I don't mind....I still like tha game alot....all I know is that when i was a kid, I wasn't playing resident evil with the lights turned off. Now, its all about the action, its to tha point where you can put resident evil and gears of war in tha same category. imo... thought?

It has always been an action game. Just now it is explosion cinematic QTE faster paced action instead of survival slower pace action.

Technically an action adventure game or at least it's supposed to be.

No. Resident Evil 1, 2, and Code Veronica are great games. I've never played all the way through Zero or 3, but in the past the series was very well crafted and directed. It was its one thing.

I find it strange that the more this franchise gets fixed and improved, the less people like it. It reminds of how people hate it when their dangerous neighbourhoods get cleaned up and pretty, for reals, it happens.

Ill give you 2 and Id say Revelations is decent. The series hasn't aged well. Those old games have horrible gameplay.

still find them fun to play. Also yea the series has turned to more action. I wish it would go more back to the olden ways something like REmake. I still enjoy the games though. I havent played 6 yet.

The only Resident Evil games that would really classify as action games are 5 and 6. The games prior to them have at least a decent survival-horror like feel to them. So to answer your question, yes for now RE is a action genre. (excluding revelations) .

Yeah it's now a pretty mindless action game where it used to focus on using your head. It was all about puzzle solving, inventory management, and planning ahead. You only shot when you felt you absolutely had to.

Now it's shoot first then shoot some more...

I can't think of a franchise that's changed as much as this one. It went from one end of the spectrum to the other.

Well how do you want them to play? Resident Evil is about atmosphere, puzzle solving, and the overall experience.

I would argue it always was, but whatever. Personally 4 and Remake are the only ones I still enjoy playing. 4 being probably my favorite game. That said post 4 they have been dropping off considerably, but Capcom as a whole has been a lesser company this gen than what they did last gen. Albeit yes Street Fighter 4 and Dead Rising are fantastic. I think it personally Capcom would be a better dev if they got away from their old franchises, and focused on new stuff.

I've hope for the series, Capcom just needs to find its groove, problem is the people who used to make RE games left Capcom and went over to found Platinum games. So it's rather silly for people to say "make them like they used to", for if it were that easy they'd of just done that. Resident Evil 6 was by no means a great game, but it wasn't a bad one either, but as a good first effort by whoever took over work on the series it's a decent starting point. Having good player feedback would be the best thing to improve the next game, unfortunately a healthy dialog about what RE6 does good and what it does bad is a rather hard conversation to have considering those who haven't played it drown out the voices of those who have.

Yeah I get that it set the foundations of what survival horror was or evolved it after AiTD, but I never could take it seriously as a full on horror game. It felt too OTT and fun to be horror. I always thought when Resi 4 came out, that was what they were trying to capture with the games.

Silent Hill handled survival horror much better in my view.

Oh I couldn't agree more that Silent Hill handled survival horror way, way better, but Resident Evil is responsible for really pulling the genre out of obscurity and populariisng it - and Resident Evil 4 in terms of action horror too. These days I'd say Amnesia has been massively influential in the world of survival horror.

Tom Mc Shea had a good term for Resident Evil 5 and 6.

They're not Survival Horror. They're Gothic Action.

We have a winner!!!

Seriously people are freaking stupid if they think RE just now went action with RE6....hell RE hasn't been Survival Horror since 2002 with RE1 remake. Revelations was more like the "older" RE games but the whole scanner thing ruined that aspect.

I disagree. What didn't you like about it?

Well I happened to play every RE game at launch except for Code Veronica and RE6. I didn't get to play CV until it was ported on the ps2 (which was the better version) as CVX. For its time, the graphics blew me away but I always felt like it was missing a lot of key components to be a RE game. For instance, the story was very boring and even more confusing. The controls were also altered, the characters felt more loose, and the button lay-out was changed for the worse. I still enjoyed the game greatly back then, but it was pretty disappointing and I always called it my least favorite RE game.

However, when I recently re-played it as the HD-collection on the ps3. I was just blown away how bad that game has aged. I re-played all the RE games and CV was the only one that truly showed its age imo. The beginning of the game was overly frustrating with zero direction, tons of spots where you run out of ammo and have to kill a boss. And hordes of really annoying enemies like banditsnatchers that do not stop appearing. Just an over all disappointing game that has not aged well.

??? No, it's pretty much impossible to call the old Resident Evil games action games... They pretty much actively prevented you from taking an action oriented route because it would have been suicide. The old games forced you to take things slowly and plan ahead. Inventory management and supply conservation was the name of the game. Also, it was important to AVOID confrontation to survive. How could anybody label that as action?

They weren't just HORROR games, they were SURVIVAL/HORROR. It was the survival gameplay elements that made the series so great to me and that's what was removed.

It has turned into a beat m up with the worst story / camera / controls ever.
It is that I know about previous RE's, or I wouldn't have guessed that a professional team made RE6.

Still an action game. Definitely not what people were hyping were, and still are, hyping it up to be. Yeah, I never thought any different. 4-6 have always been action games in my mind, and 0-3... Well, I don't even want to deal with those games. It's the 2010s. You can't expect me to put with crappy game conventions from the 1990s.

Yes.

Better yet, wait for the upcoming Xbox 360/PS3 port.

It's not an explosion, qte-filled action game like RE6 was. The story is pretty interesting, and the atmosphere is definitely there.
