Like always, SONY was at least 1 step ahead of MS.
Once SE and MS announced console exclusivity, SONY willingly delayed Uncharted 4 and humiliated MS once again. MS just lost billions of $$$ securing exclusivity and now it's a waste, because no one on the Xbone bought it.
SONY is just so smart. How do they do it?
Rise of the Tomb Raider is quite a good game, the combat is easily one of the very best making it extremely fun, storyline okay but nothing significant, characters average once again nothing significant and lastly graphics are very beautiful but not groundbreaking. All in all it is a decent package but it doesnt sell consoles. Its not like games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3 or Uncharted 4 which easily makes a console worthwhile with just this one game. If Microsoft were to acquire massive titles like The Witcher 3 it'd be a totally different story. I really doubt people would have bought an Xone just to play RoTR especially when the PC version release is not too far away and people will play at more than 1080P with sharper graphics and 60fps...
Stock went from low 40s to a high of 55 per share while the DJIA was shaky dueto china and oil. So maybe not.
Firstly there is no single game in existence that can justify the price of a console. Would you actually pay £400 for Uncharted 4 plus the additional monthly PS+ fees to play online, if you owned a PS4 already or you would you pay it for a console just to play one game and never be used for anything else? Of course you wouldn't, no truly sane person (at least one with a concept of monetary value) would.
Games can attract people to buy certain consoles but that would with intention of using it for multiple games over several years. There is no reason to believe that RotTR is not one of those. Tomb Raider is a very popular I.P, add that to the fact that the majority of average households do not want and will not spend the money required on PC that can run the game at high resolutions and 60fps+ (it's extremely demanding) it does in fact make the Xbox One an attractive buy, as long as the games already on it (and possibly upcoming) are appealing to them.
I really do wish that people on these boards removed their fanboy glasses, Xbox One games being shared on PC or even full multi-platform, whether that's timed exclusivity or same day release, does not make the slightest difference to average Joe public. The largest seller of consoles, by far, is peer pressure, if little Timmy's mates have PS4's he obviously going to ask Santa to get him a PS4 as well. People are sheep (not just Nintendo fans :p) and they follow the flock, the trick is to get your product into the flock before your competition.
I bought a PS4 specifically to play the witcher 3, I bought an Xbox 360 specifically for mass effect and I will buy Wii U specifically for zelda and maybe xenoblade .The point of of having exclusives is to move consoles, I think OP point is that Tomb raider didn't do this so it was a waste of money on MS part to add to the all around pointlessness its coming out a month and a bit later on pc.
You would be shocked at what one really good exclusive can achieve as far as pushing people over the edge to buy the console its on.
I should have probably added "In my opinion" to that first sentence.
Do you agree with the OP (hard to tell from your post)? If so like to know the difference between buying a console for one game that's also on PC (released the same day) and one that had couple of months full exclusivity before being shared with PC. Especially when both games are vastly better on PC than any console. Why is one a waste of time and the other is not?
In regard to the exclusivity reason, it's purely a competition thing with Sony. Right now if you want to play RotTR you either need an Xbox One, Xbox 360 (yuk!), which are both readily available to more people, or a fairly strong PC. You can't play the newest edition of this hugely popular game on any Sony console and no release date has yet been forthcoming. (although we all know it is, eventually)
Wasn't pointless for Xbox One owners ... We got to play a good game while ps4 owners got uncharted 4 delayed
Anything that has to do with the xbone is pointless. Even more so when they try to compete against a masterpiece GOTY Quad exclusive like UC4. Lems just don't know what a truly good game looks like so MS hopes to fool them with low standard poor man copies of Sony's masterpieces. TLHBO.
