I have played it, and I disagree with you.. strongly. REmake and RE4 are WAAYYY better than Code: Veronica.

Dissing on RE4 for being to "arcadey" is stupid. That game is simply one of the best games ever made.

It is intense, beautiful, lengthy, action packed, and it features absolutely amazing boss battles.

Just because it doesn't stick to the "traditions" of RE doesn't mean anything.

Alot of RE's traditions were ****ing stupid.

RE4 is a masterpiece; if you "RE traditionalists" would pull your heads out of your past-obsessed collective arse, you might realize that.

re used to be one of those games id love to watch my friends play but couldnt play it myself

re4 i was finally able to beat a re game myself

i remember trying to entice my friend to come over and beat the tyrant at the end of disc 1

last we left off... we were running away from that beast thing with the axe as leon

and my friend moved away so... i tried taking his place but.. i still can't play the older re games myself

I liked code veronica, but one thing bothered me:

What was up with the reduced gore? In every other RE game, when you head shot a zombie, you get a bunch of gore, followed by a missing zombie head.

In Code Veronica, you got the spray of gore, as if you got the headshot, and the zombie died... but it still had its head?

What's up with that?

I agree and disagree. Yeah, RE4 had a faulty storyline that didnt manage to tie together with the previous incarnations but Resident Evil didnt have much of an masterpiece story anyway. Also RE4 had absolutely no horror elements compared to the last iterations such as the sick and twisted part of Alexia's Umbrella corporation or Spencer's Mansion. Code Veronica was probably the hardest Resident Evil simply because of it's idiotic item management like when you had to make an certain character transition which you would have NO idea that was going to happen and you would get screwed simply because of the lack of powerful weapons.

Now with that aside, the Resident Evil incarnations has simply gotten stale. The gameplay made you control everyone like a stiff tank which only added to the horror because you were forced to watch your character with an obscure camera system which Resident Evil 4 managed to fix. Difficulty? Sure, it's easier to say that RE4 was pretty easy because it actually had an checkpoint system and unlimited saves unlike the previous Resident Evil but thats probably because RE4 was aimed to a new audience. As a big fan of Resident Evil, I would look at RE4 as a godsend to a series that just would have eventually died out not something that ruined it.

I'd give the edge to RE4......but not by much.

And i agree CVX is a great game, but 2nd best only to RE4 in a close race.

CVX = most ignored RE, which is a crime. Thats probably because it doesnt have a number after it.

REC:V was incredible....but...

RE4 was the best in the series, imo. The series seriously and desperately needed a severe OVERHAUL. And RE4 is practically the NEW TURN of the series.

RE2 was SECOND best, imo, simply because it was the DIRECT prequel to RE4.

RE5 will just simply build from RE4 and get better (HD graphics, better AI and bigger environments, etc)

Verionica? You have got to be kidding me. The gameplay was convoluted Resident Evil at it's best, the tank controls suck as always, it never felt as atmospheric or threatening as either RE4 or the REmake, and then there's this guy: Hate you so much, Steve.Hoffgod

I disagree, Veronica was a better challenge, had a better story, and more memorable Boss battles than most any RE game to date. The original RE (or REmake) was scarier thanks to Lisa Trevor, but Veronica was better in most all the other important categories.

Also, Veronica X had one of the best game intros ever, not to mention a great ending battle (both the Boss battle and the encounter with ***SPOILER!!!!*** Wesker).

I'm going to agree, the dreamcast re code veronica is much better then re4. I actually think that re4 is the worst re game (besides bad ports and re online), and don't give me the garbage that re4 was goty, because gta 3, and halo ce was the same year that RE: code veronica came out. It got similar reviews to RE4

Resident Evil 0 - RE1/REmake - RE2 - RE3 - RE:CV/RE:CVX - RE4.

If you played the game then you would obvioulsy know that after CVX, RE4 takes place. Not RE2 to RE4.

I may be wrong, but I think several versions of the game censored exploding heads, while the others kept that intact.

For me its like this:

never played the two gamecube RE's. Although weskers apearance in CV was one of my fav video game moments EVER.

I have played and beaten every RE game that has come out. I love RE...and RE: Code Veronica, while being very good, is still highly over rated. I would much rather go back and play RE4 (for the 5th time), RE2 or RE3 than play Code Veronica again. The bosses were cheap and relied less on skill than how many health herbs you carried, the item swapping created more problems that benefits, way too much backtracking, etc.

Code Veronica was certainly the shot in the arm the game needed in terms of story and gameplay. However, I think it is more hype than actual respect keeping this game in people's minds. I add it to the growing list of games that people worship more because they think it's cool to name drop them as opposed to actually loving the game itself.

Anyway, there were two things I didn't like about Code Veronica.

1) It removed the dodging feature from RE3.

2) It had an opportunity to change the series' main setbacks, but didn't.Pre-rendered backgrounds wereunderstandable on the PS1 games because everything else would have looked like crap due to the system's weak graphics. But CV had fully polygonal backgrounds (evidenced by a moving/rotating camera), and a first-person view for some of the weapons, indicating that CV could've gone with a more usable, RE4-style camera. Instead Capcom stuck with the traditions that clearly needed change.

CV's story was by far the best(at the time) but the gameplay wasnt exactly amazing.

Well, I think most of you are forgetting that Code Veronica scored a 9.5... which is only .1 away from RE4's score. It's arguable.REVOLUTIONfreak

Code Veronica Xscored an 9.2 and then finally a 6.9.Gamespot knew thatthe game didnt stand against the test of time well.
