I know a lot people are not going to buy $600 machine. Even if PS3 had AAA games galore people still would be waiting for the price drop. Why can't you 360 fans admit Xbox360 is not doing so hot either? Gaming wise, they are the worst ever in the first 18 months. Maybe PS3 and Wii might do worst, but right now Xbox360 takes that crown.

shungokustasu

I think Lemmings admit that if the 360 were competing with some consoles of past generations, it would not be doing so hot. They also admit though that the 360 is NOT competing with those consoles of past generations, so it's really just an empty intellectual execise to pose such "what if's" as if they meant something. Then they admit that, yes, it IS doing the best in the games department of any console that is out right now, so rather than sit here and say "LOLZORS TEH PS2 IS DOING SO MUCH BETTER!" they support the best choice available now, and lay off the theoretical hand-wringing.

So basically, they have the most good games out on any console this generation, and the Cows/Sheep have either "Sales ZOMG!" or "Just wait a few more months... A few more months"... And it seem you have "But it it WERE competing against console X - which it's not - it wouldn't be doing so hot! HA HA SONY FOREVER!"

Sigh...I'm hope I convince one person to actual think about the state of this gen. Heading home see ya.

And he flees....naturally.

[QUOTE="waynehead895"]So what's taking Sony so long to regain the lead so they can "save" gaming?shungokustasu

Simple, media and their image. They now have to work on image to get the respect back from the consumer. Do you believe that?

what does that have to do with AAA games?

The question wasn't about AAA games, but why is it taking so long for Sony to save gaming. Sony will save gaming from Microsoft. You can bet your last dollar on that.

Hahaha. The 360, from a purely gaming standpoint,  is a MUCH MUCH better system. It uses a GREAT mixture of price performance parts, instead of jacking up the cost to try in insert a new format AND a completely different architecture. If any console is going to save gaming, it is going to be the 360. It is designed as a gaming console first and formost, where as the PS3 was designed as a half assed media center(as evidenced by the cell wich is SPECTACULAR at decoding media, but a PITA for games), with gaming tacked on.

You may convince some people that this gen is slow on AAA's... Trying to pin it on Microsoft is absurd though, and you'll only convince other Sony fanboys of that. Most other people will probably think about it and disagree, like most people in this thread are doing - but I'm guessing you only consider someone as having "thought about this gen" if they agree with you, right?

Now go home and hug your PS3 a while. I would say play some games for it, but as you seem well aware, there are next to no games on it - which, of course, you consider Microsoft's fault.

right on brotha :)

Hey I can be just as absurd and say the decline began when Sony implemented b/c. Afterall, the devs didn't have to make quakity games at a quicker pace, just have everyone play there old libraries or implementing DVD playback, why do you need games, just watch movies?

Yeah, Microsoft has a long ways to go when it comes to video gaming. 360 fans say they have the games, but comparing it to 2 systems that been out for 6 months, of course they will. Let's compare them to past generations and see how they stand.

First 18 months Playstation 2  AAA titles = 20
Tekken Tag Tournament  86%
Fifa 2001 82%
SSX - 91%
NFL Madden 2001 - 90%
Guitar Freaks 3rd Mix - 90%
Rayman 2 Revolution - 84%
Twisted Metal Black - 88%
NBA Street - 86%
Gran Turismo 3: A-spec - 94%
Madden NFL 2002 - 92%

Resident Evil: Code Verinoca
Devil May Cry 92%
Grand Theft Auto III - 93%
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (10)
SSX Tricky
Metal Gear Sold 2: Sons of Liberty
NFL 2k2
Final Fantasy X
NBA 2k2
Virtua Fighter 4

First 18 months of Gamecube   AAA titles = 8
Star Wars Rouge Squadron
Tony Hawk 3
Eternal Darkness
NFL 2k3
Super Monkey Ball 2
Tony Hawk 4
Metriod Prime
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

First 18 months of Dreamcast  AAA titles = 20
Soul Calibur (10)
NFL 2k
NFL 2k1
Tony Hawk 2
NBA 2k1
Test Drive LeMans
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Tony Hawk
Rayman 2
Quake 3 Arena
Skies of Arcadia
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Dead or Alive
F355 Challenge
NFL Blitz 2001
Jet Grind Radio
Samba de Amigo
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Marvel vs. Capcom

First 18 months of Xbox360   AAA titles = 5
Gears of War
Oblivion
Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter
Rainbow Six Vegas
Perfect Dark Zero

Notice two things about the charts. First, look how far behind Xbox360 is compare to Dreamcast and PS2, yet 360 fans say they have a "bunch" of great games. I think the standards of "bunch" has fallen. Secondly, look at the diversity library of the PS2, Gamecube, and the Dreamcast. Every genre is there on the list. Now, look at 360 list..."bang, bang I shot you down. bang, bang you hit the ground"

shungokustasu

First of all, all those titles are not "AAA" Go and check the scores on gameranking.com for a true average score. Now compare those same games against the PS3 and Wii triple AAA titles. The 360 has lots of diversity. You'd have to be blind or an ignorant fanboy not to notice. Nuff said.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Thats more the fault of the developers than the platform makers. You can't control the ammount of AAA titles you make unless you pump out a ton of first party titles. Microsoft's lead has nothing to do with the ammount of AAA titles. Just look at all the other platforms. AAA titles are in an extreme drougth right now save on PCs. Its merely developers.Vandalvideo

Good point. Does that mean the lack of AAA games on the PS3 is not Sony fault?

The lack of EXCLUSIVE AAA games on the PS3 is sony's fault. The lack of AAA games on the PS3 is NOT son'y fault. I made a big distinction there. Sony has failed to secure the rights to tons of would be exclusive AAA games for the PS3 early on.

So that would hold true for the 360 as well then. This thread is funny. The one thing people are forgetting is that there were a LOT more developers when the PS2, XBox, Dreamcast, Gamecube, etc.. were on the market. The number of game developer we have now has shrunk considerably. Many of them have been bought out by EA, M$, Sony, Ubisoft, Activision, Square, Konami, Nintendo and many other larger companies. The standards for a "AAA" title has increased this generation, so you are not going to see as many "AAA" titles like you saw last gen. Less developers, less games, higher standards = less "AAA" titles. It's as simple as that.

Standards have changed dramatically. It does every generation. Do you like the same things you liked when you were 10? Does your standards for jobs, women, clothing, Etc.. change? Games that are AA now would definately have benn AAA last gen. What do you think dead rising would have scored if it was on ps2? Fight night 3? Saints row, burnout revenge, condemned, Etc..... Right now everything has to be mindblowing to be AAA. That will change next year when more games hit the market.

The only reason you think this gen is bad is because your precious PS3 isn't first. This is beyond pathetic.

ever think that the problem could be the fact that it takes more time and money to develop a good game now than it ever has been? thus having less games = less AAA's?

Different standards today. Most of those AA games would have been AAA games in the past. That is just a fact. It is the been there, done that effect which is why AAA games are on the decline across the board.

Sorry for double post, but, even though developers have been bought out, they still exist, and new ones form, the bought out developers continue to create games for the company which bought them. Also you can't say 'game standards have gone up, so less AAA titles' because while game standards have gone up, game quality has gone up proportionetly.

So, it's just your senseless hatred for anything Microsoft that is upsetting you. Alright, thanks for clearing that up.

Verge_6

wow it took you that long to realise it.:?

i think the 3 consoles out there meet gamers taste in gaming one way or another. last gen what i liked about the xbox was the online play. ps2 didnt have that many online games and they only had few good ones. i have problem with most single player games. i usually play them once and after beating it i never touch it again. there are some single players that has replay value to me, but not as much. if there was no 360 i would of probably gone back being a hermit. ps3 online is a joke but they are slowing improving and its better than what ps2 offered. what i just said other gamers would disagree and would prefer the other console or say single player is better. just all about preference.

also the AAA games you mention from the 1st 18 months from the 3 last gen consoles 85% of them are third parties. I only see one 1st/2nd party game sony offered and thats twisted metal.

He may be trying to covertly bash the 360........but the numbers dont lie....... after 18 months, the 360 has only 5 AAA games, all of which involve killing people........... and even the dreamcast had more diversity (and games) in the same amount of time.

For all of those saying "why arent the wii and ps3 numbers up there". well.....those systems have not been out for 18 months yet soo........yeah...you figure that one out.

The only reason the xb360 is singled out in this is because its the only new gen system that has been out for 18 months. We shall see what happens in 12 more months though with the other guys.

Lems should be glad he didnt post the original Xbox numbers at 18 months.

Yeah, I'm not trying to make them upset at me. Just sheding the light on the truth. Sure, I expect them to make excuses for everything. There always dark areas of any conversation. They pretty much know that Xbox360 will not win this gen. The fact that Jpn, Europe, and US is owned by Nintendo. A year head start gone to waste because like they doing now, not expecting much from Microsoft to do much.

PS: The Nintendo comment will be argue by saying "Your PS3 is doing crappy too" Which is another way of avoiding the truth. My PS3 is $600 and with no AAA games. What Xbox360 excuse for selling crappy?
