I remember the day when Half life 2 and halo 2 Come out around the same Time and they were being Compared Quite a bit as to which one was better, LMAO I just dont think xbots Realised at the time just how good half life 2 was, It wasnt just better But Half life 2 is considered a gaming masterpiece that can even Hold it's own by todays Standards and Halo 2 well I played it on PC last night and that game is total generic Rubbish, Bad level design and **** AI, It really made me Wonder why The game is such a hit, Because the single Player in Halo 2 is really Not good at all.

So looking back on Half life 2 vs Halo 2 Today it's not even close Half life 2 is the better game By a gaming mile.

I like how you describe Halo 2. Reminds me of another game, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

It was...at least IMO..the mp component of HL2. Now if we are simply comparing single player, I still had more fun in HL2, it just felt like a meatier campaign to me. Now keep in mind I DEFINITELY enjoyed halo 2 as well. I just don't understand why you feel like halo 2 had better value, but feel free to explain :D. I know this is shocking for system wars, but I actually like to hear other peoples opinion \:o

Half Life is recognised as one of the finest titles of the medium.

Halo 2 is recognised solid sequel is a mess of a singleplayer campaign, but strong multiplay.

Even in 2004, it soon became clear which game was better.

Counter Strike Source was bundled with Half Life 2 (and Half Life 2 deathmatch followed it). Of course you cannot ignore the huge amount of modifications and user created content for Half Life 2, as an extension of its 'value'. Which is why the game is still installed on my HDD.

That's a matter of opinion. I thought halo2's campaign was much better than half-life2's. About halfway through hl2 I got tired of all the "hey, look what else our physics engine can do" tech demo elements that felt really out of place.

Easily; multiplayer. Halo 2 had a multiplayer component; it was one of the best multiplayer shooters last generation. That and the campaign can also be played through cooperatively. Counter Strike Source was not the multiplayer component of Half-Life 2. They're completely seperate games.

Think of it like Halo 3: ODST. ODST has a full-fledged singleplayer and a horde mode -- but -- it also comes with a seperate disk, Halo 3's multiplayer in full. That second desk is completely and utterly seperate from Halo 3 ODST, but still comes packaged together with ODST.

Indeed, both of that is true. Still doesn't change the fact that Counter Strike Source is independent from Half-Life 2. Also, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch came out later after the release of Half-Life 2, it wasn't available until some time after launch down the line.

So what if its seperate? Its still the in the inherent value of purchasing HL2, which exceeds Halo 2, which has a laughable multiplayer in comparison.

That is true. While Half-Life 2 blows away Halo 2 in storyline and gameplay, the overall online experience is what Halo 2 has over Half-Life. Without it, well...let's not think of it, shall we ;)?

We're comparing Half-Life 2 and Halo 2. We're NOT comparing Counter Strike Source and Halo 2. How about an analogy. Say we're talking about which game has a better multiplayer -- Killzone 2, or ODST. Should ODST win because it comes with Halo 3's multiplayer in full on a separate, independent disk? No. No matter how superior Halo 3's multiplayer is to Killzone 2, the comparison was between ODST and Killzone 2; and thus, Killzone 2 having the better multiplayer component.

"Laughable multiplayer"? ... :?

Unless you got it on Steam a fair bit after release, you would have had some sort of multiplayer with Half-Life 2. Whether that be CSS which it was released with it in the same box or TF2 in the Orange Box, you're getting awesome online and single player either way.

Everything is a matter of opinion. And my critical opinion, be it of pacing, level design, or the game design itself, let alone the driving narrative force, was that Halo 2's was sup par compared to its expectations, and compared to its predecessor. Bungie admitting they had "screwed up" solidifies this notion to me. HL2's critical praise speaks for itself, my own opinion aside.

while Halo 2 was good fun, HL2 could be considered one of, if not the best, sequel in gaming history. Not to mention all the mods that have spurred from the game itself. HL2 defines the word Epic. Ahh, 2004, what a great year looking back.

the above is IMO of course..

Halo2 has the critical praise as well. The bungie screwing up you're referring to is them essentially remaking the entire thing from scratch and then running out of time to tack on a proper ending. Both games were panned for their poor endings.

Gotta love how PC elitists hav to drag CS into it two games VS one.

Yeah good job guys. Lets compare it for what it is;

HL2 CAMPAIGN vs H2 CAMPAIGN: HL2 wins hands down.

HL2 DEATHMATCH vs H2 Multi: H2 wins hands down. HL2DM is pretty much dead when i played, lots of servers just mostly empty. Rubbish to play too. H2 still gets 100k or so a day.

Yeah I'd say there fairly evenly matched even to this day. PC Elitists will *never* accept that but it hardly matters. It's a reality.

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch was a separate product not packaged with HL2, Counter Strike: Source was. There's the argument. ;)

And yet Half Life 2 beat Halo 2 out for the FPS GOTY that year. That's because it was the better FPS. Read the GameSpot review guide if you thinking comparing scores like you just did is suitable.

Do people still play Halo 2 MP? Because I still see plenty of people playing HL2DM.

CSS doesn't not equal HL2 since now you have to buy them separately.

Define plenty. People played Halo 2 from day one all the way to Halo 3. It was one of the most played shooters and a big part of competitive/pro gaming.

i personally think hl2 is the most overrated game of all time. i mean, yes it is good. but by no means like the best fps ever. i had way more fun playing halo 2 multiplayer with my friends than hl2. and yes, halo 2's single player was dissapointing. especially compared to how good halo:ce was.

Both are excellent, but all Half-Life 2 had was single player, which was suberb, but I believe Halo 2 had a much better value.

Yes actually. Halo 3 has majority of the Halo community(big Duh), but Halo 2 is still solid. I think Bungie.net still keeps track of Halo 2 stats.

Except Half Life 2 was released with CounterStrike Source and Half Life: Death Match. It more than justified its price tag and "value"

There really is no point debating which is better HL2 or H2, or any game for that matter, all you can debate on are objectives but in the end it all comes to personal taste besides a Halo fan will vote for Halo and same goes for HL.
