More then I want to pay for one. I'd like to know what the differences are between each model. I have no plans to pay over $500 for a game console. Over $400 is still to much. After taxes and an extra controller, but a couple of games, you're pushing almost $700. No tell what Sony's online subscriptions will be like.

$430 is such an odd price point wtf.

On that point Dark Souls 2 better be on ps4/720. If not I will probably hold off buying the next gen consoles until price drops.

[QUOTE="blackace"][QUOTE="Badosh"][QUOTE="blackace"] Well, I own a XBox 360 and my IQ is high enough.

Doubtful.

I work for IBM and have owned IBM stock for over 12 yrs. I doubt nothing. Doubt yourself before you doubt others.

There are different jobs at IBM. They range from head Artificial Intelligence Engineer to basement janitor. Just because you work at one of the top engineering and R&D firms doesn't mean your IQ is high.

Still to much for me. I have a set price of what I want to pay for a game console and handheld. Some gamers have no problem paying $500-$600 for a game console, but most do. Which is why the PS3 sales were terrible until the PS3 Slim launched. You question my judgement, but the proof is already out there. blackace

I am not doubting that the "lone high priced SKU" business model is dumb. But as long as they throw out a low end sub-$450 SKU for the console and no competitor releases significantly cheaper they'll be fine. My initial post was just to state, quite plainly, that I will buy the premium model. To each his own, no reason for debate here.

source says two models of new platform launching this holiday season in US; gamers will be able to control system with smartphone.

The PlayStation 4 will launch in the United States this November starting at $430, a source has told Kotaku. A second model will also be available for $530, this person said, though this is not set in stone. Pricing at this level falls in line with a past report, which suggested the system would sell for $400+ at launch.

Bad move, SONY. Microsoft could make the starting price $199 with an $80 monthly payment for 2 years and it would crush the PS4.

I wouldn't put it past me. Most people are only interested in what they pay upfront, not the hidden costs. This is going to drive Microsoft's quarterly profits to $1 billion for the xbox division. Good thinking, Microsoft! I can't wait to buy it!!!

^ ^ With such a sad username I expect nothing less from you.

So what are you going to do if SONY goes under? Neither Microsoft nor SONY are charities. They have to be financially solvent for them to continue making games. If SONY's current plans to flood the industry with mediocre, half-assed games aren't working or turning much of a profit, it's time they changed their strategy, don't you think?

I'm not a business man and I don't give a $hit about the money that these companies make. All I care for is games. If Sony goes under I'll move on to PC like I did when Sega died. I don't pay for mediocre experiences because I have a fanboy love for a company, I go where the games are.

Perception is more important than reality when it comes to making profits. $199 with an $80/month contract sounds more pleasing than $430.

$430>$600. For what you're getting with the next gen consoles, I think $400 is a fair price.

Well, I own a XBox 360 and my IQ is high enough. The average intelligence for Sony's consumer base and probably similar to Microsoft's. Microsoft subscription deal is for the birds. They expect someone to buy an XBox 720 for $300 and then pay $40-$50 a month for 2 years of online services is ridiculous. You'll pay well over $1500 for that crap. You're better off buying the $500 system and 2 years of XBL for $120, which is still overpriced to me.

Agreed. IMO sell it for $200, with the subscription being $30 a month for one year. Total $560, but not all at one time. That I'd go for.

They would likely do $10-15/month over 2-3 years with an extra charge for ending your payments early. MS would want you invested in their product longer rather than shorter. After 1 year, then you could go and sell if yourself, and then MS would make no money off that console. A subscription fee prevents there being any sale of used consoles for at least a few years

Gaming companies that were primarily invested in PC gaming. IE. Valve, Blizzard, EA, etc. All of them are now whoring themselves out to the consolites. Microsoft will win the gaming war. I look forward to the healthy profits I'll make from the Microsoft stocks I own.CallOfDutyRulez

You realize that they had to be PC exclusive initially, in order for them to count, right? Even Valve has released most of their titles with consoles since day one. Hell, Half-Life was released for the PS2.

If they are not an  exclusive  publisher, why label them as solely a "PC publisher"?

Yeah because a $170 price drop on the launch model 7 years later is the same thing.

It's actually a S69.99 drop compared to one of the PS3's launch models.

That would work for some people who don't want to pay so much up front and can enjoy the systems for the first year with money still in their pockets. I probably wouldn't do it though, but gamers strapped for cash would. At least it's not $1500+ over 2 years.

That sounds fair.

Hopefully they throw in a game or something also. That would be perfect. Its only 80$ more than the WiiU!

WiiU needs to drop to 250$ asap

good. No matter what price (unless its 600$+) people will buy it, why? Cuz WiiU isn't for gamers and from the known rumors 720 is a joke. Sony is rdy to print money

Yes and $530 is way too much for my wallet. I want the best model, but I won't pay a fortune for it. I don't think any game console should be over $400.

Way too much for your wallet? A fortune?

We are talking about $530 here, right? :|

Still to much for me. I have a set price of what I want to pay for a game console and handheld. Some gamers have no problem paying $500-$600 for a game console, but most do. Which is why the PS3 sales were terrible until the PS3 Slim launched. You question my judgement, but the proof is already out there.

Are you out of your mind? That would cost over $2000 lol

Agreed. IMO sell it for $200, with the subscription being $30 a month for one year. Total $560, but not all at one time. That I'd go for.

That would work for some people who don't want to pay so much up front and can enjoy the systems for the first year with money still in their pockets. I probably wouldn't do it though, but gamers strapped for cash would. At least it's not $1500+ over 2 years.

My thoughts to - $30 a month for one year only would work well and they could probably sell the system at cost rather than take a loss. But I'm not paying $500 bucks upfront and I'm not paying much over that for a gaming system. Like I said, $200 up front, $30 a month for one year = $560. System paid for. But as for the original post, if the PS4 sells for 430 thats a sweet sop IMO. I'm not buying one, but for PS fans it feels like a good price.

You mean Valve, the company that owns Steam? EA is almost exclusively a multiplat publisher.  And Blizzard goes both ways, but mostly focuses on PC.  They do have a pretty popular PC game, it's called WoW, there are something like 9 million subscribers.

lostrib

Indeed. Companies have gone multiplatform because of the PS3's massive failure. Had PS3 had a 75% console market share, I'm sure many of the console 3rd party publishers would never have made games for the 360 or the PC. Developing for 1 platform alone isn't enough to cover the costs anymore. With SONY out, Microsoft will command a 90% share on the console market. When that happens, previous 3rd party console publishers will come back to console exclusivity. PC publishers will realize how much pirating has destroyed PC gaming profitability and they'll move to focus more on releasing xbox exclusives. I can't wait until that day comes. My stocks are ready.

You are a special kind of stupid.  EA has always been a multiplatform publisher.  And valve's console ports werent originally even on the PS3 this gen.  And how many stocks do you own, because I highly doubt you will earn much of anything.  And you're probably too stupid to diversify.

LOL... Is the cow butthurt that he doesn't own Microsoft stocks? It doesn't matter if EA has always been a multiplatform publisher or not. My point is that PCs will lose their exclusives and there will be no more PC ports once SONY is out.

I would gladly pay those additional hundred dollars just for BC but it will probably be just a bigger HDD... Like if we wouldn't be able to upgrade it ourselves and for cheaper.
