Reason for those 4 listed:
Bethesda made two high rated rpgs this time
Bioware made good console Rpgs
Square Enix is obvious
and for Atlus they published GOY and made other rpgs
I picked Square Enix because they do good handhelds and consoles

Bioware made good console Rpgs
ghost392
I hope you realize that Bioware is a PC developer first and a console developer second
Are we talking JRPGs/WRPGs only or MMORPGs as well? Forgot the developer off the top of my head, but the team behind the Persona series is one of if not the best. But my vote goes to Bethesda, Fallout and Oblivion were by far the best RPGs of the past 5 years.
Square-Enix, if their entire developement history is considered, not just since the merger. They knew how to spit out the hits.
Otherwise Atlus is my second choice. I shouldnt even have to explain why.
Morrowind is the all time best game EVER MADE. (lol imo) And some people think they're critics and say ME2 isnt an rpg its just a tps! It has "stripped down" RPG elements.
Do you guys know what ROLE PLAYING GAME means. Play the role. You dont have to have skill trees for that. No im not saying every game where you play a character is an rpg but you KNOW what I mean. I loved Morrowind and really like Oblivion, Me1 and Me2 are insane as well as both Kotor. So overall id have to say Bioware. I also hear Dragon Age is AMAZING.
[QUOTE="Blue-Sky"]really.. there have been duds like jade empire you know Jade Empire was their best game by far... If you want a dud go play their handheld game of Mass Effect the worse game I have played imoBioware for CONSISTENCY
They may not have the best resume, but right now Bioware has been consistently releasing hits for the past decade.

KOTR was 2nd best and only because jade empire had better art dirrection variety and mini games

SquareEnix was a great dev back in the 90's, but they make dog turds now....and FFXIII is a steaming pile.
[QUOTE="IIRS3II_H1TMAN"]Bethesda is the best developer.BattleTurtlesThe best at making bad games, yes. Daggerfall and Morrowind are bad games? You fail.
Haven't played FFXIII, but for me it's still Square-Enix (yes, this is mostly based on nostalgia)
Off-topic: yet i have to congrat from software for their work on Demon's Souls! Great, great game, i'm playing it now, and i can easily see why it was chosen as GOTY here on Gamespot.

Squaresoft is pretty much the best RPG developer to date...but those days are over (Nostalgia'd)
Namco Tales Studio (old name: wolf team) - god dammit I love the Tales of Series
tri-Ace too - Valkyrie profile/Star ocean series were ****ing amazing as well
The fact that bioware is winning saddens me. What happened to the 90's man?
now now, im also not really a fan of bioware games either...and no, they werent all big in the 90's(up to my knowledge, the first baulders gate is the only one from them in the 90's)Squaresoft is pretty much the best RPG developer to date...but those days are over (Nostalgia'd)

It's kind of obvious who's king here.

More doesn't meant better, not to mention a lot of those games were not developed by Square
Frankly i'd take Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Baal over any Square game, and I've always been a fan of Square

It's not their worst. Sonic Chronicles was a dud if I've ever seen oneBlack Isle / (now Obsidian) and Troika games were the best in the business. and to this day they still haven't been topped. Planescape Torment, the fallout games, Arcanum, Vampire the Masquerade: bloodlines, Kotor2, Neverwinter Nights 2 , Icewind dale, Temple of Elemental evil, etc... were all fantastic
The thing is with both Black Isle and Troika they were originally the same company. Black Isle made Fallout 1 and 2 and Planescape tormentabout 1/2 the staff left after a disagreement with interplay to form Troika games... The other half stayed at black isle and helped make baldur's gate 1 and 2 and icewind dale 1 and 2. After interplay went bankrupt they layed off the black isle guys who then went on to form Obsidian along with some members of Troika as they didn't last either (after the PC game crash in 2005 )
Since then Obsidian the new company has made Kotor 2 which was a great game just rushed at the end due to Lucas Arts making the devs release it. They have also made Neverwinter nights 2 a great sequal to biowares nwn1 which had 3 expansions and is the last 3rd edition (and crpg) AD&D game on the market. Now they are working on Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas, both titles will be very Story Driven much more so then Bethesdas fallout 3 as its what this dev is known for.
Personally I can't wait. Black Isle, Troika, Old school (pc centric) Bioware, Old School (non-mmo)Blizzard were the main reasons I never bought a console last gen. There were too many great pc rpgs and then it all crashed in 2005 when the devs started going out of business or being forced to make console games.

I'll admit I never played Secret of Mana, but I played the both chrono games and ever Final Fantasy game up to X-2 and my answer is yes.
ME2 is a stripped down rpg lite - shooter type game made specifically for the console crowd. There was no reason they need to take away skill trees and loot. Sorry I like getting loot and building up my characters. As well as an epic story, wasn't me2 also just a bunch of side stories on how they all get together for part3? Kotor 1 and 2 had loot, so did dragons age, there was no reason to abandon that, and take away the stat based combat. Without that you are playing a shooter with dialog...hence why so many rpg haters loved the game on this forum.

Neverwinter nights 2 wasn't all that great if you ask me, the OC was pretty boring up until chapter III

yeah your right about the oc , but it does pick up the pace. Mask of the betrayer was great!! The thing about NWN2 though, for me at least was all the cool modules people made. There were some that had complete voice acting and did things so out of the norm with custom scrpiting. I loved that aspect of it. So much so that I started making my own. never published though:(ME2 is a stripped down rpg lite - shooter type game made specifically for the console crowd. I don't think i ever made a thread about it. Comment about it sure. I still want to play it, but I am still a little mad about the removal of loot. Which is why I am holding off to buy until its on a steam sale and I can get it cheap. Please Log In to post.
