Retro Studios Taking a Break' from Metroid Series

"We are taking a break from Metroid series and from Samus," said Metroid Prime 3 Game Director Mark Pacini. "I'm sure there will be other Metroid titles created, but as far as the Retro Studios is concerned, we're taking a break for a little bit."

As 1UP's review suggested, the series is certainly going out with a bang. Will Nintendo fit Retro with another franchise in need of a revival?

Are they still a 2nd party dev for nintendo? Or were they contracted for just the Prime series? if so mr gates should snap them up NOW. Keep Bungie on there toes..Bazfrag

That said though, Retro have proven their talents thrice now, they're certainly one of the top FPS/FPA developers around. If they could make an original FPS IP with online play, that'd be pretty awesome.

thats because they had the game running in 3rd person and Myamoto said it would work better in 1st person (Suprise! kinda strange coming from him - a person who only makes 3rd person games).

I only have two hopes:

1. Whatever game they make, I hope it uses the controls they worked so hard to perfect with Corruption.

2. Nintendo doesn't make them make casual crap.

Well thats good. Companys cannot make the same game forever, they need something else, i mean look at bungie, they have been making Halo for years, not to say that it hasnt been awesome, but if they had gone on to make a 4th halo right after Halo 3, i dont think it would be good. Besides, maybe this means we will see another sidescrolling Metriod!

A Kid Icarus game would be cool, but maybe Retro will make a original game (gasp).

They should make the RPG that was cancelled for the Gamecube that they were making.

If they make Kid Icarus I hope it isn't going to use the cartoony character model from Brawl for Pit. I want Raven Blade.kiruyama

The Pit from brawl is excellent.

Seems to me that Raven Blade is the most likely. Metroid Primeis an atmospheric, epic franchise and it might be difficult for retro to make a sequel to donkey kong 64. I mean, we all want retro to be the new rare, but c'mon that would be retro going out of their way to make it happen.

As for Kid Icarus, it is maybe too similar to metroid prime, so it's like the opposite end of the spectrum from DK64. For one, the original kid icarus is a lot like the original metroid. Metroid was basically altering the formula that kid icarus started. Also, it would be retro type casting themselves as some kind of old franchise revival dev (although that would suit their namesake, lol). Me personally, I would like something new coming from them.
