I remember when graphics wars were somewhat interesting though. More than just comparing resolution and AA between games that are otherwise identical.
I agree, most of us care about graphics, I think gaming has matured to a point alot need to see realism in games, or either pixar like graphics for other things.
I do think tho there are many different classes when it comes to peoples taste within video games, See for me I honestly need a story in the game to truly enjoy my experience, but I love my films for the same reason and that's what i want, but it varies

Yeah. That was because developers always had something to bring to the table. Now its like, games look great no matter what thanks to how advanced we've come since the early years.
I remember my brother cheating everytime we played Mortal Kombat and Wrestlemania.
I'd like to corner one of these Graphics Whores and interrogate them Casino Royale style with a big chain instead of a rope. See exactly what going on in that lil nogan of theres.....
Most like its all about "Immersion" !

I totally agree with you man. I'm also really into gameplay and story. I really like 2D type games because even though they are very linear, the gameplay on games like Megaman, Super Meat Boy, Metroid, etc. are really crazy. 3D games are really great too.
Eh graphics never really matter to me that much, i just buy whatever is interesting to me and whatever has a great story.
The best era was when the original Play Station released, that thing was such a massive leap forward at the time that it opened up a whole lot of possibilities that were previously thought to be impossible, that's why the machine had the best games ever as the sheer power it had inspired developers to try things they didn't have the power to do before.
That sheer excited and innovation just doesn't happen anymore and it's a shame.
If graphics didn't matter we wouldn't have what we have today. Everyone would be satisfied moving a little dot across screen solving puzzles as long as the story behind the dot was good.
Early 90s eh? so you remember the genesis DOES what Nintendon't! commercials.
Let's face it Graphics have ALWAYS been part of this console war.
Haha, I do. I also remember all of Sega's commercial having really high energy behind them as well. It was almost enough to make anybody want a Genesis.

Haha, Pong would have more sequels and spinoffs than Super Mario does.
Graphics always mattered. Back then, the golden standard was the arcade version. All other versions tried to match it. The version on the Commodore Amiga tended to come the closest most of the time which is why it was my favorite gaming platform back then.
@-paranorman-: Because there is a major disparity, one of the major games companies has deliberately fallen behind. It's die hards stick up for them rather than demand better.
Graphics back then were rather interesting, to see what was technically possible. Seeing Half Life's 2 physics was mind blowing at the time but now it's nothing to get excited about. Graphics bring this ever evolving experience, like vast and complex AI, realistic physics, and other things that make games immersive.
You know whats nice though..... PC has the best Graphics... People maybe obsessed with graphics but not enough to actually buy/build a gaming PC.... although that might be due to ignorance since many console gamer's knowledge of graphics doesn't go beyond Resolution and Framerate throw Anastrophic Filtering in their face, see if they can wrap their lil nogans around that !
Even as a former PC Gamer I didn't hear about Teraflops until last year.... I still don't know what they are nore do I actually care..... I'm not even into Aesthetic visuals either.... I'l play anything !
I never cared for them with the PS1, PS2 or PS3 but now I see what all the fuss is about after getting a PS4.
To me graphics mattered up until about the PS era. After that, the games had progressed far enough to pull about any genre off.
"Graphics don't matter" is a vague expression that makes no sense.
Graphics always matter, but it can't be the only thing going for your game. If your gameplay sucks, you might as well release an art book instead. One should complement the other. I have no issues going from Crysis to playing Mario Galaxy, as the graphics make sense for the gameplay presented in both cases.
I've been gaming since the 80's and I don't remember a time when graphics didn't matter. The Genesis vs SNES debate was just as hot as the PS4 vs Xbox One we have today. And graphics have always been the focal point of the debates.
Been gaming since pong and from atari forward, graphics have been compared. I remember talking to friends about atari vs intellivision, nes vs matter system, genesis vs snes. So unless you want to go back to a time of no competition with pong, then nope, it's been there.
There has been war about graphics on consoles before PC was even begin to be consider a master race let alone affordable..
This also reminds me of certain hermits who brag about graphics on PC and say resolution matter, but when the topic is xbox one vs PS4 some how resolution doesn't matter taking their inner lemming for a stroll..lol

Graphic wars are going since forever. The first big competition was SNES / Genesis when Sheeps were claiming superiority ( which was true ) on graphics over Genesis.
Then they were claiming they got the most powerful console with best textures etc with N64 over all other consoles .. Nowdays , they are all about how Hardware and graphics dont matter . Mega hypocrites.
Anyways , graphics DO matter and the reaction Sheeps had over new Zelda demo , was mainly because of the updated graphics.period
For me gameplay trumps all and always will. My 3 fav games of the last few years? Football manager, Crusader Kings 2 and FTL. Suck on it graphic whores.
I remember how I did not care about graphics during the last three gens, but now since the all-powerful PS4 has been released, they matter a lot.
It's interesting to think back about how things change over time. Just like how only idiots would have payed to play games online last gen, but now I don't have a problem with it or how important sales were during the PS1 and PS2 gens, but then suddenly stopped being important last gen because I can't play sales, but have now become even more important than having games since the PS4 was released.

False argument. No one says that graphics don't matter at all. What they and I am saying is that it isn't the most important factor.
And if you were honest with yourself while hauling pass for the newest game with better graphics, you would recognize that whether or not you actually liked that new game and were still playing it a week later was dependent on gameplay, etc. We have all chased shiny things that have turned out to be polished turds.
Graphics add a lot to games that would still be great with outdated graphics, like Uncharted or The Last of Us. They don't really do anything for a game like AC4 or Crysis 3, though.

dude, you're a mass of nonsense and butthurt. lol
PS4 has games. PS3 had games, it was more powerful than the 360 and it sold just as good. PS2 came out nearly 2 year (2 YEARS) before the Xbox and GC. And for those years PS2 was even more powerful than pc. PS1? The same.
