Okay, we can officially kiss Resident Evil 6 goodbye. Well, that only goes to all old-school Resident Evil fans as they will be utterly disappointed by Capcom?s decision to use a regenerating health system. Yeap, you read that right. A health regeneration system in a horror game. Yeah, Resident Evil 6 is not as horror centric as its predecessors but still, this is the first time we?ve seen such a health system in a Resident Evil game.

This health regeneration system was revealed via the game?s X360 demo - that was released a couple of hours ago - and we are shocked that it has not been brought to everyone?s attention this whole time. So, how does it work? Player has a number of boxes for health. Each and every hit, ?damages? those boxes, meaning that the player will either have to be careful or find a corner to regenerate the box. If a box gets completely damaged, the player will have to use a herb in order to reclaim it.

It?s the similar health regeneration system we?ve seen in ? pretty much ? every other third person action shooter. This also proves that Capcom is willing to say bye bye to the game?s roots. Of course the PR team will rush in and claim that the title retains its horror elements. That?s their job after all. However, this health regeneration system shows what?s the game?s main focus actually is.

Eww. Do not want.

There's absolutely no reason to try to force health regeneration into the RE formula.

I don't know how horror oriented it will be, but this says little to nothing.

Sounds like the same thing used in the first resistance. I liked the way R1 did it and ill enjoy this system in RE6. Also im sure capcom will announce an "old school" difficulty setting so i wouldnt be to worried. Youll just have to wait for the RE6 Super gold edition to play it like that.

Not really a problem for me. Still gonna borrow from a friend at some point. I don't really see myself buying RE6 with all the stupid s**t Capcom keeps trying to pull.

Haters gonna hate.....

I think RE6 will be good. It has different characters all with their own unique settings and story, and they have different focuses. For instance Leon is just trying to survive at any cost, then you have that other guy (Weskers son I believe) who seems more like a brawler or something, only Chris Redfield looks like a pure action game. I noticed they toned him down a bit, doesn't look like he's on steroids anymore.

Give the game a chance bro.

Strange alot of people were saying Resident Evil 6 would be a return to old school RE because of Leon's Sections... Saw someone playing the demo today on stream and when Leon ran out of ammo he just beat the **** out of all the zombies which barely did anything to him in the first place. This game will suck for anyone who doesn't want an action game.

I hate these roads that both Dead Space and Resident Evil seem to be heading down. I guess I'll have to depend on TLoU for anything close to a survival horror fix.

Resident Evil is officially dead to me now. It was on life support after 5 but I'm pulling the plug.

Survival Horror has 2 essential elements IMO:

1) sparse ammo and health

2) HORROR

From what little I've seen of RE6 it looks like more of a generic third person action shooter.

Based off of some people's reactions in this thread, it seems like they are wanting something like TLOU. You guys should give that a try when it comes out, it's using many of the things you are saying, like no health regeneration, scarce ammo and resources, intense cat-and-mouse game play with enemies that hunt you down ect....

Not horror but it was a survival game.

Herbs weren't common, ammo was scarce, save points felt like they were hours away.

Now you're pretty much in a greenhouse there's so many herbs. When I played through RE5 I felt like I had unlimited ammo and I believe there was a checkpoint system. I never played 4 because I didn't like the direction the series was going and by the sound of it, 6 won't be going anywhere near my PS3.

I still remember my fight with the boss "It" in RE4 when I fought for the first time. I literally unloaded every single clip of ammo I had in it praying that that shot would be the one to kill it. I was on the edge of my seat as I kept blasting it while using up the last of my herbs. Even I was happy I beat it, I was left with next to no ammo or herbs so I was pretty f***ed if something attacked me on my way to the next area.

That's the stuff I'm looking for in these games.

Perhaps.

I don't see what that has to do with RE6 not being a Resident Evil. From what I've heard/read RE4 still kept that sense of survival at least.

Something that was missing from 5 which is why people weren't happy with it and that's only going to get worse with regenerating health. Regen shouldn't be in ANY game, especially one that used to be a "survival horror" game.

Ehh I never once ran out of ammo in 4, and I didn't use it sparingly. It was definitely more action than survival. But since you don't want regen in any game, then maybe you won't enjoy the game even if somehow turns out to be the best in the series. :P

But yeah, RE isn't the go to series for survival horror anymore. You should try Amnesia.

TLOU is FAR from 90% cut scenes and it's not scritped at all. They played a back stage demo that was different from the E3 game play, same setting but very different. They encountered different enemies in different areas and had a totally different experience than what they showed at the E3 coference.

The human AI is brutal and VERY intelligent, they are saying it's the best AI in game history. I can't wait to see what the infected are like, they are very rare and will not come across them very often, but I bet they are even more intense.

Well you can't regenerate to full health. I think it's more of a way to prevent starting with 1% health from a checkpoint or something.

StealthMonkey4

It kinda was though, sure it might have not been the scariest of games to play but it did have an intense atmosphere, the feeling that at any moment that something is going to happen but never knowing when. And in the scenes of destruction, dead bodies lying around, messages written in blood on walls and boarded up windows, add in the music and sound effects just added more to the atmosphere. And this is not even taking into account that you had a limited supply of resources.

Sure it looks dated now but back then, that was some scary stuff. And the remake was pretty scary, sure a lot are going to say they didn't find it scary at all. But I did find Resident Evil 1, 2 and the remake to be pretty scary for their time.

PhazonBlazer

Feels like it. The worst part is staying with the same characters and story. They should go back to making you alone in a city during a zombie apocalypse, fleshing out new characters. Chris, Leon, Ada Wong, etc, should all be in mental institutions after their experiences - it's just silly at this point.

Thing is, companies just aren't making surivial horrors these days, and the ones that try fail (except Amnesia, 0bviously). Silent Hill Downpour was so lame I didn't even bother finishing it. I liked Homecoming a lot more, and that game wasn't exactly a masterpiece (the last hour was fantastic though). It's kinda depressing...

I don't know why your uspet, I was joking. That's why I put the :P sign.

I have no issue with you bro, I think your funny sometimes and you play Skyrim so your cool in my book.

Here you can read about the full backstage 17 minute demo yourself:

E3 2012: The 17-Minute Last of Us Demo - IGN

As you can see, very different from the E3 demo. The game play is not scripted nor is it full of cut scences. I don't know where you got that impression from.

I'm still willing to try this game, I'm just not expecting it to be like other Resident Evils.

Oh my god. I already firmly believed that Resident Evil 6 would be the worst big budget release of the year (maybe this gen) based on what was shown at E3, but this news actually managed to lower my expectations for this game some how. This game is just going to be terrible in every way won't it... What's wrong with Capcom? I've never seen a company try so hard to give fans of their series the exact opposite of what they want.

I feel like the managers at Capcom are clueless on what people want.

TopTierHustler

What do we want? Re4 was so friggin' good, Re5 was so goddamn boring and well... I'm not gonna even write what I think about the classic RE games. :P RE4 was nice because you could plan out your strategy while you fiddled with the inventory, mixed herbs etc. Re5 took that away, so if they continue with that clunky "quick" inventory BS I take health regen over herbs any day.

Wow, just wow. Health regen is one of the worst mechanics to pollute this generation of games. It only works well in very limited applications. These days it's in any game with guns. But I guess we shouldn't expect any less from the worst company in the industry.

Stopped reading when it said "horror title".

Resident Evil 6 isn't a horror title. The series stopped being horror centric at 4.

Resident Evil was never horror game, it was action/adventure.

StealthMonkey4

Of course it wasn't because there is no such thing as a horror game genre. There are games that have horror based themes and stories, but horror isn't a gaming genre.
