retro gamers/ old schoolers anger me

Great graphics is a must for any game I play. And I know alot of people just like me. Graphics = Gameplay imo.

There will be much better looking games in the future than what is is now, but still the games that are out now wowed people, just like before, just like always.

That's not even close to being accurate.

A game like Super Metroid or Super Mario World have been balanced to utmost degree. They knew their limitations, worked within them and came out with a game looked as good as it played.

Nowadays, companies are more prone to producing shovelware and recycling engines while putting little to no creativity into the product.

If you understand the elements of design and what actually goes into a video game to make it good on the level of art and literature you wouldn't make such a statement (nor would you consider Halo 2 a great game, IMO).

that's like saying Citizen Kane or touch of evil sucks compared to Dude, where's my car just because the technology used to make it was more advanced.

Sarcasm aside there are some amazing things being done in computer games in the present day, but the best of the older games are still amazing. Without the massive amounts of memory and graphical power developers really had to work hard on that ethereal concept of gameplay (plus they had more time to spend on it) which is what still separates a great game from a good one.

the difference is games of old didnt have stories, voice acting, great soundtracks realistic graphics, or in depth gameplay...

movies can be compared cause the only real difference is CGI....

FF tactics isnt that old

i was more talking about NES, SNES era where pretty much no games had a storyline, goodsoundtrack, or in depth gameplay

PS1 was really the start of great games for me

a few games from the SNES like FF6, supermario world, hold up well but overall NES, SNES games were shallow trash

You can say that Graphics = good game, in your opinion, but saying graphics equal gameplay doesn't make any sense. Ie movies are not great games as they lack the 'game' part. Gameplay is hard to quatify (think of the feeling you get when you hit a baseball perfectly) and often the simplest games tend to have the best gameplay (ie tetris, pacman). Graphics, storyline, audio etc are not part of gameplay but can be part of what makes a game great.

Well would it be madness to say i had more fun back in the day playing snes and nes games than i do today playing ps2 xbox and xbox 360 games? Becuase if it is then im MAD......MAD I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
