RIP Mixer... though it never really truly lived

All that money they spent shanghai-ing Twitch streamers for a platform they knew was dead anyway. So much for that Xbox warchest we've heard so much about.

Yo, the Xbox branch of Microsoft is the most clueless bunch of folks I think I’ve ever seen in the gaming industry. They’ve literally done nothing right and have been in 3rd place FOR THE ENTIRE EXISTENCE OF THE XBOX BRANDS LIFE. Big Microsoft needs to take a serious look at the hundreds of millions of dollars blown by the Xbox folks. Hell, we could be in the billions at this point. Seriously, Ninja was paid $20 million for 5 months of semi-regular streaming. They paid a few others some serious dough as well. And now it’s just gone? The “let’s just throw some money at it” strategy didn’t work. Does it ever?!?!

Oh wow, that’s unfortunate. I kind of liked some of the stuff that Mixer had going on but sadly the streamers that I enjoy watching are all on Twitch. Kind of surprising but not really either.

That racial incident that just happened a few days ago was the final nail on the coffin for Mixer. I'm not into Twitch but there's no other alternative other than YouTube so oh well.

I mean it was inevitable really. Mixer just hasn't seen the growth, especially even when they got Ninja, Shroud, and a few other top streamers. YouTube and Facebook just have a bigger platform outside of twitch to grow.

I'm not buying the xCloud rubbish though, Mixer just didn't work out, so to cut ties now makes sense. Shame because the potential was there if MS put efforts into it.

Makes me wonder what the future of Game Pass will look like if they can only get people to use it for $1 subs. I keep telling people, nothing with this company is guaranteed. Phil Spencer is a HUGELY extravagant Microsoft exec who burns big cash for short term press, for a division that hasn't seen a profit in years. I think this upcoming gen is going to be do or die for his tenure.

Seems to me like they're growing the audience under a new platform in a partnership. I fail to see how this hurts MS.

As a customer though, I worry what steps Microsoft is taking to protect their customer information since they are partnering with a company that will give its user information to any third party that wants it.

Well, it didn't work out, so moving on was the only logical thing to do. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I have a Mixer account myself, but only to collect drops off Warframe streams. Meh. Back to YouTube and no drops. I'm not going anywhere near the landfill inferno that is Facebook.

I never, ever used Mixer... but I haven't really watched Twitch streams either, a waste of time, both of them.

Won't lie tho, only heard of Mixer in a few stories and legit never watched a stream on it. Like I remember hearing about MS paying for some big name streamers... and now this. Can't think of anything else lol.

Personally don't get the appeal of watching someones normal ass play through of a game with commentary.

But some high level play, like watching a record speed run, competitive play, or just any kind of wildly skillful shit? Down for that from time to time.

Not knowing what Twitch is one thing, but not knowing Mixer is another and it barely got a mention in various gaming places nor MS didn't bother to put efforts supporting it. I never bother with Mixer and I hardly could remember it and you can see why MS is abandoning it.

Twitch, on the other hand, I don't watch live streamers and the only time I'll watch someone playing a game will be over at YouTube that's not streaming and just uploads the vid.

Ninja was good and all but he got too big, too fast.

MS did bother to support it. That support didn't change the already dominant presence of Twitch and the megalithic reach of Facebook.

What MS should of done is invest on making exclusives that doesn't flop.
