Resistance 2 vs GOW 2 Graphics - Honest Opinion.

I have both systems and these are two of the most sought after tites released this year. Frankly, even though Gears wipes the floor when it came to comparing it with Resistance 1, R2 definitely is better looking. Waaay better looking. Somehow the textures this time around in R2 are icredibly striking and detailed. Almost photorealistic at times. And what to say about the lighting and the fog...the PS3 hardware really excels here.

Gears 2 seems to have definitely better looking graphics than the first installment but the overall texture detail has definitely been toned down. Maybe the xbox truly has reached the pinacle of its performance cycle and the memory and bus limitations are coming into play.

Fact is that R2 has a way less involving single player campaign but Gears 2 has much inferior Multiplayer. I mean 15 minutes wait times for getting into a match. Sickening.

Overall the two consoles definitely seem to have reached a new threshold in interactive entertainment and the next year is going to be truly exciting.

I find it hard to compare the two because they are both aiming to do two different things in graphics department.

Gears 2 stresses close combat so there really isn't much openness to it, which lets the add more detail...I guess.

R2 has more open gun fights and a bigger feel to it.

Don't see how they are comparable to be honest.

You know I was just playing Gears of War 2 on a 720p TV over at a friends house, and I gotta say, I'm not very impressed. Maybe the PC version of Gears 1 spoiled me in the graphics department. DragonfireXZ95

I was impressed by how big Gears 2 environments are, seriously i got lost on many occasions, then add the increased detail, the number of enemies and friendly AI and youve got a game that is FAR ahead of Gears 1FirstDiscovery

The opening level of R2 truly showcases where the current gen consoles have reached. I have never seen this sharp a texture showcase on anything except a VERY high end PC. The textures are all bimp-mapped and are INCREDIBLE detailed. Gauranteed no one can, after close scrutiny, say that GOW2 has better textures. The character models in R2 are also very detailed and sharp. Somehow the overall texture resolution and lighting seem a lot better.

Another thing is that R2 is capable of throwing a whole bunch of enemies at you and the size of some of them is truly staggering. Gears 2 does that as well but somehow the enemies in R2 seem larger (to scale). The Titan in the first stage is truly a thing of immense size - probably the biggest enemy ever in any console game. I am still shell-shocked at the animation of the damn thing.... Notice the way the feet com clamping down when it moves. Very involving.

maybe i'm the only one but i think that there are levels/areas in geow2 that look amazing but still have low-rez textures and other areas which are not that impressive (same applies to Resistance2 there are areas which look better than locations found in Geow2)... also one has to consider the small environments in which the action takes part... compared to R2 the scale of the combat areas in Geow2 are relatively small...

Personally i like both games, the sp campaign in Geow2 was great though i was disappointed by the ending, and R2's story is entertaining and action-packed... online there is no match since R2 is clearly the better game imo... (i have to say Horde mode is great though)..

If i have to nit-pick i'd say visually Geow2 is slightly better, but its more of a tie...

Both games are unique in its own way

geow2 has slightly bigger areas over Geow1, but its still very linear & small compared to other games... when going through the campaign i always felt restricted, its like there were these invisible corridors i had to go through in order to proceed and not a medium/huge sized area which would induce me to stop & think of a proper way how to tackle the opponent ..still a great game though..

What about the amazing online modes and how the game runs so smooth with countless chimera on the screen?

I havent played gears 2 so I dont know how it Plays, but in the graphics department im pretty sure it takes the cake.

Gears really takes the lead for me thanks to the environments and character models. You can't seriously believe the environments in R2 hold a candle to Gears, if you do then you don't have the fair honest opinion you were asking of the thread.

Uncharted is still the best looking game I've seen this gen.

Exactly. I was wondering why the hell someone is comparing Resistance 2 to God of War 2 while reading the topic title. Seems like Xbox 360 fanboys aren't happy enough with stealing PlayStation 3 exclusives, they now have to steal PlayStation game acronyms as well.Greed never goes unpunished, though. Never.

for people who are saying they arent impressed with geow2 have to be playing on a craptacular tv or something i have photos of the game on my iphone that i can post but i dont know how to and on top of that my phone is i think onw megapix or it might be less its a 3g 16g so if you know let me know and also let me know how i can post pics from my lcd 1080p 22"er low lighting but still looks ok.. but the gears game engine can display over 100 enimies plus everyother thing going on onscreen so i think that gears might have a lil more going on on screen like in the last level when you are riding the t-rex looking thing theres gotta be over 300 enimies onscreen
