Well, Jeff and Greg Kasavin have always reviewed games that win GOTY. Jeff reviewed Gears and it won GOTY. Same for Wind Waker, and GTA 3. Greg reviewed Metroid Prime, Re4, and WoW. So it seems like the top-tier games get reviewed by the top- tier reviewers.
I have said all along that the Wii will get GOTY. I don't know why people doubt it, either. Of every year that Nintendo had a live and kicking GC, how many years did they win GOTY? 3.
Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, and Resident Evil 4 won GOTY.
The other two years? Grand Theft Auto 3, World of Warcraft.
It's going to take a FANTASTIC game to steal GOTY from a game like SMG or MP3, as both of those are certain to be top-notch.
halo 3 still holds a lot of promise even though halo series never won goty in gamespot. (Halo 2 had to go up against half-life, wowand doom 3. The competition is much looser now that bioshock did not recieve 9.5)

SMG is going to be great. The hype isn't being driven by Nintendo or by the fans. It's being driven by those that have already played it- the media. SMG will be the best 3D platformer to date.
agreed. it will be my goty no matter what. im gonna be playing that game for months.... uhh years prolly haha.
I thought Halo 3 would be GOTY whe I saw the E3 trailer. Buh! The graphics are! What? Ugly? No? Not anymore. Besides, gameplay is the true thing that counts.
