Remember back in the day when gaming was fun, simple, and non gimmicky. There are so many gimmicks today with games, like Kinect, PS3 Move, and the Wii and 3DS. All these games that need some sort of motion picture style story lines. I Remember when you alone or with a buddy have some mountain dews while playing Contra. Those were the days, who else agrees? Contra?

Halo >> Contra.

Anyway, I agree with you. And the one, as we're all aware of, that started this kind of "gaming", was Nintendo.

Power Glove? Virtual Boy? Gimmics have always existed. Not much has changed. Nostalgia = rose-colored glasses.

.

I wouldn't call 3DS a gimmick, and Wii actually has some good games using motion controls. My favourite yet is No More Heroes 2, so well used.

Basically what everyone says. Gimmicks have been around forever and no one is stopping you from playing Contra today.

There have always been gimmicks. Tacking balls, attempts at 3d arcade cabinets, punch-out had these handles you held and punched with, light guns, etc, etc, etc.

Really? You just compared Halo with Contra? You compared one of the first great side-scrolling shooters with Halo? What the hell is wrong with you? Lol

Only on PC??? not at all.

I've been playing RE5 in my PS3 with my friends in local co op, it's a lot of fun.

SSBB also provides a lot of fun with no online and no motion controls.

Those days still exist today, on PC and consoles alike.

And very soon, both Kinect & PS Move will wind up like all of the other failed peripherals &/or add-on's (Like Virtual Boy, 32x, & Power Glove).

When have they ever succeeded when coming very late into a console's life?

Actually, a lot of old school games from the 8 and 16 bit era hold up today (at least in my opinion). I find that the early 3D games don't hold up nearly as well as the older 2D titles. Take Donkey Kong Country vs Donkey Kong 64 for example: the controls are much tighter in DKC and the game doesn't look like a blurry mess (as most N64 games looked). Although some 2D games simply don't do anything for me anymore. For instance: Mortal Kombat 2 seemed like such a great fighter when I was 8... then I went back and played it again and it sucks.

Also, this is post 12345 for me! WOOT!

There are plenty of games about fun and don't rely on gimmicks.

It was just plain garbage. No strap on means you have to have to be in a specific spot to use it, and can cause neck cramps too. Also, due to red and black colors, your eyes get sore after some time of play. Only 14 games, I only played Mario Clash, which is nothing more than Mario Bros. but in gimmicky 3D that added nothing to the game, and b is to jump and a is to shoot, LOL what, shouldn't it be the other way around? The thing died quickly, and I'm glad too.

I can't tell if it's a console or handheld, or maybe it's both, but fails at both as well.

omg. Streets of Rage, all beat 'em ups. Dungeons and Dragons, etc.

Metal Slug was totally awesome.

Contra was overkill, though. i mean, only 3 lives???

and now all we get are first-person shooters. all about destruction and gore. yuck.
