[QUOTE="DisPimpin"][QUOTE="Nagidar"]I don't see whats so bad about this, they are unique characters to each specific console.shadyd1717

Yeah, but that should be a bullet point, not the selling point. They are not Soul Calibur characters, they are Star Wars characters.

Who cares!? I really dont get why this is such a big deal. Vader is cool, Yoda is cool, that other guy seems dumb but who wouldnt want to play as Vader or Yoda like that, you guys are getting too uptight acting like it ruins an already horrible story.

I care. So would people who are not too fond of Star Wars. Perhaps people don't want to play as Star Wars characters or face them (since word is the guest characters are becoming core characters--meaning you'll face them in the normal course of the game). They want to play as and fight 17th-century swordwielders (which is the proper timeframe for Soul Calibur IIRC). And SC was at least tolerable, but the proposed changes for SC4 drop it below the tolerance threshold. IOW, without the "guest characters", SC fans may have been willing to give it one more go but will likely balk over this.

Who the hell cares about the box art? Did having Link on the box take away anything from SCII? Hell no. If you don't like SW characters, don't use them. I personally can't wait to test my skills online.

Link made a previous versions cover, I think 2, outside characters making the cover is nothing new, why are you so pissed over it?

It's not just the SW characters, most of the new character designs and guest characters (as well as a fair smattering of existing characters) are really bland now. I certainly don't appreciate the boomf effect replacing all those nice special hit effects, an hour of that and I'll have a headache (like GoW all over again) it seems to me that a lot of the feel of SC has simply been taken out.

The only nice improvement I have seen that I am really impressed with so far is the backward parry does something much more interesting this time around. That's about it.

It's not just that that has us in a tizzy. At least with the SC2 guest characters, their implements and settings were fairly appropriate for the atmosphere of the series. But to throw lightsabers and sci-fi settings in a game supposedly set in the 17th century...frankly, "It don't make no sense." Other things I have heard through the grapevine include the list of the 5 normal characters to be added to SC4. Unless it's from an old April Fools article, that list has Fan Service written all over it.

Stop complaining :|
For starts, complaining about the box art ruining the game is idiotic. Plain and simple. They'd be stupid not to put The Star Wars characters on the cover. Why? It's an excellent business move, which will definitly help move units.
As for if it will destroy SC...um, did the fact that the cover of SCII had the guest characters ruin the game, and completely change their theme? :| Um no.
Did the guest characters destroy the game? Um no.
darkslider99

There are far more guest characters in SC4 than in 2 (not just the Star Wars ones). In SC2 it was a cool extra, in SC4 the new designs are making up the bulk and ot feel of the game. The designs have traditionally been very good, now it sucks (and that is for SC canon characters) when you add the terrible guest characters it just becomes even worse on top of the fact that Namco is already taking many questionable moves with this game.

Some of you guys who believe in this R.I.P. Soul Calibur hoopla are way too nitpicky about this.

For me, I think it's a great idea for something that SHOULD have been realized years ago.....as in 1999.....when SW Episode I and Dreamcast were released. Ever since then, and after playing Soul Calibur on my DC, I've always wondered how cool it would be if Darth Maul (after watching Kilik with his Staff) or any Jedis & Siths ever made it in a Soul Calibur type game.

9 years later, it's slowly becoming a reality with SC4. Now, for LA & Namco (at least with thier game engine), it would really really be cool if they released a Star Wars centric game with all the Jedis & Siths (from the Movies & Expansion) based upon the Soul Calibur engine.

Not a bad idea, Imo.

Fair enough. A Star Wars-themed fighting game using a good fighting engine...if Lucas and company is cool with it, and someone's got the wherewithal to give it a shot, good luck to them. But don't mishmash them into Soul Calibur, please. Everything in it's place, you know.

Guest characters aren't the big issue here. It's how much effort is being put into them vs. the core game. Besides, SC2's guests were adjusted to fit into SC's motif, not the other way around the way SC4 seems to be shaping up.

When did soul calibur die?

I agree that it was a bad decision to put Yoda and Vader in such a medieval based game, but it won't kill the franchise.

They're also increasing the bust of all the female characters and increasing the size of arenas to make it harder to fall out of the ring. They're doing all they can to "DoA" the series.

That is quite pathetic and desperate of Namco. It's very obvious there using the Star Wars brand to sell this game and nothing else. Dear god. Maybe every game should have a Star Wars Character in it to sell it. Anyway I hope this game sells like crap. I dislike these desperate attempts at making money.

Honestly I think people are making entirely too much of a big deal with these SW characters... I had the XB version of SC 2 and I hardly used Spawn (ok maybe more than I'm willing to admit :P). However I still considered it to be a very solid fighting game. You don't have to use the SW characters... And the mere fact that this version is online, is a HUGE selling point for me.

To everyone defending the Star Wars crossover- let's see you defend them after seeing everyone online play Yoda- and I'm certain that Namco, being Namco, will have online-based achievements. Spawn, Heihachi and Link may get a bad rap, but they didn't make Talim look like Shaq in comparision. :|

OH NOES!!!

Except Link & Spawn were on the front covers of the GC and Xbox versions. I guess it should be Soul Calibur RIP 1998 - 2003

Soul Calibur is my favorite fighting series, but I thought SC 3 was a huge let down. Hopefully 4 is better.

Desperation for sales.

To me, the series died when SC3 was simply SC2 with nicer graphics. This next one will probably be the same, although I'd love to be wrong (I won't be).

the-very-best

EHHH!!!!!

I still play SC II. In fact, Soul Cal is one of my if not my favorite fighting series of all time! However, III really shot my hype for this series to hell! SC III is a mess. Why would Namco go console exclusive when its the GC version of the game that sold the most (prob due to link)? Now they pull this shat off! It's like Namco is looking at the Wii sales and realize the game will like do nothing in Japan and prob once again, not do as well as they hope in NA and Europe so they are letting Star Wars take over! I promise you this, Namco is probably still kicking themselves by not making a Wii version (I mean graphically speaking, how much prettier can a fighting game graphic become?), with both Link and Gannodorf as exclusive characters! If that happens....Then the Wii version probably would outsell both the Ps3 and X360 verison!

TREAL_Since

Lord of the Rings characters confirmed for Tekken. Box art shows Frodo Baggins squaring off against Jin.

The whole Star Wars thing is interesting but they are milking it to the nth degree now. A series that's as acclaimed as Soul Calibur doesn't need to shamelessly tack on such a popular franchise.

What's the problem? Loss of focus.

What's supposed to be new in the core of SC4? From what we're seeing, there doesn't seem to be much to be added except fan service.

I don't have a problem with the covers but I have a problem with the Characters since it doesn't make since the game takes place in the 16th or 17th Century and Star Wars characters don't fit, atleast in Soul Calibur 2 Hiyachi (spelling?) and Link made since because they look like they could be from that time period but I didn't think Spawn worked in the time period Namco should've picked someone else for the Xbox version of SC2.

How could people complain over the Star Wars characters because they are "out of place" due to the game taking place in the 16-17th century, if many of the existing characters wear anachronistic clothing (e.g. Ivy in her 18th century navel officer suit)?

Yeah, but that should be a bullet point, not the selling point. They are not Soul Calibur characters, they are Star Wars characters.

I present Exhibits A,B, & C. SC2 with Link, SC2 with Spawn, and SC2 with some Tekken guy.

On top of that, the best sales of SC2 were seen on the Gamecube, which is largely attributed to the presence of Link. I myself have even seen T.V. commercials advertising it as a Zelda game.
