market. If Sony had another year or two the PS3 would've been insane.

The Ps3 in terms of ORGANIZED computing reaches numbers in the Supercomputing range the only advantage that a PC/360 has over the ps3 is that their architecture Is built around GENERAL processing wich is easier to program and to devop Software for (I.E. Games). The ps3's power can be seen in this Link Now all you people that think your pc can run circles around this think again Compare the 788 Tflops to 174 On the PC. Theese are not individual numbers, but if you want to find them out please do some math.

Now dont give me a bull claim on the games suck What does the title say Hmm?

Well actually, there was one place (i forget if it was a university or somthing like that) that replaced ther super computer with PS3'sEVOLV3

It was a university out in california made a cluster by networking 6 Ps3's.

The PS3 is the most over hyped system that failed to live up to every expectation. That is why the PS3 is one of the most hated and laughed at system this gen. Will this backlash continue through its cycle? Only time will tell. Just wait.

The emotion engine was meant to be the most advanced chip ever as with the cell in reality they where way overhyped and just a pain in the ass to code for.

You can either listen to the TC's rambling, or you can look at this ps3 supercomputer.

Or you can look at this one.

Funny, that last scientist is saving thousands of grant dollars, got his ps3's for free, and no longer has to fight other scientists for use time.

I will admit though that if Ken said that we can experience games in 4D, he has absolutely no idea what the 4th dimension is.

Anyway, you didn't understand what they said about top 500. Cell IS a super chip, but that doesn't mean GPU, RAM, and everything else can't bottleneck it.
