i agree...

no numerical system with increments less than 10 can really be trusted.

When your talking about pure facts then yes that might be true. Reviews on the other hand is only a persons opinion and when a game can get 8/10 from one reviewer and 7.9/10 from another why is a 4/5 so bad? That 0.1 difference won't even be noticeably when you play the game. I't only an optical illusion that 100 scoring scale would be more accurate then a 10 scoring scale when your talking about opinions.

If you want more substance you should read the actual review.

Can you give a song a numerical score? NO. WHy not? Because there aren't universal standards that determine how good a song is, it's all opinion. same way with games, it's as if the reviewer is passing an all-knowing judgement on a game whenever he gives a game a numerical score.

stars aren't numbers. (for a reason)

Which is why you shouldn't pay attention to the score, instead you read what they are saying about the game. This way you know what to expect and seriously when you see a 10 you don't go "oh man this game is perfect" which is very misleading to many gamers.

I'd prefer a system with a decimal. Let them get specific as possible.

Yeah, reading reviews is overrated.

[QUOTE="CaseyWegner"]just another reason why using gamerankings as a measuring stick here isn't a good idea. different review sources use different systems but gamerankings counts them all as equal.Oroin

So which kinda of review system you prefer, I think a 5 point is good. 5 recommended, 4 good, 3 so so, 2, bad 1. awful. simple and easy.

i never really had a problem with increments of .1 but .5 is decent enough i guess.

but remember kids, always round to three significant digits.
