Leon is horror.
Chris is dude-bro action.
Mercenary is kung-fu melee that has no god damn place in Resident Evil.
Looks kind of like both, but action at its core. I'm hoping Leon's side has some parts of an adventure-styled game in it like the original RE.
Chris was in the original resident evil wasn't he? That wasnt exactly dude-bro action.... Personally I dont like the look of RE6. The last good RE too me was 4. It had a nice combination of horror and action. I am hoping revelations will be good.Leon is horror.

Honestly play Silent Hill for scares. Resi is a hybrid of both.OB-47Hell even Silent Hill has been on the action bandwagon for years now, and even when it does try to be scary they tripped up by making the only scares telegraph themselves 10 miles away (Shattered memories). Resident Evil doesn't have a shred of scary in it at all, if it's a horror game then so is Gears of War.
But Silent hill is crap now.Who cares. Honestly play Silent Hill for scares. Resi is a hybrid of both.

Honestly, and objectively what makes Resident Evil so great now for all these people? I wouldn't ever know.

It is a bit more scary than GoW. I mean those are just monsters. But yeah Resi ain't scary no more. But do I care? When Resi 4's gameplay was so good I didn't really. And people have Revalations anyway for their scares.
Seems like Resi is really branching out as a franchise

Action: RE6

Seems like a good time to be a fan of the franchise to me

Not to me, though. And I've been with this series since 1998.Well sure the traditionalist may not be happy, but an old school Resident Evil wouldn't really sell in the modern world sadly. Just try Revelations, all the fans have been saying it's a decent horror (though if the demo is an indicator it wasn't scary at all)

Resident evil was never really scary to me, it was always more keeping on my toes for a zombie might be lurking in the shadows and preserving what few ammo I have and using it wisely. So I think I'll be satisfied with Revelations. Not to me, though. And I've been with this series since 1998.[QUOTE="Salt_The_Fries"][QUOTE="OB-47"]

I wouldn't say I'm a traditionalist at all but I don't like half-assed changes, especially when I know there are ways to reinvent yourself and implement old elements in totally novel / different way, but no, Resident Evil abandoned some stuff for good because its makers were too narrow-minded and too money-hungry. I know the traditional survival horror wouldn't sell now, but to me Dead Space 1 & 2 are better in every single imagineable way and represents an ideal marriage of action, tension and mood you can achieve in these times where you have to appeal to as broad audience as you can. And I never found Resident Evil scary, but I very much liked its lore, plus the atmosphere was creepy and eerie, accentuated by really fitting music. The games themselves were kind of modern gothic.Chris was in the original resident evil wasn't he? That wasnt exactly dude-bro action.... simomate
It wasn't?
I mean, maybe that doesn't qualify as dude-bro, but from its opening scene the series has always had campy B-grade action movie appeal.
So I think the new game fits right in, whatever direction it ends up taking.

why do the dogs sound like dragons?
It's easy to pin point what survival horror games are. Games that frighten the players in various ways, in which you're screwed on the offensive side because you need to survive somehow. Silent Hill, Amnesia, Penumbra.
Resident Evil 5 is action - horror. The 6th itteration, judging from what i've seen, will also be the same.

If it wasn't for RE4, gears wouldn't be the game it is today. ask cliffy B. If anything Resident Evil can use a coversystem. Something Gears ripped from killswitch. Get over the whole originality thing...ideas can be used and borrowed as long as it works. Cover system is something standard anyways. It's Gears of Evil 6. Get it right TC.

I think most gamers forget how bad the original RE was when it came to story telling and even gameplay in some areas (Anyone remember "Tank Controls"). Part II was much better, but suffered from 5-6 hr gameplay. I guess there really is no pleasing some people.. :?
Leon's sections look like survival horror, Chris's look like Gears of War, and the other guy looks like a beat 'em up.

Leon's part looks like action horror while Chris's looks like pure action. I'm hoping the new guy's part is closer to survival horror but I'm sure they'll mess that up by giving him superpowers or something.
Resident Duty 6: Evil GearsElann2008what is your point? every game is a copy of another in some way. Let me see you do something original. RE4 alone influenced an entire generation...and that's a fact. Shut up.

majority of RE games are really really short if you know what your doing.
I'm in the same boat.[QUOTE="fabz_95"]I like both to be honest, I enjoyed the older REs, I love RE4 and think RE5 is pretty good too.timmy00
Im on the boat that thought RE4 & 5 were ok at best. I still would take the older ones over them any time of the day though.
I think the only real survival horror games this gen are amenisa: the dark descent, ikenie no yoru (night of the sacrifice), and maybe zero: tsukihami no kamen (fatal frame 4). all 3 games are incredible, but I've yet to beat fatal frame 4. The rest seem to be action/horror.
