Could RE7 be a killer app for PSVR?

I'm not 100% sure about this but isn't it the first full game to take advantage of VR? That would make it the winner by default ya? Full games trump minigame whackadoodle every time methinks. Especially a full game of this quality.

Capcom has a knack for finding ways to take advantage of these peripherals it seems. I own every iteration of RE4 (sad, I know)but the Wii version is still the one I play the most because of how awesome the motion controls work with it. In fact, that's my favorite iteration of RE4 period.

Good point. RE4 made some of the best use of the Wiimote. And RE7 made the best use of VR.

Well I guess the series is dead to me because Capcom will milk the hell out of the first person perspective. I don't like first person games the perspective has boring gameplay. As a older gamer I prefer different gameplay styles. I've played so many first person games over the years I'm totally sick of them. I don't mind first person multiplayer once in a while but in single player I absolutely hate it.

Yes...you can exclusively throw up playing it on PS4 thanks to PSVR.

Sorry bud, but you are wrong on this one, the game is supposed to be incredible in VR.

You're misinterpreting things, kid.

VR unfortunately greatly affects those with motion sickness and RE7 VR has a lot of jerky movements, player controlled or not.

That is what he means by throwing up while playing it on PSVR.

On topic: I'm also glad this is turning out well for Capcom. They really needed a winner since their other games such as SFV suffered so much from a botched release.

@jg4xchamp: Yeah the marketing for RE7 wasn't that great. I've only ever seen youtube ads of it.

I want a game like it but with ghosts, like P.T.

Ghosts are the only things that still manage to scare me. Monsters and zombies just dont do nothing for me. Thats why I found Amnesia boring and not scary at all...

P.T. on the other hand... *shivers

Just finished it. And it's pretty good although a bit short. Finished it in 11 hours with full exploration.

Most reports I've seen say you can't play it for more than a little before feeling sick.

That's cause it's not a game for girly men or lems. TLHBO.

So then why they release it on PSVR??

Apparently that's where all the Girly men are......

I'll pick it up for sure some time, but I'm hoping this is a one off and they can pedal back to third person for their next mainline game, and really get back to horror roots. The game has too much of the hide and seek horror gene in it for me to support it up front as I despise it, and I think that that sub-genre of horror has completely tainted the pool, mostly to appeal to the youtube screamos in horror games. I can accept that they exist and can co-exist with the rest but devs seem to be chasing it like there's gold at the end of the stick and it's saddening.

it may seem hypocritical of me to also praise PT both now and in the past after stating that but it was an 'experience'(which actually didnt involve hiding at all) to lead into what would have been a third person horror game with Norman Reedus character model(so you knew it wasn't going to be first person).

All I can hope for is Evil Within 2 be announced to carry the torch. Future looks dim for third person horror though.

WTF are you blabbering about? you call youtubers out, yet here you are basing your opinions of the game off of youtube.

I am a good 2/3rds of the way in and I have hid from an enemy around 2-3 times no more. i have no idea WTF you are watching but it doesn't match my experience with this game at all.

I don't see how me watching the marketing for the game on youtube, specifically, means I can't criticise the audience it may be aimed at that happens to be ON youtube....what would you have me do? Download marketing and dev gameplay videos through torrent from gamesyde or something? It'd make no difference, they'd be the same videos....

I'm glad to hear that though regarding the bold. Maybe it's still the initial switch in perspective and the total dulling down of combat that's souring me as this makes the game have more in common with hide and seek first person horrors than either resi 1-3 or 4-6.

Guess I'll force myself to take a chance.

Play the game for yourself? Of course the youtube stuff is going to be showing people screaming and jumping, that is what works and it sells games.

Hell the whole "reaction" vids thing is a joke. For example a number of bands and musicians i like that i follow on youtube have started popping up as reaction vids in the "suggested videos" section of my youtube. some clown who calls himself "weeaboo reacts" keeps watching music videos and giving his comments about them, see below.

300,000 + Views. Now WHO THE F*** is watching this fool? who cares what he thinks? some people are for sure. so its no surprise that capcom and others will target this sort of audience.

But anyway, back to Resi7, I enjoyed Resident Evil 4 and did not like 5, i haven't bought a capcom game since 5 until a week ago today.

Resident Evil 7 is very creepy and scary (less so now i know what to expect from it to be fair), i am by no means a horror fan, i don't watch horror movies or play horror games. I guess you can call into question my experience with the genre, but i know that something is creepy when the hairs on my arms start sticking up...parts of the

here is a marketing video for "rings", this would scare the shit out of me, but i wont be watching the movie, so it doesn't always work:-

Well yeah, that's the obvious choice but that does also mean putting down money, which is the main decision on any of these things and whether it's worth it. So before I can open myself to the full game I'm gonna have nothing but the marketing and the dev previews to go on. Just to clarify, I haven't used any of the screamo face cams to actually formulate my initial opinion but even from the demo it had the vibe it was more tailored to THAT area of youtube, because of the similarities with games like amnesia and outlast.

In full agreement on the whole react thing in general. You hit the nail on the damn head there.

4 is still the sweet spot for me. Take out the QTEs, the OP melee actions and nerfing the equipment upgrades would have been my path to follow after 4, but 5 and 6 just started edging the wrong way until 6 went full on derp. I think I borrowed 5 and totally skipped 6. Perhaps it's my disappointment in Capcom's decision to 'spice' resi up fell on what resi 7 is today instead of building on resi 4 with lots more influence from the first 3.

Ah that's interesting then. Is it more contextual jump scare(as in you turn around and antag is there, etc), or constant foreboding unstoppable enemy scare?

I am not far into the game and it's not bad, but right in the second act where you're at the dinner table being force fed, then have to escape the crazed dude, it got boring. I don't dig games where you have no weapons and have to play round table cat and mouse to avoid being caught. I really hope the rest of the game is not like that.

Ok, we differ there in that I will usually 9 times out of 10, have a good idea of whether i am buying a game or not. I just buy them and if i dont like them, i trade em for something else. With this one, to be fair i did not have it on the radar, only when it started getting good scores and i realised there wasn't much else out at the time did i give it chance. i am glad i did.

There is a bit of both. if you are definitely getting it, i do not want to spoil it for you. there are some points in the game where it gives you a breather (you are almost never sure though). there are safe rooms, where you can re-stock. the backtracking (which i usually hate) is not an issue and actually you look forward to going back and getting stuff etc.

The game is very creepy, you are almost always worried what you will find. the jump scares have made me yell out loud on a number of occasions. It is excellent at what it does IMO. the story has taken a rather unexpected turn at the point i am at, though i am still very intrigued.

I really do recommend you get it, especially if you have not much else on at the moment.

Well like you do your whole trade in deal thing, there's a high chance I'll get it but definitely cheaper or in a few weeks perhaps. I am a big fan of horror games, but maybe I've just worked out why I might be jaded when some of my fav horror franchises are all mainstream third person horror games(Dead Space, Silent Hill, Resi to a point) are all going the way of the Dodo in different ways. Dead Space being handled by EA(RIP), Silent Hill royally bent over and sodomised by Konami(RIP) and now Resi is something I'm not too fond of, but may end up enjoying.

I mean like I stated, I don't mind these sub genres of horror co-existing, but when you have one type dying pretty fast and not being replaced by other games to plug the gaps and one main pillar morphing into the other sub-genre it's hard for me to get excited lol Which is why I'm praying there's at least an Evil Within 2 in the works.

I'll definitely end up picking it up, maybe I just need my face slapped with the cold towel of 'change'.

You are literally 3 minutes away from getting a weapon.

I urge everyone getting this game to look past the slow and tedious cutscene-heavy walking sim start.

As soon as you get a gun you've got a proper classic RE game on your hands, albeit in first person.

I Think this game is an absolutely incredible VR experience and a very good horror game without VR. Well done capcom.

Would like to see a new survival horror project from them.

@hitmanactual: This is prob my fav RE game of all time. Def grab it when you can. I've played all of them (except for 6... tried the demo and absolutely HATED it.) Capcom nailed it... it's classic RE but even more immersive and terrifying (it's one of the scariest survival horror titles I've ever played). Make sure you don't watch any spoilers before you play it for yourself. Going in blind is the way to experience it.

Cool. It's a great game, it deserves it. The only problems I had with it was some weird checkpoints(Devs, always put a checkpoint after story dialogue so you never have to listen to the same crap over and over again if you die), and no native 21:9 support for ultrawide monitors.

Go play Layers of Fear. Thank me later.

@Phazevariance: What @R10nu said. Go play the game a bit longer. You get weapons for like 90% of the game.

Man, you're right around the corner from what I'm dubbing the "Resident Evil Doors". They're a set of double doors that once you gain access to, the game opens up and becomes the Resident Evil we all know and love.

Keep going.
