[QUOTE="IronBass"]His company, his policies. Considering how well Activision has been doing lately, I'm not in position to question him.WasntAvailable
Actually it's quite easy to question outright stating you want your employees to be disatisfied with their own work. That's not a good way to make your company look good, and it raises the question why did he do this interview if he didn't really care that the people reading the article were going to be annoyed by it. As far as I'm concerned saying what he has just said can not have a positive impact on peoples impression of the company, and as a CEO he should be spending his time more efficently. It really says alot about him.If Activision starts to lose money, the blame will rest entirely on him, regardless of who really caused the problem. He's setting himself up badly if you ask me.
If this somehow affects Activision stocks, income or profit this fiscal year we will be in position to question him. Until that, the best we can do is say "what a mean person!!! "[QUOTE="river_rat3117"] so, hes the michael bay of video games lol.RedruM_IUggghhh! The sight of that name makes me want to kill something.
Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay.
Now go kill Kotick before he kills gaming
Faster = good?
Yeah right, Hideo Kojima delayed MGS4 so much it became the 2008 GotY. GTA IV also took an extra 6 moths coupled with the longet time its taken to make a GTA game.Valve ALWAYS delays their games, took them 10 years for TF2, 6 for Half-Life 2, and... well, just one for Left 4 Dead 2.
Boy I hope this doesn't catch on to other devs.

And neither Valve, Konami or Take-Two are as successful as Activision. He's a CEO. He cares about $, not about MGS4 being GameSpot's GOTY.You can't have a question after it has been answered. If that's not a good enough basis for you, there's allways the fact that there are now more than 10guitar heros since 2005. Is there some reason I can't question someones behaviour simply because they are making money? I don't think so, simply being succesful does not make you immune from critisism. I very much doubt the succes of the company is down to his own efforts. He didn'thave any involvement in developing titles, and you can onlykeep remaking the same IP for so long beforeit gets stale.Actitivsion don't even need to try, it's running on automatic.

He's a CEO. The only way I'm gonna judge him is as a CEO. As a CEO, his function is to keep his company successful. And he's doing it, so I will not question him.
I don't know him enough to judge him as a person. And even if I did, I have no interest on doing it. I have my own garbage.

And I'm sure the shareholders and execs at Bear Sterns, Lehman Brothers, AIG and all those corp. thought it was a great idea to do what was needed for short-term profit instead of long-term sustainability. And they were so on the money with that way of business....
I do not understand how people who are aware of what this guy says and the crap activision has been pulling latley can still buy activison published games. You are just feeding the fire they are throwing around. The only way to stop this garbage is by speaking with your dollar, dont buy their friggen games. I hope to god this doesnt last, activision really is turning into the cancer of gaming.
you're a consumer... of course you are in a position to question him. unless you work for activision.Phaze-TwoAs a consumer I can question his products , what I actually pay for.

If you say so. As far as I'm concerned saying bad things about your own company is not a good way of doing your job as a CEO, so I will question his behaviour, because frankly it should be questioned.

Just that I don't think your reasons to question him are solid enough for meto do the same.
But that's what this place is about, isn't it? To have a healthy exchange of views. :)

I'm just wondering how long they can keep that up. That can't be sustainable. Activision should really be looking at new IPs about now if you ask me. Right now they have prototype, they will need something more to fall back on when Guitar Hero goes Tony Hawks, which is probably inveitable.

Amazing, thats amazing. Activision just wants to release the same games always. If you choose to support them, then 1) you can't plausibly say you care about the face of the gaming industry and 2) You have no right to complain about the horrible stagnancy of ideas that plagues the modern gaming market.cutmaclass1I could care less about the the face of the gaming industry and I love the "horrible stagnancy of ideas that plagues the modern gaming market" (this has been an awesome gen, after all). Can I has some MW2? :D

Looking at the huge increase of games in 2009 I wonder what 2010 will bring.
I swear I'm going to shove a drum set so far up his back port that he's going to be able to ace "Through the fire and flames" on expert + with his teeth.
NOTHING, and i mean NOTHING is too harsh when it somes to dealing with Robert Kotick. And I want to take thearrogant smirk off of hisface by taking a shovel to it. Or is that mabye just a bit harsh...?

It's time we gamers stopped supporting Activision.
And no, you can't say "I'll stop supporting Activision after Guitar Hero 5 or Modern Warfare 2". It's as stupid as saying "I'll put out this fire burning here just as soon as I finish pouring gasoline on it."
By buying more games from Activision you're only giving more money to Kotick and his company. We gamers can live without another rehashed, button mashing Guitar Hero game or another generic shooter like COD.
[QUOTE="thelastguy"]yeah because in this form of entertainment faster = good.............. :| compare it to music or even movies. Well said this man. I'd have to admit Activision is becoming a sort of "EA" by churning out games like a photocopier and feels that they can do anything with their games (e.g the price hike of MW2.)
Activision is the kind of company that causes mass suicide among their employees, like that french telecom business.
You know how that happens?
Because ALL they see is money, and not people. So the company makes many rules and gets dehumanized, the people get forgotten and punished for being human. And as they pretend to be droids, the true talent has left or has been silenced in Your company, because none of them can do their work there to push the media forward. Slowly it devours human lives, but it's money will be pouring in until the other companies outthink them.
When that happens, they will be unable to keep up and they fail.
The sad thing is the company ruining things for everyone because they can get some money out of it. And maybe even worse are the customers, You guys, who fall for it and will allow them to do increasingly worse things for years until they go down. What's it going to take guys? What's it going to take for You to say no? We first need some suicides? Or maybe see all gameprices rise? Should we wait until Diablo 3 or 4 gets a commercial interruption every 5 minutes, with the excuse that it's good for gamers to take a break now and then? What does it take?
this guys right, we gamers hold the true power in this industry, we decide which companys will rise and fall, we can destroy activision purely by refusing to buy there products, for the sake of all the talented devs at activision we should boycott there products until they fire kotick and change there ways, remember when MS tried charging for windows live? the hermits stood together and refused to pay, and windows live is still free, it was consumer pressure that forced MS to give a 3 year warranty for RROD, as long as we buy activisions games they will continue down the road they are travelling, no one here likes what they are doing, question is, are you going to do anything about? i am, i swear i will not buy another activision game until kotick is fired.Activision is the kind of company that causes mass suicide among their employees, like that french telecom business.

While, I don't know if he actually meant create a work place that is not fun, I have to agree with him somewhat.
When video games started to become popular, companies had a hard time finding qualified people to make games. The people they hired were in such demand that they could get away with behaviours that would get most of us fired.
Most of the people on the creative-side, had no clue about the business-side of making games. The creative-side people felt the shouldn't be "rushed" to meet deadlines. Some of these people went on to head some of the development studios and kept that ethic; the ole, "the game is released when it is finished" mantra.
Unfortunately, the longer you take to develop a game, the more likely you are to go over budget. Further, there are no guarantees that the extra time spent on the game is going to translate into extra sales, or even enough to recoup the costs. What happens is that a game is released a doesn't sell enough to cover the costs. For a smaller "independent" studio, this canmean "game over" (pun intended). You either remain independent and hope that you can secure funding for your next game from a private source, or you team with an established publisher to bankroll some of the costs.
Maybe Kotlick meant that he stopped practices likeemployees playing video games and watching movies during work hours to get "inspired". Obviously, he doesn't want to make their actually work devoid of fun. He sounds like he just expects them to do their jobs as hired.
