This is an EPIC FAILURE on the part of Namco. I wonder if LucasArts made this a requirement as part of the deal, or if Namco is just trying to milk the Star Wars angle, either way, it not a good look. :(

Desperation for sales.
To me, the series died when SC3 was simply SC2 with nicer graphics. This next one will probably be the same, although I'd love to be wrong (I won't be).

SC3 was SC2 with better graphics? How could they improve upon a game that already was so good in the first place? Remember that SC1 on the Dreamcast was AAAA (10/10) on GameSpot. Good luck improving upon the sequel of the sequel of the sequel of an AAAA gme :)
Playing SC4 over XBL should be fun :)

GTAIV = 10. After 3 GTAs that got 9.6/10.
It can be done. Let's not make excuses for devs who lack creativity.

I see what you mean, and I agree. Well, all we can do now is just hope that Namco is capable of providing some improvements such as better storylines, more interesting characters, better replayability, cool features and unlockables, and so forth. Also, online play is extremely important.
[QUOTE="Nagidar"]I don't see whats so bad about this, they are unique characters to each specific console.DisPimpinYeah, but that should be a bullet point, not the sellling point. They are not Soul Calibur characters, they are Star Wars characters.
And? Its a unique way of selling your game, having outside characters doesn't make the game any better, because if the gameplay sucks, it doesn't matter what characters you have in the game.
Maybe it should be RIP Soul Calibur 1998 - 2002, Cause what the hell did Hitachi, Zelda and Spawn have to do with Soul Calibur?
Star Wars is awesoem and it was an almost perfect addition imho.

too bad SA was better than GTAIV though. I think GTAIV is proof that graphics > gameplay when it comes to reviews here :(
No, I'm pretty sure GS decided that a smaller amount of refined features > a plethora of roughly implemented gameplay elements. That, and finally, GTA IV takes social and political satire to a whole new level. I think those that hate the game are the ones that bought it with their mothers lol. As I said before, you may get your chainsaw freak on in Saint's Row 2 later this year, if that's your kind of thing. As for me, I'll be sitting back watching some Weazel TV and surfing craplist.net.too bad SA was better than GTAIV though. They should just rename this to Masters of Teras Kasi 2.FrozenLiquid
TK 2 would be the fighting game included on Force Unleashed Wii. Just a supposition.
The pinnacle of Soul Caliber was the Dreamcast version. It's all gone downhill since.
As a sidenote, Soul Edge on the PS1 was great, and Soul Blade in the arcades was incredible.

I agree the things implemented in SA werent highly refined, but it seems like a step back when you remove more than Half of the features found in a prequel. And its not like they hurt the game. The main game was solid, and the side quests were solid, the other features in SA were just for fun and to mess around with, why could GTAIV do what a sequel does, and add rather than subtract from the experience? And why did they take away the option to buy new houses? Wtf am i supposed to do with all the money i have at the end of the game? and i cant buy businesses? well, that sux. Look at what they did with the cellphone and taxis. They took an idea initially introduced in Vice City and improved on it! Thats what sequels are supposed to do. Not remove alot of the features that made the prequels alot of fun...thats like making gears2 and saying "yeah...this time there will be no chainsaws..." :|
I don't see whats so bad about this, they are unique characters to each specific console.NagidarAgreed. People are acting like this will somehow ruin the gameplay...the games going to be fun so i don't see why it even matters.
Soul Calibur started dying for me when III came out, I dont know why, it just didnt have that "flair" the other two had. Oh well, theres still Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6 to look forward to :D.
P.S Am I the only one who would like to see Heiachi and or Spawn to return to the game, possibly as DLC?
The negativity is strong in this topic, so much pain and anguish over a cover, boo hoo. If you want bad covers look at Soul Calibur 2

I actually like the European covers for Soul Calibur 4,
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b7/Soulcalibur_IV.png
and the game looks great to me, can't wait to play it
this was obviously gonna happen
star wars sells, so they're gonna make sure everyone can see vader / yoda on the cover!
i just wished they made it more subtle .. like a ton of SC characters, with vader / yoda somewhere on the screen, but not taking all the limelight
I'm no fan of the series but I agree that this is a terrible idea.elektrixxx
No more terrible than adding Link and Venom to Soul Calibur 2, people need to stop over reacting. If the gameplay is good then it doesn't matter if they add a few characters to the mix.
The fighting genra use to be one of my favorites but after so many street fighters, mortal kombats, soul calibers and dead or alive games i just got burnt out. That genre just kindeve got stuck somewere and never really got loose in my opinion. Its the same crap with these games and nothing ever seems to change.Someone really needs to do something inovative to revive the fighting genre in my opinion.I mean its like they keep repackaging these games with a couple of new characters and backgrounds.I dont care that star wars characters are in soul caliber and to be honest with ya i dont even care that theres a new soul caliber.Im sure that theres a lot of people out there that still love these games and thats fine.Im just really burnt out on these games.Ill probably feel the same about shooters in a couple of years, who knows.

The problem is it seems they're putting so much focus on the extras that the core gameplay is being ignored. And have you checked out the new canon characters for the game. It seems to me they're taking a page from the competition's playbook...and not necessarily the most civilized page, either, if you get my drift. All in all, it's making the veterans ask, "What the (expletive) is this?!"

so you're saying that they can beat the score 10 which is the highest score for this site.......[QUOTE="Nagidar"]I don't see whats so bad about this, they are unique characters to each specific console.toxicmog
Very true.
SC 2 had the pictures of the 'Guest stars' on the front of the box.
SC2 wasn't too bad. One guest character per system, but the core of the improvements went to the core gameplay and to the new characters, which were canon. Whereas here...unless we learn more from Namco, you have to wonder just where they're focusing their efforts.Man, those covers are pretty weak IMO. SC4 was suppose to be the last installment anyway. Namco gave us a good ride with the franchise, even if SC3 was a bit of a rehash with a crappy file corruptions.
Well, I was one of those pricks who cursed Namco for the crap they pulled with SC2, and it's out of place system exclusive characters. I wouldn't mind if they did another create a character mode like in SC3, but when foreign figures grace the covers of the game, imo it does take away from the SC name. Honestly, I'd rather just play SC1 online over 2 and probably 4, when the franchise was pure Soul Calibur. But of course in ball dropping Namco fashion, they refuse to incorporate online play to the original SC game on xbla... I'm praying they wise up, and patch it for online like they did Tekken 5 DR for PS3.

Yeah, but they're in the core roster though. A lot of people like myself don't even want to fight them, and since they're in the main lineup, you're bound to encounter them; where's a create a character mode like in SC3 would've made encountering them limited to certain player circumstances.

Who cares!? I really dont get why this is such a big deal. Vader is cool, Yoda is cool, that other guy seems dumb but who wouldnt want to play as Vader or Yoda like that, you guys are getting too uptight acting like it ruins an already horrible story.
Since when does the cover determine if a game is good or not?
Don't want star wars characters? Don't use them.
i dont like Calibur without soul 4 !
why they must put those futuristic star-wars chars in a game like this ? whats the next step , cars with weapons ?
fishfake
Yeah they should have got that Pontiac transformer to be in the game game. The one with the 1980's rapper accent.
